Back when it was Chinese New Year and we entered what is now the Year of the Rabbit, I had a sudden itch to find White Rabbit candies. It was late in the day and we didn't have a whole lot of time left before we would need to be home again for a family dinner. That's when I suddenly remembered about King's Market. We hadn't gone shopping there for ages but they have a great selection of Asian foods and are so much closer to our home than T&T Supermarket, which is our usual "go to" for Asian foods. While King's Market may be smaller in name, it's actually a fairly good sized market with several different rooms to shop in. Veggies, fruit, meat, seafood, frozen foods, Asian candies...they are well stocked and well worth checking out for any of your basic needs. I found the White Rabbit candies I was searching for, and also bought a box of Agar Agar powder. Not sure what I'm going to use the Agar Agar powder for, but it's supposed to be a Vegan alternative for gelatin and I've been curious about it for quite some time. Will have to do some research to see how I can make use of it. I'm so happy to have found it at King's Market because even in a regular supermarket, I'm not sure which aisle I might have found it in, or even if I would have found it at all. Service: Good Parking: Free parking at the back of the store Location: On Kingsway between Gilley Ave. and Randolph Ave.

I was a bit curious about this supermarket. I came here to check out the prices and apparently everything was very reasonably priced. Produce are fresh. They have a meat section, a hot food section, produce, dry goods and snack area. It is quite big inside. It does remind me of Sunrise in Chinatown. They make their hot tofu desserts here and they ship it to Crystal Mall to sell as well. I came here and bought a small sweet tofu dessert for $2. It was very tasty. It came with hot ginger syrup. The portion was big for what I paid for. I really enjoyed it. I think I need to come back on weekdays to see what hot food items they have to offer. Their hot food items are made fresh on the day. They offer free parking at the back.

This is a local midsized Asian market in Burnaby close to Metrotown. They have parking in the back of the store. They offer a full selection of produce, meat, and dried goods. However, the items do seem dated and unfresh.

Review Highlights - King's Market

But if I can avoid parking at Crystal Mall or driving to Richmond, a dime or 2 per pound is fine by me!

It is located right next door to Kim's Mart and is accessible via a flight of stairs leading upwards. They carry all sorts of Japanese goods. I picked up a few bottles of pink coloured Sakura cola there, and some prepackaged seasoned kelp which I like using at home to make onigiri. Usually I do it all from scratch using dried up sheets of Dashi Kombu. The prepackaged ones will save me a lot of work the next time I want to make them! We also found many items that were expired or close to their expiration date. There were huge discounts on these items. (eg. boxes of powdered drink mixes) We're fine buying these kinds of products as the "Best Before" dates don't necessarily mean "No Good after..." to us! I appreciate that this store openly admits that these products have expired or are near their expiration date. Gotta love the honesty! Quite heartbroken to learn that this place has been put on the market and may be gone soon. Boo hoo! We only just discovered this hidden gem. If this place does go, hope that we can squeeze in a few more visits before it's gone!

We started trying out the Blackball Taiwanese Dessert drinks from Market Ribbon recently. I've…read morealways been curious about Blackball so it's great that we can try some of their stuff from Market Ribbon without having to go all the way to the actual Blackball shop. Last time I bought some kind of Mango drink with Agar jelly for my daughter. She liked it while I was just OK with it. This time I bought a Passionfruit Lemon Green Tea with Coconut Jelly for my daughter, and a Wintermelon Tea with Grass jelly and Aiyu jelly drink for my husband. My daughter and I both loved the Passionfruit drink. I wouldn't mind buying that one again sometime. Hubby seemed to like the Wintermelon drink a lot. I liked it better than I had like the Mango drink with Agar jelly but still wasn't crazy about it. I really really liked the Passionfruit drink though, so I might buy that one for myself sometime since I only took a couple of sips from that drink and left the rest for my daughter. These drinks would cost a good deal more at the actual Blackball store so getting them premade at Market Ribbon for just $4.99 each is a pretty good deal. If you're not too picky, this is a great place to satisfy a bubble tea craving without breaking the bank!

The inside is definitely bare bones and on the smaller side. However, it was full of customers. They're doing something right. They have Korean snacks and produce. Special mention to their dedicated kimchi and ready to eat food section, which have items like tteokbokki (starch roles in sauce) and kimbap. Oh so tasty. Another thing worth mentioning - they have sashimi grade fish, and as of the time of writing, it is much cheaper than T&T. My only real complaint is that the checkout area is set up rather poorly. I just saw a pile of people by the counters and assumed I was in the lineup. Turns out the lineup actually goes down the aisle that is closest to the wall. Pro tip. This place is definitely on my radar now. Will be back more often to empty my wallet. Recommended.
