I recently had Rafael work on my backyard and I wanted to provide my feedback on his work. Due to Covid, I wanted to have minimal contact as possible. From the day I messaged Rafael for a quote, he came to my house the same day to look everything over. I only had a rough idea of what I wanted but after he came over he provided a sketch of what his idea was for the backyard later the same day. His first rough estimate (rough because he did not take any measurements the first time coming over) was slightly higher than my budget; but after I told him what my budget was he told me what he could do with the design to make it work. He also told me he would let me know if anything would change after he took measurements. He came out the next day and took measurements and he worked to make sure all materials would fit the budget and he made it happen. This is the list of the work completed: level out the backyard due to low spots and distribution of excessive soil that I had; remove all the weeds; add mulch planter area with weed barrier; add concrete stepping stones with gravel with weed barrier; add new irrigation system and a control unit; add new sod. Every time he came to the house he would text me photos of the work he completed for the day. He was always available to answer questions. I personally like things in text format so I can look back at a conversation to make sure if I missed anything. Everything was paid for in (3) payments and I was able to pay via venmo which is super convenient for me. Good pricing Punctual Honest I wasn't sure how I wanted to landscape my backyard but Rafael guided me through the process. He told me what fence materials were good to use and which to avoid. They provided different options that would work with the budget I had in mind. They installed new grass, vinyl fence, patio, and a drain line that brought water from my backyard to the front curb. This is Rafael we are talking about right? If it is then let me start by saying that some of the people he hires drink alcohol on the job. Tell me , do you think someone under the influence can provide excellent work at your house? Noooooo. Do not hire this person. Poor craftsmanship, does not pay attention to detail and lacks experience . Do not, I repeat do not pay anything upfront for work that is not done to this individual. I paid him upfront for the second payment because he said he would do some other work for free if I did. He never did the work and never completed it. He wants money upfront to pay his other bills he has to pay. Do not pay him more than 10% of the contract for starting work. Don't fall for it, be strong and firm. He left my backyard pipes for irrigation leaking . After many times of asking him to fix it he never came and left it leaking . He also left all the trash from the demo in front of my yard. This guy is shady and will trick you into paying him upfront . He says ,"if you pay me upfront I'll do the other thing for free". Don't fall for it . He ended up blocking me from Instagram , changing it and then blocking me on my phone. He sounds like he goes to church by the way he talks but it's a front , I don't see how a Godly man treats other people like this. I even think he deleted his account on Yelp. read more

