Before heading to the pharmacy in the Korea Plaza last week, I had some time before it opened to stop into nearby HNS - Hannam Supermarket. A visit to especially catch a look at their fish / seafood area. I had been there before, but such a long while ago, a refresh of memory was in order. Wow, I was impressed. The market definitely appeared to carry a wide and fantastic selection of fresh and frozen, fish and seafood products. My interest was sure peaked by this encounter, to head back soon for a closer look, with some shopping in mind. For me, it will be their frozen products that especially receive my attention when I return. I like to have some on hand, and they certainly have a fine selection to see and choose from. Prices are not the best here. But variety and choices definitely beat a lot of other Korean supermarkets. They even have hot food here. Any Korean sauce that you are looking for or anything Korean, they have a high chance of carrying it. There are many parking spots at the mall. read more

I prefer Han Nam over H mart. I find they have some superior brands compared to H Mart. Jong ga brand kimchi and rice cakes are carried here. Han Nam has also expanded their ban chan and ready made foods. I find during the spring season, they carry an array of plants too (perilla, pepper, cucumber). read more

Reasonable pricing. Lots of offerings if you are into anything Korean. Deli food are fairly fresh if get them early. Also they seem to be discounted after 6 pmish. Don't quote me the exact time. The plus side is the cleanish aisles, and bountiful of variety from fruits to fish. Bit of a downer is most labels/descriptions are in Korean. read more

Han Nam supermarket is located across the road from H-Mart supermarket. My of my friends told me that for groceries she'll go to H-Mart and for seafood she'll go to Han Nam. I can see why. Han Nan's selection for seafood is so much more vast. They carry a lot of varieties of seafood and their prices are lower. Han Nan's groceries selection is limited and smaller than their competitor across the road. read more

I think this place has more Korean instant noodles than I have seen anywhere else (H Mart and T&T). The prices seemed high if they were not on offer. I was also tempted to get the huge tin of sesame oil as it was so much cheaper than getting a small bottle. Then again I will not use it that quickly before it goes bad, so savings are good if you buy in bulk. I bought the tuna kimbap instead. It was nice, much better than H-Mart, but not as good as the Korean place - Kimbap Cheonguk - on North Road (neaby) which is my gold standard for kimbap. I like the ready-cooked food and also the pre-packed ingredients for you to make your stew and dishes. Very convenient. I will be back next time to buy the package for the DIY army stew (budae jjigae). read more

The manager has very poor customer service skills. She is very rude, that is why the cashiers emulate the same behavior.

UPDATE: My my just called today to speak to the manager, the lady that answered said the manager is busy & to call back when the manager is back. My mom asked what time, and the lady said she's not sure. So my mom said, then can you have your manager call her back at her number when the manager gets back, the lady says ... I don't know, manager is busy. My mom explains again, we've been waiting for the manager's call, but no call. Again, she says the manager is busy. Then, my mom gets upset & tells her that the customer service is horrible. The lady says, I don't understand, just call again. ***************************************************************** Unfortunately, I'm giving them 1 star, even though my family & I have been shopping here for quite some time. The 1 star is due to the very, very, very, poor customer service & experience we had about 2 months ago, 12/27/2020. The card terminal was malfunctioning, it said it didn't go through, but when we went home & looked at the bank account, it definitely did, and so we were charged multiple times. We went back the same day to complain about this & to have the money refunded back, but to our dismay, we didn't get the money back. This guy took pictures of the multiple charges on the bank statement, inputted the information on the computer & gave us the complaint "ticket number". And told us, because it's holiday season, the main office is closed, so they'll contact us soon...then he just walks away while we were still standing there, which was quite rude! We had no choice, but to go home & wait for their call. A month passed by, still nothing. So my dad called them to find out what's going on & that he'd report this, they replied..no..please don't & that they wanted an actual statement from the bank, so which my dad complied. And well... It's been almost 2 months now, and still no contact and/or refund for the multiple charges for our purchase. This is the first time we've experienced such horrible customer service, for something that shouldn't have been so complicated. So, my advice to you all, make sure you bring cash just in case the card terminal malfunctions. And to Hannam Supermarket North Road, please please please... improve your customer service. My family love shopping there, but because of the extremely poor customer service you have provided, we are now hesitant to return to that location. I am quite disappointed. read more

