@Torrance Farmer's Market The Beef Onigiri is wrapped around a beautiful stencil decorated nori. Right away the aroma of the toasted sesame hits your olfactory senses and it just feels like it's going to be good. :-) You want to be able to get a good bite, with some of the nori, along with the rice and the beef filling. The combination is great. The only thing I wish is that it was bigger because I just want more of it. It's an easy snack and delicious to have when you're on the go and don't have any utensils. If you've never had this type of food before & you happen to be at this Farmer's Market, give them a try. read more

Every time I go to the Mar Vista or Torrance Farmers Market, I get a wakame/shiso brown rice onigiri. They are delicious! The food is made to order so you have to wait a bit. Your patience is rewarded with fresh tasting, flavorful food. The nori stays crisp because the onigiri aren't pre-assembled. read more

Good but pricey musubis. Located among the food vendors at the Torrance Farmer's Market, they were popular enough to have run out of their eggs for their spam musubi before lunchtime. I tried several of their rice balls and spam musubi. The spam musubi was good, but let's face it, it's tough to really mess it up when most of the work is done by the slice of spam from a can. The spicy tuna wasn't what I expected; the filling looked like a tuna patty and wasn't spicy, making me wonder if they simply gave me the wrong order. The tuna mayo was also good, though with a $1 upcharge. The pricing is a bit irksome. They're $5/onigiri and $8 for two spam musubis, far above the usual prices for the premade stuff at the Japanese supermarkets and pricier than those at Hawaiian BBQ/poke places and even specialty shops like the now-closed Jichan's Onigiri in Monterey Park. Rice Man uses organic rice which tends to carry a premium, but whether that's worth it is up to you. read more

Service was extremely friendly and I would most likely rate it even higher on my next visit, but the first time I had it was at the Mar Vista Farmer's Market this past Sunday and I went with the salmon rice sanwich. It looks great and everything tasted great...EXCEPT THE SALMON. It was wayyyyy too salty. Everything on the menu looked great and prices were good for what we were ordering, but sadly the supremely salty salmon was too much for us to handle. I would have returned to give them a headsup to go easy on the salt but there was a long line and hopefully it was just my one salmon and not a whole batch for future customers who were about to also have a salty sunday. read more

The farmer's market in Torrance is my favorite place in the South Bay. I love the shopping, and I love the eating. My Asian food craving hit right around Rice Man, and the flower-stamped Spam Musubi hit the spot. I'm glad they use organic rice, but the texture is very mushy. Same with the Juicy Beef Don. The juice makes the rice soggy, and the thinly-shaved beef on top is soft and savory, but the onions are overcooked to a pulp and bland. The farmer's market is retail therapy in its finest form, and edible shopping is my favorite guilty pleasure. Judging by everyone else's rave reviews, I hope I just caught them on an off day. read more

Whenever we go to the farmers market at the Wilson park, we stop by and get the salmon onigiri (rice balls) and Spam musubi. Also we have had there poke bowls. Everything is fresh and delicious! They use organic rice and you can totally taste the difference!!! The family is super nice and always a pleasure seeing them! read more

I'm only reviewing the spam sushi, but it is really good. They cooked down the snap to get that canned taste out of it and crisped it up on the outside a little bit. We got two pieces which were laced with beautifully stamped seaweed. The rice was falling apart so it was hard to eat but it was so delicious. read more

