I personally prefer Persia Food Grocers than Rose Supermarket. But it is very convenient to those living in the area. Selections are not bad. Because of the store being so small, they only sells popular or common items. Check the expiry date before purchasing.

It's location, in a small plaza, is handy to a variety of shops, restaurants, and services situated along this growing area of Coquitlam 'behind' the Coquitlam Centre. We were in this particular plaza recently to do lunch at one of the restaurants, and during the few minutes waiting for it to open, I had an opportunity for a brief walkabout, and was able to drop into Rose's for a quick peak. Liked what I saw -- they had a wide selection of offerings, and I thought all were nicely-displayed. My visit was short, but while there, I did purchase some fresh, and good-looking eggplants. Before purchasing, I sought some advice from one of the staff -- she was very helpful, and the information received re: varieties, possible cooking methods, and such, was sure appreciated. I enjoyed my first, but much too brief encounter with the Rose Supermarket -- I'll plan to do better when there the next time.

The Good; For me it is convenient; distance wise. 10/10 Price; found most produce items very competitive priced; typically lower than others such as T&T, Save-on, even Superstore. 9/10 Meats ok competitive but lacking in offering. 7/10 Dry goods seem to target a very Asian/Hong Kong audience. It is either great or terrible. 7/10 The Bad; Have been frequenting this "Supermarket" for over 10 years now; I can see a change in quality and business strategy. Overall it is a store in transition. Great strides have been made and could be made. Would say the major flaw is that it has not transitioned to the 21st century in terms healthy alternatives such as organic or calories/nutrition oriented food products. 5/10 The Ugly; Probably one thing I gripe about most is the ambiance. Does not come across as super clean and healthy oriented place. Yes not a easy fix. But a vital fix. They're in a small plaza that also houses a couple other food warehouse spots. We dropped in on a Saturday afternoon (around 1:30pm) and there were several customers inside. There were 6 types of beef jerky (apparently, there's usually more options). The one worker was friendly and explained each of his flavours. He let us try a few samples before using a machine to cut up the jerky into bite sized portions. If you don't visit Port Moody often, you can get AT's biltong at African Breese Specialty Foods (in Kitsilano). Biltong is different from the usual beef jerky; no added salt, low in fat and gluten free. - Hunters biltong beef ($10.00) - thinly sliced and fresh with a softer texture/bite. - Chili bites ($10.00) - if you like a kick, get these. The chili bites were bomb. Chewier but I could have ate the whole bag myself. Quality, fresh jerky! You'll be hooked once you've tried it. If only we made it to Port Moody more often...
