Prices can be slighter higher than T&T. Not all items but most. Also freshness is a concern for me. It is a small Chinese Supermarket and sometimes, I wonder how quick are the turnover for produce, fish and meat. Every time we show up, we are usually trying to scramble to buy $10 worth of cans goods or sauces to get the free newspaper. The place is never crazy busy. I have seen some good deals here. We don't make a special trip here.

It's been around for at least a decade by now and every time I visit the area, I am thrilled to see it is still thriving! With so many other large chain markets, H-Mart, T&T, 99 Ranch, I am always cheering for the little guy. This is definitely one that I am rooting for! They have a sizable produce section, probably the biggest draw to this area. Being that I'm from out of town, I tend to focus on packaged items that I can take home. I love the concentration of Hong Kong products, from milk tea to ramen to package snacks and candies. During the most recent trip, I bought a liter bottle of milk tea, boxes of HK style powder milk tea, HK style (brand) ramen, noodles, crackers, and bottles of cold brew tea. These HK brands are either less common or more expensive than elsewhere. The HK ramen were $3.50 for a 5 pack, regular price, while T&T were selling the same, on sale, but you have to buy two packs to get the same regular price as this supermarket! What?!? Anyway, I'm a fan.

This is a foodie's paradise, but the only reason for the 4 stars is price of sashimi and meats. But…read morein terms of snacks and drinks, the prices are very reasonable for the variety that comes in and can't find anywhere else in town. My favourites being Yuzu Meltykiss, sugared Yuzu peels and specialty Calbee. The Kitkat selection is small from my experience (1-3 varieties) and T&T still remains the leader for me in that category. You'd be wrong to think that nearby Izumiya is identical, as Darumaya sells things more suited to an individual instead of family sized. Products are also more unique and different, with the store's small footprint making it like a maze with lots to discover. It's a great place to go if you're looking for unique snacks to mail to friends elsewhere or to share locally. Chips go for around $2.99-$3.99 a bag though. I also appreciate the thoughtfulness of the small drinks fridge beside the checkout, paired with the non-refrigerated drinks on another shelf. My foodie friend and I remark at the price of the frozen, vacuum sealed wagyu and fresh sashimi every time we go. We're not chefs, but they are both out of our price range, most likely attributed to import charges for a small establishment. However, if you can afford quality, I'm sure it'll be there. The sashimi is very fresh and prepared in house though, but having lived here so long, there are other places to get quality sashimi for less.

What impressed us most however is their sashimi selection , so unbelievably fresh ( for a non-restaurant ) ! Also their wagyu ( A3 - A5 available ) , ohhh-sooo-heavenly ! !

For what it is, as the supermarket of Union Square, and now since the area around here has grown,…read moreit does it's job. It's got everything you really need to deem it a good supermarket, fresh produce, a butcher, fresh seafood, all your pantry items, and the occasional seasonal specials (ie. mooncakes, imported special fruit etc.) For the size of this one, it's actually quite nice to walk around in, not cramped to the illegal borderline fire-hazard isle widths, well lit, and everything is where it should be. I like this market more than your big box supermarket (here's looking at you T&T) as you still have choice and selection as to the other products a Chinese person would buy (ie. dried noodles, weird condiments, etc.) and usually when you come here it is not a battle to find parking... well unless you are fighting with the dinner crowd going to the restaurants nearby in this part of the plaza. If you are looking for some exotic produce, sometimes they get the Korean grapes, or direct from Japan mountain yam. They have your frozen hot pot meat selection, they have some pretty good fish options. It's an option I will occasionally go to when in Richmond, and worth checking out if you are in the area.

It turned out that they had the wrong price tag on the shelf. So the manager led us to another cashier lane to adjust the price. Instead of saying "Do you still want the item," she said, "You don't want the item?" It seemed like she did not want us to take the item so she could just process the refund for us without adjusting the price. We told her we did not want the item. However, she charged us one more time for the item instead of processing the refund. Also, she could not process the refund on the same card that we just used to make the purchase (she made us try a few times on the credit card machine). She wasted our time with her incompetence and her defunct credit card machine. So she gave us back the refund in cash. We waited for a long time for this transaction to complete due to their mistakes. They did not apologize for the wrong price tag on the shelf and for charging us more. There was no standard of service.

after checking out winners and wandering around lansdowne centre, i was pleasantly surprised to see…read morethat t&t supermarket was open. for some reason i had confused the closure with another richmond location that had permanently shut down, so it was a nice little surprise while walking through the mall. when i stepped inside, several staff were busy unboxing and stocking shelves. carts full of products were waiting to be put out and boxes were stacked along the aisles, giving the sense that the store was getting ready for the evening rush. even with the activity, everything felt organized and easy to navigate. this location is one of the largest t&t stores in canada and it occupies the former target space at lansdowne centre, which makes the layout feel especially open and spacious. the wide aisles stretch across what used to be the big box floor, and the selection is massive. you can find just about everything here, from fresh produce and live seafood to meats, frozen foods, sauces, and pantry staples. the snack aisles alone are worth exploring if you enjoy browsing asian treats and drinks. there are also dedicated counters for deli items and meats, along with a large prepared foods section offering chinese bbq, dim sum, sushi, and hot meals ready to go. it is definitely the kind of place where you might come in for groceries but end up leaving with dinner. unexpectedly, there are even shelves with kbeauty products mixed in with the grocery sections, which adds to the feeling that you never quite know what you might discover while wandering the aisles. after my initial shock to find this t&t is open for business, i remembered i was running dangerously low on coffee. after spotting my favourite instant vietnamese coffee, i ended up grabbing as many boxes as i could carry in my arms. visiting t&t always feels like a different kind of grocery shopping experience. i especially enjoy coming around chinese new year when the store fills with festive decorations and displays, and it becomes the perfect place to pick up things like hello kitty red envelopes. their mooncake displays during the mid autumn festival are also impressive, with rows of beautifully packaged gift boxes ranging from traditional styles to snowy skin and mochi like varieties. overall, this is a great place to explore if you enjoy asian groceries, snacks, and specialty items. with its huge selection and spacious layout, it is easy to lose track of time while browsing, and it is definitely a spot i will keep coming back to whenever i am in the area.
