I have seen Dr. Phillips on several occasions regarding mole removals and general skin check ups and she is truly incredible. She has excellent and extremely professional medical advice and knowledge and was able to perfectly execute my treatment the first time I saw her. Dermatology can sometimes be scary, especially when treating sensitive facial areas, but she was tremendously warm, inviting, and an absolute joy to talk to you that it didn't even occur to me that I was undergoing a skin removal procedure. She is organized and responsive to any concern or question I have. Overall, Dr. Phillips truly cares for her patients and the well being - she will no doubt brighten your day whilst providing top medical consultation. I more than highly recommend. read more

Got into something last weekend while camping. Developed a rash on both legs so severe that my skin was bleeding from all of the scratching. Everyone was booked up when I called for an appointment including doctor phillips. I walked over to her clinic before lunch only to ask for a recommendation of an over-the-counter cream to use in the meantime while I waited to get into the office that same week. Her nurse brought me back to a back room immediately after hearing my story and 5 minutes later dragged the doctor in with her prescription pad. They examined my legs and dr phillips starting applying a cream on my legs in the office and wrapped them for 30 minutes. I was discharged a few minutes later already 50% relieved. She gave me two prescriptions and said with confidence as she walked out "no need to follow up next week; you'll be all clear by then." She is so wonderful and so kind. Even though she was extremely busy she stopped in her tracks to help me once she heard how miserable I was. I knew she was a compassionate and smart physician from our previous encounter but now I'm connived that she's truly a good person all around. Thank you dr rhea phillips. Also I used the CVS next door to her office because the walgreens in her building was closed, and their service was equally stellar. read more

I made an appointment to see Rhea Phillips because of her relatively good reviews on this site. My experience with her, however, was pretty awful. I showed up about 10 minutes early, but she was 30 minutes late. When I finally met with her, she very quickly addressed one issue I had mentioned in passing to her assistant. This was my first meeting with her and she made absolutely no effort to get to know me. Within 5 minutes, she was ready to excuse me. Then I mentioned to her that that was not the reason I had made the appointment. I was there to get an annual check-up because I'm fair skinned and spend a lot of time in the sun. She said I'd have to make another appointment for that. The reason for my visit, however, was written on the paper right in front of her! She didn't even care to review my paperwork! I also mentioned that I had a few other quick questions. She said that she would allow--ALLOW--one question. I could't believe she had the audacity to say that. After that, she tried to get me to make another appointment, but I refused. I'm not going back. I was treated like a number. I highly recommend avoiding her. read more

Dr. Philips careless misdiagnosis cost me and my husband 6 months of hell, and $3000. We were dealing with a mystery bug issue in our apartment, and we were told by exterminators to see a dermatologist to rule out scabies. Dr. Philips barely examined the rash outbreaks I had on my hands and feet, no body examination or inquiry. Instead I got a lecture on why my laundry detergent was evil and full of toxic ingredients and that it was causing eczema (grrrr...). She spent about 80% of the time talking about the free samples she was going to give me, and how it will be just "amazing". Why go to Walgreens to buy Cetaphil when I can spend $40 in copay to get a .5ml tube of it with Dr. Philips. Six months later of hell, 3 exterminators later (all of whom thought we were mental), I see another dermatologist who listened, examined my body, did a skin scraping and provided us with real medical information based on what we were telling her. Everything has been great ever since, and no, we did not change our detergent. Go to Dr. Philips if you want to complain about laugh lines, leave the serious stuff to real medical professionals. read more

My experience with Dr. Phillips was truly wonderful. From my first call (where a next day appointment was booked), to the bright and spa-like atmosphere of the office, to the helpful and friendly staff members, to Dr. Phillips herself and her effectiveness. I came in for several issues, and she handled each one efficiently and kindly. I was in and out of the office quickly (but never rushed), given all kinds of helpful advice and information, and set up with a manageable treatment plan. A few months later, I am doing phenomenally well. Thank you to Dr. Phillips and her wonderful office! read more