Amongst all the estimates, proposals, we found Rafael very professional. He communicates quickly. Very polite and conservative. His fee is fair and he doesn't seem to upsell you. In early 2020 I sued RGA Landscape for the cost of rework needed to fix the issues caused by their horrendous work on my front yard (please see original post). This past December I won the case. If I could give this individual a 0 or a negative rating, I wouldn't hesitate. This is a really long story, but for people who are looking for a landscaper, DO NOT, I REPEAT, DO NOT GO WITH THIS GUY!!! He is not reliable, responsive, or timely in anyway possible. We got a reasonable quote from him back in July and work immediately started the next day, for the first week or so, work was being done and my husband and I were very excited, however, once payment was given, we would have to message him to see when he would be coming. They wouldn't come until 1-2 in the afternoon and then leave again at 3-4 pm. Work was getting done VERY slowly. July passed then August came and passed and still nothing was done. September came and we had multiple dates where he said his work would be done, but that never happened. Then he indicated they got in a severe accident where his employee died. We were apologetic and very understanding and let him take his time. One day I can across his Instagram account for this company and saw multiple posts about other jobs being completed and his team completing them! Our job that was put on hold for 2 months still had only been touched. We still waited giving him the benefit of the doubt, but nothing. He blocked my husband from seeing his account, but didn't realize i had my own account as well and could see the pictures he was posting. He wouldn't respond on time, as normal, would not return our calls for days on end. We asked him to just return our money for whatever the pending work was worth and even though SOO much wasn't done, he did not return the money. We pushed for at least 2,000 but that was not given. He said he would but we've been texting and calling everyday but no response. He gave back 1,000 and has not responded regarding the remaining amount. We had another landscaper come and finish the job and he told me that there was so much damage and incorrect techniques used. The sprinklers were incorrectly placed and installed, the tree that was uprooted from the ground still have left over roots mount through the soil and so much more. Rafael worked with me on the projects throughout, and I was so thankful that I could always count on him to follow through and make sure the job was done properly. My sprinkler valve went bad and I couldn't stop the water. It was early in the morning around 7am-ish, I made several calls and Rafael was the only one picked up the phone. I explained to him my situation and he gladly agreed to come over to take a look. He was able to assessed the problem and informed me my options. Given the fact I wanted it to be done as soon as possible and I can't find anyone else, he could have gave me a high quote, but instead his quote is very realistic and affordable. I really appreciate his work as he not only replaced the malfunctioned valve but he also went above and beyond to repair a leaking water pipe that was connected to the valve with no extra charge. I contacted Rafael for a quote after two other gardeners/landscaping companies failed to follow through on their communications. In contrast, Rafael showed up on time for the price quote and gave me a very reasonable estimate on the spot to install a new zone for drip irrigation, create a new flower bed, and move/install two new sprinkler heads. When it came time for the work to be done, Rafael and his crew showed up on time and worked hard to complete the job in one day. My husband and I thought they did a fantastic job. In summary, I can't recommend RG Landscaping because of the owner's (Rafael) lack of professionalism. At first, it was fine when we first met, on a Sunday (Aug. 2), to discuss front lawn sprinkler repairs and estimate for installation of sprinkler in back yard at my mom's home. But since Rafael didn't have the parts for repairs, it was agreed to meet again on following Sunday (Aug. 9). On Sat. (Aug. 8), I emailed Rafael asking whether the necessary parts were obtained or not, No response. On Sunday, I also called Rafael's business phone # but I couldn't leave voicemail message since it was full. However, around 3:15 pm Sunday, Rafael just emailed that "I can't make it, I forgot it was my wife's birthday" (that same day). No apologies or notifying me earlier. Strike one! But my mom convinced me to try one more time, so I emailed Rafael (on Aug. 19) to re-schedule for Sun., Aug. 23, and he responded "ok." Again, no show that Sunday but this time he emailed, around 8:30 pm that same day, saying "Ok, tomorrow I'm going to send someone." On following morning, I responded with "don't bother" since we never agreed earlier to be at my mom's home that Monday (Aug. 24). His response: "Yea, I don't work Sundays" What? This is contrary to his business hours which include 7am-7pm Sundays as listed on Yelp! Strike two! Well, based upon my recent poor experience with RGL, I can't honestly recommend them to anyone. read more

I had my hill (a lot of square feet) in my backyard cleaned. It was overgrown to about a feet, some were turning completely dry. Rafael and his associate came and cleaned it up in about two hours and took the trash with them in a very reasonable price. Moreover, they even picked up leaves that were sitting there without extra charge (my gardener is on vacation and he wasn't able to come this month) I really appreciated their hard work. The price I was quoted was what I payed them. Also, my mom wanted some holes to be covered up (squirrels dug those holes) Rafael did that without charging us. read more

I needed a 15ft level circle in my backyard for 14 ft above ground swimming pool for my kids. I wanted to give my kids some this do this summer while so many places are closed. The job was done and my pool was up by the weekend. We had an issue the the leveling but Rafael was quick to address our concerns and correct the problem. The initial response was great, the product was unfortunately anything but great. Shortly after the grass was installed, our grass begun to turn yellow. Within two months, 60% of the grass was dead (and we watered sufficiently). We reached out the RG Landscape regarding this issue however,there was no help. We then contacted 4 different landscaping companies to help sort this issue out. All four other companies once they visited our house and looked at the damage, confirmed that the dirt that was placed down by RG Landscape for the SOD, is what killed the gras. In other words, they started our SOD with poor dirt, setting us up for failure and waste of money from the very beginning. read more

