Awesome dumpy Asian supermarket at Kingsway and Gilley. The dumpiness is the key to authenticity. Don't let the dirtiness scare you off. Parking is plentiful in the lot in the front (back?) of the building, as well as on the street. The building clearly used to be 3 different businesses, as the layout is really bizarre. There are 3 large "rooms", joined by a corridor. To be honest, this place is probably quite the fire hazard to newcomers. Thank goodness somebody had the sense to stick a large map on the wall. Some doorways between the sections would be nice. With that out of the way, there are 3 sections. Product, meat/aquarium (yes, aquarium), and dried goods. Pricing is in line with other places. The place is quite popular with locals, which tells you everything you need to know. As with other similar businesses, there is a hot food section as well. I picked up some takeout and it was mediocre. Does the job, but nothing special. I imagine this place serves the local market quite well. I've been here a few times. It's a fairly decent place to get Asian products. It's actually alot bigger than it looks, there is 3 sections. They sell fresh meats, frozen foods, lots of produce as well as dried food. They actually have a good selection of alot of things. They also have fresh tofu and tofu products. To be honest some of the meats look a little sketchy. Some of the produce doesn't look the freshest either. But the prices are pretty good and that's a big thing these days. Back when it was Chinese New Year and we entered what is now the Year of the Rabbit, I had a sudden itch to find White Rabbit candies. It was late in the day and we didn't have a whole lot of time left before we would need to be home again for a family dinner. That's when I suddenly remembered about King's Market. We hadn't gone shopping there for ages but they have a great selection of Asian foods and are so much closer to our home than T&T Supermarket, which is our usual "go to" for Asian foods. While King's Market may be smaller in name, it's actually a fairly good sized market with several different rooms to shop in. Veggies, fruit, meat, seafood, frozen foods, Asian candies...they are well stocked and well worth checking out for any of your basic needs. I found the White Rabbit candies I was searching for, and also bought a box of Agar Agar powder. Not sure what I'm going to use the Agar Agar powder for, but it's supposed to be a Vegan alternative for gelatin and I've been curious about it for quite some time. Will have to do some research to see how I can make use of it. I'm so happy to have found it at King's Market because even in a regular supermarket, I'm not sure which aisle I might have found it in, or even if I would have found it at all. I was a bit curious about this supermarket. I came here to check out the prices and apparently everything was very reasonably priced. Produce are fresh. They have a meat section, a hot food section, produce, dry goods and snack area. It is quite big inside. It does remind me of Sunrise in Chinatown. They make their hot tofu desserts here and they ship it to Crystal Mall to sell as well. I came here and bought a small sweet tofu dessert for $2. It was very tasty. It came with hot ginger syrup. The portion was big for what I paid for. I really enjoyed it. I think I need to come back on weekdays to see what hot food items they have to offer. Their hot food items are made fresh on the day. Interesting set up. The market (supermarket?) has 4 sections: produce with tofu items; meat, poultry and seafood; and finally the snacks and hot foods, connected by a dry goods hallway. The produce appears to be lesser quality, but somewhat cheaper. I like the fact that the tofu section is stocked with items from Healthy Soyfoods company. They also (used to sell bulk, now prepackaged) dry goods, such as beans and peas. The meat, seafood and poultry have most of basic needs available. Didn't try hot foods so I can't comment on that. The only deduction is the speed of payment. There were 3 cashiers but the line was quite slow. They do accept credit cards (at least there's contactless payment option!) read more