Personally unless I was stuck in the plaza lazy to cross the crazy street where all the mean drivers don't let you through, I would not go here. Right off Lougheed located in KTown, it's pretty convenient with a large parking lot. The prices at Han Nam are pretty crazy compared to Asian supermarkets selling the same products. $7 for a pound of Mangosteen?! It's only $3 at any supermarket on Kingsway or Hen Long. The whole store is marked up, but the prices aren't justified as the place isn't very clean, neat, and they don't even have that extensive of a selection like HMart does. They have a meat section, seafood section, and fresh produce - none of which are very good. Service is non-existant here... I've tried to ask for things countless times and NOBODY knows what is going on or where anything is. Some of their staffs don't even speak English!! Such a disappointment. Han Nam used to be my go-to place when the restaurant inside the market was open, they served the best noodles and Korean home-style foods, really miss it. I still go to the bakery now though since they have lots of pastries to pack for snacks. read more

Horrible service in this store!!! Can't believe they treat customer in poor service! On Friday, Aug. 16, 2019 around 9:40PM, I went to the store and I was trying to buy a children's carpet, I need to choose the right brand and the color. A cashier told me to ask for the customer service for the man who was on duty. However the man is not familiar with the color, actually, we can just simply open the tape and we can see, no necessary to take the carpet out, but he doesn't want to help me as it is 20min to 10:00PM, he told me it is going to close and asked me to come next day. I bought one from this store about 4 years ago, I was helped in good service. I am not happy with the service tonight, this is not professional and totally not accepted. Hope they can improve. Han Nam is a supermarket that's right near H Mart in Coquitlam in the little Korea that is found in this area. It always looks dingier, darker and more mazelike than its counterpart H Mart (which my dad likes to call Han Nim, which gives me no end of confusion to figure out which one he goes to). Much like its counterpart, Han Nam has a comprehensive meat department. However, its seafood area is not nearly as well-developed, with no fresh water tanks and I even saw fish somehow just in the freezer without anything on them. OK, I didn't really know yellow croaker didn't get freezer burn but I didn't really know what to say about that... What is of benefit here is that it does have a fairly comprehensive selection of vegetables and noodles as well as a deli section, but somehow nothing really is much better than H Mart, which is also much better laid out. Pricewise, this place is probably a bit cheaper than H Mart but I'm not sure by how much... their manager's specials seem to match prices but on different pieces of beef, pork, etc. It's a pity I already overloaded my freezer with my homemade meals using H Mart products, but I will see what the bo kho and osso buco using Han Nam meats will come out tasting like in comparison next time! There are a few Korean grocery options around North Rd, but I find Han Nam the most convenient to get in and out of. The parking lot does sometimes get fairly busy but for the most part there has always been space available. I'm not Korean so I'm not very familiar with much of the food but the store always seems to be full of energy with shoppers and staff discussing the items for sale! My mother in law likes to come here and seems happy every time we go so good stuff! read more

Don't let the bad lighting at this grocery store scare you off. If you happen to be in the area, the prices for produce and meats are great compared to downtown. I happen to love their meat section because they always seem to have specials like buy two packages and get one free. Even though I cannot read Korean, the manager for meats will usually tell me what promotions are available while I'm perusing the area. Awesome! I'll also stock up on Korean snacks and ingredients, but I love how great their fruit and veggie section is--cheap!!! You can usually sample the fruits since a lady is their slicing and displaying what's on sale. The best time to come here is after a trip out to the burbs for a Korean meal. Then I walk off my lunch/dinner at Han Nam and get my thrifty shopping done. It helps justify the long journey out to Burnaby. read more

This is a mid-sized Korean supermarket across North Rd. from the larger and more modern H-Mart. By the side entrance there is a small food counter that offers a selection of Korean food for a quick bite. In the Winter months you can frequently find a taiyaki vendor out front serving up hot fresh treats - which are the highlight for me. read more

I felt like they got better since the last time I was here. Some of the items on sale were very competitive. They had green onions on sale, 4 bundles for $1, which is probably the cheapest in metro Vancouver. At T&T, they were 1 bundle for 79 cents. Cashier lines were generally short. Their bulgogi samples smelled delicious. The seafood section is very small. I was also surprised by the small selection of kimchee. I guess the majority of their customers would just make it themselves. The kimbap were delicious as well, cheaper than H-mart. I think most people would probably still prefer to shop at H-mart though. It is larger and feels cleaner. read more

The fish here when on sale is very good price. I got family packs of soles and squids here before for less than $10. Many choices of seaweeds. The vegetable here has good sale prices too - 8 bundles of green onions for $1! It is a smaller store than the H-Mart across the street but the selection of food is ok. The promotions attract me to come back to this store again and again. The staff is good. read more

I have been coming here for a while and never thought of writing a review. OK, here we go. Well I am in somewhat agreement with others, that yes it is not a very "fancy" store or even updated. However it has most everything that I need, from a selection of Japanese and Chinese sauces, and condiments. To a great selection of fruits and vegetables, and fish. Not to mention rice cookers and bidet toilet seats; you can't go wrong with the Cuckoo Brand (?). And now they have opened a small deli/food court, bonus. All the more reason to stop in. read more