I saw Dr. Phillips several times over a year and a half period and was always underwhelmed with the quality of care as well as her bedside manner. I only returned to her several times because I needed refills on my prescription and she was easy to get an appointment with. On several occasions Dr. Phillips was more than 30 minutes late, and she always seemed to be in a hurry to move onto her next patient. Often times I would wait to be taken into a room for over 30 minutes and then once in the room I would wait an additional 20 + minutes to see Dr. Phillips and she'd spend less than 5 minutes with me. During my first appointment she wrote me a prescription and when I had a question she handed me a piece of paper (a general FAQs list) and said that the handout could answer my questions and she promptly left the room. One time I had 2 different skin issues that I wanted to address and Dr. Phillips told me that she only had time to talk to me about one of them and that I needed to choose which one was the most important (she suggested I book another appointment for my other question). I was highly frustrated by this response and found it troubling that she did not seem to have the time to at least take a quick look at the one spot that I had a question about. On another occasion I asked Dr. Phillips for an annual skin check and she spent only a few quick minutes glancing at my skin and was less than thorough. I would not recommend Dr. Phillips as she always seemed to be in a rush and did not provide me the thorough care that I wanted. read more

I've seen Dr. Phillips three times now, and I've had a great experience with her every time. It's easy to get an appt with her office, it's a convenient location, and I've never had to wait more then 15 minutes to see her (which is pretty impressive these days as far as doctors visits go). In regards to my most recent visit--I went off of birth control a few months ago, and unfortunately my face started severely breaking out as a side effect. It was bumming me out, so I went to see Dr. Phillips about it last week. She listened to my issues, contemplated different treatments, and ended up writing me a $10 prescription for a topical lotion and gave me a sample bar of soap to try (that fortunately you can buy at any CVS/Walgreens). After using the soap in conjunction with the topical treatment, it was literally like a night/day difference with my skin, in just a matter of a few days! I find Dr. Phillips to be very personable, efficient, and knowledgeable. It sounds like some other people have had different experiences with her, but I would definitely recommend her to anybody looking for a good dermatologist in the Nob Hill area! read more

Still going to her and getting great care. I am a physician so I think a discerning customer ! (And, as melanoma runs in my family she is the. 4th dermatologist I have tried and the only one I have stuck with!) read more

I was referred to Dr. Phillips by my roommate after a conversation over wine discussing the fountain of youth and how to stay forever young looking. Typical girl talk. I was taken in for my appointment within minutes of getting to her office. Her assistant explained everything I should expect from my appointment and asked me if I had any initial concerns and what I was looking to get out of the appointment. I explained that I felt that it was time for some preventative maintenance but that I wasn't ready for any botox or other injectables. Dr. Phillips was there within 5 minutes of being set up in the room. She's very energetic and engaging, I felt like she listened to everything I was saying and understood exactly what I was looking for. She knows what she's doing and is straight to the point - I appreciate that. She noticed that I had a derm issue that caused a bit of redness around my mouth which I had always noticed it but didn't think much of it. She told me that she'd be able to get rid of it in three months if I wanted a prescription (and that I would be able to drink on the pills - thanks for the heads up!). She also prescribed a nightly cream and her assistant told me that she would order me the cream from a particular vendor because it would be significantly less than getting it filled at Walgreens. Thanks for saving me money!!! Overall the experience was great and I really liked Dr. Phillips. The derm condition cleaned up in three months and, as Dr. Phillips promised, my skin looks great! read more

I don't understand why some of the reviews for Dr. Phillips are so poor. I had an appointment with her and was seen right away and given excellent care and treatment plans. The lady who works at the front Carly is also really good at communicating between the patient and the doctor. The appointments aren't too hard to get either which is really nice. I was hesitant to see Dr. Phillips after first reading the reviews but I'm glad I decided to see her. read more

I made this appointment because the doc was covered by my new insurance and the office is walking distance from my home. Then I read the negative yelp reviews and almost cancelled. Ignore them, folks...I had a fine experience!! The doctor looked at all four areas I was concerned about, answered each question, called in a reasonably priced prescription and I have no complaints whatsoever. Do not hesitate to visit this doctor.... read more