I had called several places and decided on RG Landscape after reading the good reviews he had and also after meeting him to discuss the project which involves my front and back yard. The entire project was broken down into two parts : 1. Clearing front and back and prep for the landscaping 2. Actual planting, mulch with stones and putting in a drip system. Phase I took about 3 weeks as the workers do not come every day and even when they do, they only work for a couple of hours. The front yard took a bit longer than it should as Rafael's team came only on certain days and usually work at most half a day. Again, his team did not always show up when he said they will. In fact, after promising many times that they will come the next day, no one showed up. I had to call/text repeatedly and keep chasing. When I wanted to discuss a matter, Rafael would also promise to come by the next day but then do not show up. Reasons given range from it being his birthday or his anniversary, or something with no apologies. I did tell him that I can wait but expect that he does what he says he will do. I am willing to be patient and go with his schedule as long as he gets the job done well. The bigger problem starts with the backyard in phase 2. There was a wait of almost 3 weeks before any real work started. The workers will come by but they will simply drop off things and nothing is done. After much chasing, they finally started work. To access my backyard, they have to go through the front yard. And in carrying the plants, stones and mulch to the back, they did some damage to the front, making a small mess. After the initial foundational work, things stopped for another almost 2 weeks until I demanded Rafael to commit when he will start again. Rafael is on time only when he is asking for money. After he gets paid, things stopped again. It took over a month to "complete" the back. But it never really was done properly. Rafael told me one day that I need to pay him as he will finish the backyard that day. I told him I will pay him and will trust he does it properly. When I return, it was still incomplete. A large part of the backyard still were missing mulch, which took another 3 weeks before he had someone come and pad the yard. The second batch of mulch was somehow of poorer quality. It had a different color and so the backyard looks patchy. It also had something else in there which causes more than a dozen small white powder mounds to appear in the areas where this second batch of mulch was placed. Rafael also failed to clean up the backyard as it had leaves all over. He claimed it was done previously and these are new leaves. Even if this is the case, he should have scheduled the cleaning after all the work has been completed. The backyard also was suppose to have stone slabs placed to create a path. When I asked about this, Rafael said that he ran out of money and so not able to provide. This was agreed up front when i asked him to quote and while I understand there is a budget issue, the responsibility lies with him for not managing it properly. I have checked the drip system and it does not seem to work in some places causing several plants to dry up. After over a month of chasing, he finally did something. However, some of the plants have died due to lack of water and Rafael's standard answer is that it is not his fault if I don't water the plants. I don't really understand this logic since he is the one that installed the drip system and also set the timer. In the whole process, his team failed to put in the drip pipes in some area, failed to connect it to pipes and multiple connectors were not even joined properly. This resulted in my water bills jumping almost 4 times. Many problems remain today and I will need to find someone else to come redo everything. Some of the crew he used is a problem. The first two that failed to do a proper job on the front yard was initially fired and were told that I complained about them. Then he hired them back and sent them back to do work on my yard. One guy came over and non stop rang my door bell. When I came out, he immediately accuse me of intentionally breaking things. When i showed him where he forgot to connect the drip pipes to the main water outlet, he said that is not his problem. It is possible that his worker did not like that fact I had complained and when they came back, they deliberately did not do a proper job. Rafael is a nice young man. However, his professionalism is lacking. He promises many things has not once do it without the need to repeatedly chase him. Reading through the various reviews, I feel hiring Rafael is a hit or miss. Unfortunately, I was in the miss part. If you still hire Rafael, put everything in writing (in detail) and ensure there is a final payment withheld for at least 1 month AFTER the finish of work. Update: Rafael, please explain how it is possible to not water when you are the one that set the sprinkler system timer. read more

Rafael was fantastic. His quote and price was by far the most reasonable. We had a massive project involving brush removal, leveling, sprinkler installation and sod installation. He and his associate were very professional and incredibly hard workers and completely transformed our backyard. He was very responsive and kept me up to date on all the progress and developments.
