I came here for a scheduled state inspection and was genuinely impressed from start to finish. The…read morefront desk employee, Tim, was extremely courteous, kind, and patient in explaining everything. He walked me through the inspection process in detail and let me know that they look beyond just the bare minimum of the state inspection to make sure the car is in good overall shape. My car ended up passing without any issues, but I still left feeling very informed about its condition. Tim took the time to explain what they checked and why. The atmosphere was welcoming and I felt like they actually cared about me as a customer. The state inspection was also done right away, as scheduled, which was a huge plus. No long wait, no runaround. I am genuinely happy to give them more of my business in the future. If I need tires or any kind of repair work, this is where I am coming back. I honestly think I have found my new go to car shop. A hidden gem in Ashland for sure.

Towed to a tire place about an hour south of here (we were headed to NC) where BOTH FRONT TIRES HAD EXPOSED STEEL BELTS ON THE INSIDE EDGES. That clearly did not occur in the intervening week since we were at Ferber's. It is OBVIOUS they didn't even look at the front tires, or they would have seen the exposed steel. We were EXTREMELY FORTUNATE to have gotten off the road safely today. If one or both fronts had blown at speed, it could have caused a deadly accident. NEGLIGENT ON FERBER'S PART. Take your business elsewhere( one star) Edit: After a phone call from the business, and upon seeing this review, the company has tried to right their wrong. Services were again rendered, to our satisfaction. More importantly, the service staff has been re-educated about checking all the shoes on the cars they are asked to service. So that huge hole that they told me about turned out to only be the size of a bolt. They also did not do my alignment correctly causing my tires to spin and almost make me to wreck because they did not reset the sensors on my tires. Every time I have picked my car up from having repairs done at Cawthorne something new would be wrong and of course they would claim it was like that already even though it was not. When I called to confront them about these things they got confrontational with me immediately And then the owner's daughter Proceeded to repeatedly call my phone. I'm assuming this was to harass me for calling her father out on his poor quality of mechanic work. I would never recommend this shop after All of the bad experiences I've had with them. What they're doing to people is borderline criminal and I'm surprised they haven't been sued yet. They definitely praying on those who they feel don't know any better. After posting this experience on my facebook I was not surprised to find that many of my friends have had problems with Cawthorne auto and tire as well. Edit: I'm not from San Francisco California I'm from Ashland Virginia so I'm not sure why its saying that. I'm literally posting this from my apartment in Ashland VA lol.

I believe they took advantage of my situation due to having to have the car towed there. They charged me $923 to fix two lines of my brakes. They did not replace them. Just cut it in four places and put unions. They charged me over $700 alone in labor for this. They then threw on a "shop supply" fee of $70 at the end. I had to call them and get it off. To quote someone then add another $70 to that quote for a "shop supply" fee is unethical. I've taken my car to several dealerships and mechanics and have never had this happen. If you want fast service this is the place. Just be prepared to put down a decent amount of money for fast and easy work.
