Yes, we can spot the iconic Reyn Spooner reverse print cotton shirts worn by downtown workers, including my hubby before he retired. What's so special about these shirts? Reyn Spooner is a fashion design company founded in 1956 by Reyn McCullough and Ruth Spooner, whose names make up the company name. Reyn resided on Catalina Island, CA and met Don Graham of the Dillingham Corp, the developer of the Ala Moana Shopping Center in 1956. He moved to Honolulu in 1959 and opened a retail store in that shopping center. In 1962, Reyn teamed up with Ruth Spooner to create Reyn Spooner in Honolulu and currently has 7 retail stores in HI and also sells apparel in department stores in the US and abroad. Design work is done in HI and sewn in Asia. Reyn felt the traditional aloha shirt had a too bold print and improved it by combining the reverse or inside-out print with his own eye for more sophisticated prints and paired them with a classic tailoring of an oxford cloth shirt. It was called "Spooner Kloth," which was a blend of cotton and spun polyester that's amazingly durable, wrinkle free, and breathable. This iconic shirt became the Aloha shirt that is worn around the world. While working, my hubby's favorite shirts were Reyn Spooner reverse print cotton shirts. He thought they were nice designs, were well made, as they were meticulously sewn and lasted a number of years before you could notice it fading in certain areas. Seams were perfectly double-sewn in straight lines. An extra button was sewn on the underside to allow for lost buttons. As these shirts were pricey, my hubby would show up at their periodic warehouse sales, as their shirts were heavily discounted due to discontinuance of styles. It didn't matter to him, as a Reyn Spooner shirt never goes out of style. And so what if you got last year's Christmas shirt, as even if the year is subtly printed on the fabric, no one will notice. And he specifically looked for shades of blue and black to match with his slacks. So, can't complain about the high prices of these shirts, as they match the quality for what you get. Yes, looking dashing and huge savings when purchased at these warehouse sales! Things have changed over the years. A Reyn Spooner discount store has been set up at the Waikele Premium Outlets. Warehouse sales are no longer held, as this discount store is used to further discount their items, oftentimes at 25% lower than the discounted price, at certain times of the year. Staff notes that prices are similar to those of the former warehouse sales. The discount store is huge and spacious! There are racks of clothing for all family members that Reyn's are known for: terminated prints, local and national sports teams, Christmas prints, pandas, Snoopy, University of HI, and many more. There was clothing for the kids, women, men; straw and fabric hats; plush teddy bears; slacks; t-shirts; collared shirts; swim shorts; hydro flasks; and others. This is a far cry than the small, cramped warehouse sales from years before. The Waikele store is located next to Famous Footwear and on the right side of the Information Center. Hours of operation are Mon to Thurs 10a to 7p, Fri/Sat 10a to 8p, Sun 11a to 6p. Check the hours during the periodic sales, as they open an hour earlier; however, the parking spaces are blocked until regular starting hours to prevent Waikele store employees from parking in them. The Reyn Spooner store at Waikele Outlets is a godsend, as you can get immediate discounts right away. And if you wait for those periodic sales, you'll get further discounts! So glad that my hubby retired, as he no longer needs these shirts, other than for the occasional ones he needs for attending a funeral or celebration. Good things will come to those who wait! Reyn Spooner has become the only brand of clothes I buy. I started with just a few and has ballooned over the years (especially with its recent collaborations). I'll admit, the shirts are a bit pricey if you buy them directly from the store. You'll never see them on sale at their stores (used to have the Spring cleaning sale in the newspaper!) anymore. You'll only find them discounted at Macy's or Nordstrom (and Rack) when they're on sale or in the clearance section, and it's only a few selected prints too. I was excited when Reyn Spooner introduced it's Pop-Up Sales last year at the Waikele Premium Outlet, and after a couple of sales, it's now a mainstay as Reyn Spooner Outlet! Awesome! This store in the main, central area of the mall, next to Famous Footwear and American Eagle. The store is clean, spacious, and jam-packed with Reyn Spooner items for everyone. Everything is very well organized and easy to browse with each section clearly marked. Keep in mind that this is the outlet store, so you will only find prior prints. None of the newer ones here. I also have not seen any NFL prints, only MLB and college prints. I've been here several times already since it opened. The pricing varies from $96 to $60--depending on the print. Obviously, the newer ones are higher priced. That was a little different from the Pop-up sale where all the shirts were $72 and lower. As I'm shopping, it's painful to know that if I waited, I could've saved this amount and that amount. But now I know I can wait for most shirts to save some money that can go into other shirts! This year, I decided to wait for the Year of the Snake shirt, and it was there at the outlet store! Perfect! There was one occasion where they were selling the first black "A Galaxy Far, Far Away" Star Wars print! They must've discovered some hidden stock (or ones that didn't make the quality control as they didn't look quite right)! Luckily, I got one already because they were selling for almost $200! You just gotta predict what will be popular and limited, which are usually the collaborations. Overall, excited to have a Reyn Spooner outlet store! Always packed with clothes with a few surprises here and there. Staff here are friendly and helpful. Only negative might be the 1 single dressing room. Other than that, I'll gladly wait a few months and save some $$! read more