King's continues to be a favoured Asian Market shopping stop for us after Saturday morning dim sums at a restaurant on Kingsway. It's on the way home, provides ample, free parking out back, and offers up a quick & easy opportunity to drop in and browse availabilities. And when we like what we see, catch certain meats, poultry, produce, and packaged goods that are not always that easily accessible elsewhere, or if so, they're often at poorer qualities, and significantly-higher prices. Some of our favoured look-for items there: fresh meats & poultry - chicken drumsticks, pork hocks & feet, ground pork and beef, and at certain times, frozen turkey drumsticks -- produce/fruit - Chinese and other Asian greens, onions (cooking & green), tomatoes, bell peppers, yams/sweet potatoes, grapes, melons, and such -- packaged goods - especially rice vermicelli and 'glass' noodles (Chinese, Thai), bean curd sticks, some bottled sauces, and the like. The market still consists of the three different areas - you walk to the entrances of each via a covered walkway (which itself, is also loaded with offerings of fresh and packaged goods). For us, service throughout the market has always been friendly (including check-out!!), and helpful. Of particular note, I must single out the fellas in the meat section - they do a great job accommodating personal wishes when cutting up, and/or otherwise preparing one's meat selections. On a side note: imho, they offer 'the' best fresh pork hocks and feet to be found anywhere!! It's on our way home from restaurant dining, other shopping activities on Kingsway, and we're sure glad its there!! read more

One of the most disgusting markets I have been to. Everything seems so dingy and dirty. The meat department smells really really bad. Chicken wings were on sale but they were bloodied and dry, like stale dry. It was gross. If you gave these to me for free I still wouldn't take them. GROSS!!!!! I bought 2 packages of "pork neck" bones for my dogs. Upon opening them they were definitely not "pork necks" they were cut up pork face. Yes that's right I said it FACE!!!!! You know why I could tell it was FACE. There were jaw bones that had TEETH ! That's right friggin TEETH. I have never ever seen anything like this in my life, it was absolutely disgusting!!! There were face parts that had dark Grey slim oozing out of it!!! I'm literally going to throw up, I'm so extremely disturbed by this. It pisses me off how these people deceive and scam their customers. It's sad to say but it is typical of them. I'm Chinese (CBC)myself and it's disappointing to see such dishonest business practices from these Chinese immigrants. They give a bad name to all of us. Sickens me!!!! read more

This is my favorite market considering that it's near from my place. I get my produce, dry good, fresh meat and fish too. They have bbque store/hot food too. Parking is not a problem. The have space on the back or side street ( if the parking lot is full). This would have been a more positive experience if I had paid more attention to fellow yelp reviews. Instead, after finding some well priced grocery items, it was very confusing to locate the cashiers. Even the sales people gave us the wrong directions after approaching a couple of clerks. Maybe it was the language barrier. After circling the three stores several times (I thought I was in some kind of nightmare), I finally found the cashiers near the exit in the middle store. Is it too much to ask for some clear signage? Would probably return because of the good prices and since I now know where the cashiers are located. Cashiers were indifferent and checked out. This place is a total hole in the wall from the outside and unassuming, however, it is one of the best kept secrets in Vancouver for cheap and good Chinese food. I guess technically it is not a secret anymore but locals know that this is the place to get some really good take out comfort food. I normally get the 3 item combo for less than $10 and there is always left over for lunch the following day. I come here for very reasonable and cheap produce for my smoothies for the week. Love this place in the summer for fresh fruits and veggies - my mom and I hypothesize that the either must have their own farm or have a very special deal with one since they can offer fresh Japanese cucumbers and red/orange/yellow peppers at prices way lower than other stores. I am very much looking toward the summer as in 2017 they had these simply awesome mini yellow watermelons that we devoured at a pace of 1-2 a day! (hmmm, writing that out, doesn't seem like we ate that much). They also have specials on snacks from time to time that are cheaper than T and T or Pricemart, and their meat is quite fresh, though, can be a dime or 2 per lb more expensive than the meat shops in Crystal Mall or Foody World. But if I can avoid parking at Crystal Mall or driving to Richmond, a dime or 2 per pound is fine by me! Also, since they make their own tofu, lots of tofu products available, and at great prices. Especially awesome is the fresh tofu pudding where for $1 or $1.50, you can get a huge bowl that can serve at least 3-4 people. Of course, fresh tofu pudding goes bad super fast and if you don't finish it within a day or so... I've never had that happen. read more

If you enjoy rotten produce, then definitely shop here! Even when using vegetables on the same day as purchased, I haven't been impressed with the quality. The stink of fish as you're waiting to pay is atrocious, and add to that the lineups to pay are always way too long - with unfriendly check-out staff. I tried the hot food once, but it was so loaded with MSG that I seriously regretted that choice an hour or so later. 5 out of 5 Patooies for this place!