Horrible! How can they mess up something as simple as spam musubi?? I bought some spam musubi for my son's preschool picnic, but ended up going back home to make my own (good thing I wasn't planning on picking it up then going directly to the picnic!). What makes spam go well with rice is that the saltiness of the spam works in harmony with the blandness of rice. Here, they combine the salty spam with salty rice (their rice is seasoned with something salty, to me it tasted like it could've been MSG). Additionally, unlike most places, the spam isn't sandwiched between the rice. It's just rice on one side and spam on the other held together by a small piece of seaweed. So there's no saltiness/blandness balance. Sure, season the rice if you wish, but go easy! And put the rice on either side of the spam so that it's sandwiched in between the rice for balance. It was like eating pure salt. I might as well have poured salt down my throat! And what's with the tiny piece of seaweed? It defeats one of the purposes of eating spam musubi, which is that it's easy to eat without making too much mess. You can typically eat it with just one hand. The spam musubi from Rice Man, however, makes a big mess because the tiny piece of seaweed doesn't hold everything together. If you want your blood pressure going up, get spam musubi from Rice Man and make sure you have a plate handy because it'll get messy! read more

fresh and organic omusubi/onigiri at the Torrance Farmer's Market When you don't want to make your own onigiri or don't want the supermarket rice balls then on Tuesdays and Saturdays you have an option for warm omusubi made to order with organic white or brown rice. The Rice man's ulterior motive is to get you to buy their Organic Koda Farms rice which is grown in California, which is by the way where all of the white rice comes from in every Japanese Restaurant in the US, so what better way to open an omusubi/onigiri stand at the Torrance Farmer's Market. Besides rice balls they have Oyako-don, Sushi Rolls, yaki-soba, chicken teriyaki bowls, and omu-rice. I am pretty sure the most popular items will be the sushi rolls, but I will stick to the ume-onigiri. We ordered a salmon onigiri with brown rice and an ume onigiri with white rice. Since they are hand made the filling in distributed in every bite and not just in a little ball in the middle. The nori is toasted but you should eat them immediately or the nori gets soggy. The rice was perfectly cooked since they have three fuzzy logic rice cookers making perfectly sticky and chewy rice. They can also add furikake by request which is another item they are pedaling for $4 a jar which contains no GMOs or MSG. read more

Coming from Hawaii where fresh poke is easily found and Oh So ono! So good! Da bomb I'm always looking for some here in Cali. And I've found a few places that would satisfy me. So I came across the rice man tent at the Torrance farmers market. The poke don had caught my eye. I order a spicy poke don and was pleasantly surprised that it was served with some yummy greens over rice and topped with a nice amount of spicy poke which had a mix of salmon and ahi tuna, avocado and onions. Poke sauce was okay not really my fav but fish and ingredients were definitely nice and fresh, nicely made. My kids love musubis and I'm sure I can make some at home but we ordered some anyways... 2 musubis per order you can have it regular or with cheese or eggs. We had it regular with just spam. Nice size and I was surprised by the fancy cutout design on the nori seaweed. Almost to pretty to eat but luckily we were hungry lol. My 8 year old ate 2 and was begging for more but his younger brother was not willing to share. Very nice owners and I definitely would come back for more when I'm craving for Japanese rice bowls, musubi's and poke don. They have quite a few options to choose from on their menu. read more

Really like this food stand. One of the few market stands that's actually good, maybe because they make everything fresh to order, it seems. The drawback is that it takes a while to get your order! However, the food is fairly healthy and tasty! So far I've had the rice sandwich, the vegan sushi roll, vegan fried rice, and yakisoba. All we're good, maybe just a tiny bit too salty here and there but overall quite good. read more

Oh man this stuff is so good! My family and I come here almost every Saturday. Just about everything I've had is delicious. Also the family is very sweet. They make everything to order and they do it with care. We love the gyudon, yakisoba, spicy poke, and the spam musubi. But everything is good. And their rice is amazing. It might be a little under cooked for some people but I personally love it like that. I just wish they had a restaurant that I could go to more often. Easily for me the best stand in the farmers market and there are lots of good alternatives. In the very least if you like spam musubi you have to try their egg spam musubi. So good! First time having their food and their salmon fried rice made me happy since I'm usually sad. The owner cooked it in front of me, not just giving me some pre-made. As organic rice farmers, their rice is amazing. Like the shape and how it feels when you take a bite. Like little pillows in my mouth. I'm gonna eat slowly and savor every bite.