Shopping in Waikele, O'ahu, Hawaii... My friend sent me an advertisement for a Big Sale at REYN Spooner OUTLET. I told her that I don't know anyone who wears that expensive brand. She said it's really good quality... and I should get a shirt for my engineer brother-in-law. I thought: yeah... he's a hard-worker and good father to my nieces and patient husband to my sister. LOL... Plus, his birthday is tomorrow... good timing! Alright... I'll take a look... Located at Waikele Premium Outlets, between AX (Armani Exchange) and Famous Footwear, the shop had open doors at 9am before the other stores. The parking lot was roped off, so customers had to park on the side of the outlet. The guy at the door was named Dusty. He was very friendly and pointed out the different styles and even helped me dig through the bucket hats for certain sports teams! The guy at the dressing room was named Isaiah. He helped hold up shirts for me and gave his opinion on the different designs. Thank you! The cashiers were very patient. They said that yesterday was a mad house! Most of the Christmas shirts were sold out! I was lucky to get a shirt that my sister approved of (I texted her some photos). The system was made more efficient with a guy who took hangers off of the Aloha Shirts and folded them nicely with price tags showing. If you get a chance to go to the Sale... GO! Reyn Spooner pop-up sale??? Shooooooooots! Bruddah Fran is 1st in line Bro! This years Reyn Spooner pop up ended up at the Waikele Premium Outlets, which is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay closer for me, than last years pop up sale in Kapolei (I live in town). As soon as I got da email from Reyn Spooner, I went down on the 1st day of the pop up sale. I didn't really need a shirt, as I have more than my share of Spooners in my closet. I was mainly here to pick up a shirt for my childhood friend, who has been living in Seattle for over 35+ years. As I strolled through the racks of shirts, I came across a University of Hawaii design Reyn Spooner shirt. As a proud alumni, one must have a UH Reyn Spooner in your wardrobe, as we must represent! I already have this UH design in my closet, so I picked up this UH shirt for my friend. While looking around further, I came across a "Las Vegas design" shirt. Being Las Vegas is da "9th island", how can this Hawaii boy not have this shirt??? Like a sucker, I ended up buying this shirt for myself. Lol! I always look forward to these Reyn Spooner pop up sale, as the shirts are deeply discounted. Service here is always on-point, and truthfully, ya can't go wrong with wearing a Spooner! read more

The customer service (or complete lack there of) is for the 1 star. Been in here more than several times and have never heard a "hello" or "may I help you?" Quite odd, since the brand sells itself, but definitely lost a local customer after being completely ignored. And no, it wasn't ever busy. read more

You really forget what sincere customer is like anymore. It's really sad, right? I have had wonderful experiences in three different RS stores; Ala Moana, Kapolei mall (or whatever that's called), and most recently at the Waikele outlet store. Everyone I've dealt with from Andrew & Jan, to the manager (apologize for not getting her name) have a friendly, forthright, and honest. Another reason to support this awesome brand! read more

Shame on Reyn Spooner for customer service. My husband and I went to this store to look for shirts for him and my son. You would think that Being local would mean something. We were not even acknowledged at all. We spent some time looking around and we observed two workers that were catering to the Japanese and Haole couples. Why would we buy local when locals are not even paid attention too. I also found prices ridiculous for an outlet store. I would never go back and would not recommend this business.!! read more
