I was in the London Drugs across the street from here and decided to drop by Sungiven Foods on the way home to get myself a SunTea bubble tea drink. You can order either in person with the people working there or use the very convenient kiosk to place your order electronically. I opted for the kiosk and ordered a Strawberry Guava Lime drink with 50% sugar and the pounded lime removed. It had lots of fresh strawberry chunks in it and 50% sweetness was just the right level of sweetness without losing out on flavor. Saw some bottles of pink coconut water on sale for $1.79 each so I bought one of those to bring home and try. I have seen pink coconut water before from another brand called Harmless Harvest. It's usually ridiculously expensive so I don't buy it. Sampled it once or twice at some kind of food event. I think it was Veg Fest. Super yummy but too expensive. So when I saw this other brand of pink coconut water selling for $1.79 at Sungiven Foods, I had to give it a try! While I was there, I also saw that they now sell Onigiri at Sungiven Foods! Was tempted to get one but refrained as I knew there was food in our kitchen back at home that needed to be used up. Will definitely keep the Onigiri in mind for next time though. I saw 3 different flavors: Unagi Cream Cheese, Cooked Salmon, and I think the third one was Chicken Teriyaki. Saw a couple boxes of Tree Organic cheesecake while I was there. Always tempted to bring one home when I see them but, again...food at home that needs to be finished out first. Love the options at this place though. Was kinda wondering whether they might have their own version of a Japanese style egg salad sandwich since 7-Eleven recently came out with it in Canada and it seems to be a trending thing now. But no...no egg salad sandwiches at Sungiven Foods. At least not at this point in time! read more

I love sungiven, so many good produce and snack options. Great frozen items, and bakery items too. The roses are an amazing deal here! Also, everyone who works here is really nice. They keep empty boxes up front for people like me who forget their bags, oops. The bao and steamed soy combo is a fave of mine, and theres a table area to eat in. My first time in here,Im a frequent to this area because theres so many spots that I like in Market Crossing. The place is clean,so much kitchen essentials inside,from meat to seafoods,fresh veggies and fruits. I noticed theres always crew walking around and ready for customer questions. If you are looking for fresh veggies well I gezz this can rival our old known asian market around town,parking is free,accept cash,debit and credit card. Finally, I got to check this Sungiven Food location. I shop quite a bit at Market Crossing but never really make it to Big Ben Crossing. The one time I came to Sungiven, they were closed due to POS system down. I was told that they were closed for weeks and only until recently they reopened. From now till August 31, 2023, they are offering 5% discount on all purchases. I was surprised that on a weekday at around 2 pm, they are not that busy. I picked up some Chinese soup dessert that you can't get elsewhere. For $5, it was not a bad price. This location is bigger than all the other Sungiven and I believe this location is their headoffice/flagship store. They do have some pretty good selection on their hot food. Nice, clean and easy shopping at this location! The store is very big and has a lot of great goodies. The staff were very kind and whoever runs their social media is also superb! I find the produce to be good quality and sometimes you can score big on their clearance section for slightly ripe/ready to use products. It's a good complex too to get multiple shopping checked off as there is a Winners/Homesense near by ;) read more

One of the larger Sungiven locations in town. Much bigger than their pathetically small Hastings location. I think this location is their flagship. Parking is plentiful in the attached strip mall lot. Looks like they're a direct competitor to T&T. I've been told the quality here is higher overall, but the prices also reflect this. Based on what I saw inside, I'd say this place is in the the same tier as Pricesmart, and a bit higher than Foody World and T&T. Interestingly enough, this location has a cold drinks (smoothies, slushes, bubble tea) section, and they also serve 99c organic coffee. I had to try it. Not bad I must say. Good to know that there's a decent supermarket in this part of town. read more