Very nice welcoming office with relaxing music. I didn't wait long as the staff greeted me as soon as I walked in. I was immediately taken into the back and seen. The doctor was so nice and personable. She explained what was going on and set up a treatment plan. She was attentive to my needs as a patient and explained the prescription and how to use it. I will defiantly be going back for my follow ups and yearly. She genuinely cares about patient needs. She and the other office staff helped to answer all my questions. read more

I don't know what's going on with all these 1-star reviews. I made the appointment because she takes my insurance and the office is conveniently located. I was totally expecting to be boo-ed out of the place based on the reviews here.... but the experience was A-OK! She actually looked closely at my body, more than I can say for other dermatologists I've seen. Yes, the appointment was quick but I didn't come up with a laundry list of problems so I had no expectation that the appointment should take very long in the first place. The office was clean. I didn't have to wait more than 5 minutes to be called in. I didn't have to wait long in the room before the doctor saw me. There wasn't a two-month wait to be seen as a new patient in the first place. She eased my worries regarding a weird mole and told me what to watch for and when to be checked again. I don't normally write reviews for doctors but I felt like I should in this case because the 1-star reviews on here are so off-putting, and they don't at all reflect the experience I had here. read more

This was one of my favorite doctor visits if all time. First I was referred to this doctor by another doctor in the same building who is my internist. (I will review him later he is also great) I literally had to go up one floor on the elevator and voila. I entered the waiting area which was full of patients so I knew that they would not be able to see me soon. Whenever I stressed to the front desk lady that I needed to get in soon for a wedding was coming up soon she had me sit down and wait while she called the nurse to explain my situation. 15 minutes later the doctor came out with a big grin ear to ear and reassured me that she could see me today if I could wait a few minutes later. I waited patiently for 15 min and I finally saw the doctor. It was definitely worth the wait she looked at my skin and instantly knew what to do and what I needed. She was very confident and reassuring. I couldn't be happier with the outcome. I definitely recommend her and I will be back. read more

Scheduled an appointment via zocdoc for an annual checkup and a concern about an itchy patch of skin. I was seen on time, Dr. Phillips performed a very thorough and thoughtful exam, in a very professional and collaborative manner. We discussed treatment options (for the itchy skin) and we agreed to defer. The office staff was very helpful and informative. Overall a great experience. read more

Dr. Phillips is amazing! So thorough and patient with me and all my issues. She actually listens. There are plenty of dermatologists in Marin, but she's definitely worth a trip to the city! Her office staff is very pleasant as well, I highly recommend Dr Phillips to everyone! read more

I came to Dr. Phillips looking to go on accutane after a bad experience with a really rude and uncaring dermatologist and she was great! Super nice and actually listened to what I had to say. The rest of her staff when I was there were all women (awesome!) and they were all very friendly and helpful and kind. I can't remember the last time I had a this pleasant of an experience at the doctors office. V glad I chose Dr. Phillips for my accutane journey. read more

Best dermatologist I've ever gone to and the most friendly, helpful and considerate staff. I am always seen right away and she provides me every single option and then we collaborate on the best course of treatment. She's also very available and is always willing to help but unlike every other docs Ive been to she provides me with enough treatment to last a while because she understands the costs and how difficult it is to miss work. She will call in things and go out of her way to make sure you are covered without making any unnecessary payments. Highly recommend seeing her. read more

My son had a bothersome, itchy and spreading skin rash since March of last year (almost 11 months!) and despite multiple visits, his regular doctor's efforts were not helping. My son was a good sport about it but even he began to despair. We even tried Chinese medicine but nothing worked. Dr. Phillips carefully listened to what triggered the rash and after a lengthy and thorough exam gave us the good news that the rash should be easily curable, and relatively quickly. She then typed up lengthy, personalized instructions explaining how to use the (inexpensive) medicines she prescribed and other procedures to follow. The long and short of it is that within a few days, the itching had subsided and by the time the medicine had run it's course 2 weeks later, he was cured. We are VERY grateful to her and cannot recommend her enough! I liked all her staff and Dr. Phillips manner is just what you want in a physician: obviously listening and caring. And most important of all, she knows her stuff! read more