Sungiven is on my list of chain grocery stores to visit when shopping for Asian grocery items. They have expanded progressively since my early visits to their Vancouver City Square and Hastings location when it first opened years ago. Sungiven now have locations in South Surrey, Langley, White Rock, Richmond and this review is on their Big Bend Store by Market Crossing. Just for comparison fun, let's compare Big Bend Store with my original preferred Hastings location. Big Bend location has no parking issues. They have ample parking spaces in a huge parking lot whereas Hastings location is a lot more limited in parking lot size and often must wait for parking spots during busy times. IMO, Hastings location is "prettier and seems brighter"! Hmm, someone can enlighten me re lighting selection. Hastings store seems to have better lighting and would immediately remind me of Trader Joe's whereas the Big Bend store is more dimly lit and the design layout seems less welcoming. I can pick up seafoods at Hastings location via WeChat pre-order and Big bend location is kinda hit or miss, depending on what they have ordered in store and still available at the time of visit. Last week, I bought their last whole Tilapia fish in stock and it cooked well. Hastings location may be smaller but I find their staff very helpful and friendly. They even use to gift their unsold baked goods close to store closing or gift to customers who purchased a certain amount of groceries. I miss the staff at Hastings location who works hard to display a warm neighbourhood store feeling. Big Bend is larger and obviously can be stocked with more items than Hastings. But they offer less of the Trader Joe's vibes so I shop here for practical convenience and not for any warm staff or friendly service. It's easy to park, offers a bigger grab and go section and I have yet to try their advertised organic coffee for 99 cents. Pricing wise, as with any chain grocery stores, not all items are best priced. One may find bargain deals for 99 cents at Sungiven or more pricey import items like Korean muscat grapes. Would be best to know what you want and what's fair price point for your purchases. Sungiven have a pricing advantage when sourcing items from China as they own their manufacturer or supplier there. Thus, I have often found better pricing on select items from their own in-house Sungiven brand and prefer to buy import items at Sungiven. T&T have a higher tendency to be overpriced when buying overseas import items since they don't own any food suppliers and I often get sticker shock at T&T. In general, I prefer Sungiven when shopping for fruits, sweets, snacks, import items and select T&T stores for fresh seafoods. read more

This is my favorite Sungiven outlet now. Located across from Market Crossing, at Big Bend Crossing, parking is readily available. Big parking lot. It took over the old Sportchek store, so it is next to Winners. I came here during the soft opening as well as the official grand opening (that was coincidental). The place is huge, way bigger than the ones in North Burnaby at Gilmore/Hastings and Richmond. There is also a dine in section though it is closed for now though to covid. Besides the usual produce and grocery items, there is a grab and go area, as well as the hot food section. You can get snack like hot soy milk with steamed bun or Chinese donut. Or a proper meal of rice with choice of dishes and it comes with a daily soup. The portion is not super big but it is sufficient to be full. The quality is definitely there. Not too oily and better cut of meat. I can see myself coming here very often for this when I do not want to cook. The selection is better closer to lunch time though. It does look sad in the late afternoon. Hopefully that will change once more people know of it and the food turnover is faster. This is a good addition for those working in the area. Grocery wise, it has many organic produce and items from Asia. It has been likened to Trader Joe's many times. I like the marinated meat especially the bulgogi beef. I also like the variety of fruits here. Like Whole Foods, some items are more expensive and some are cheaper. I saw Nissin instant noodles for $3.49 (pack of 5) which is a good price. Then I saw Australian lychees which are airflown within 72 hours with a price tag of $24.99. Great place to shop. read more

This is one of many China brand "healthy" or "organic" grocery stores aggressively popping up around town. Since Covid, many of us have become home bound and naturally we are learning about groceries/stores. Since one of my Yelp acquaintances keep raving about Sungiven, I had to see for myself. Overall, this store is located in a strip mall off of Marine Drive catering to only auto-bound folks. Not very convenient for anyone else on transit/foot. This store is dimly lit for some reasons and selves are made of cheap laminate wood and whole place is covered with cheap vinyl flooring. Not sure what kind of impression they are trying make? Budget outfit with pricy products? I have a slight concern about their excessive use of "organic and healthy" signage everywhere. For instance under the signage of Organic fruits, many were not stamped as certified or even labelled as organic. Then areas where it says healthy eatery, you can find deadly surgery drinks and instant noodles with msg. This leads me to wonder do they know what is really organic and healthy or just mere catchy branding? Or everything is just a puddle of mud lost in translation. Or worst yet, is instant noodle and coke considered healthy? Lastly they have a hot food and a grab and go section supposedly for those seeking a quick meal but there is no where to sit with our tray of food. The designated seating area is currently used for storage and garbage. All I can say is the first impression is poor. Their rhetoric about healthy lifestyle seems emphatic but the practice is anything but. So this thing called trust. Can I trust them? Jury is still out. read more

Avoid Sungiven at night! Understaffed, no cashiers; you must find someone to check you out. Cashiers here are stingy, won't apply active promotions for loyal customers. Could also be the case if you don't speak mandarin! $5 off $50 promo advertised but denied unless you bring your own coupon.
