This was our first time visiting this store. We googled it and were impressed with what they had to offer. Tia greeted us with her warm smile and angelic voice. She made us feel welcome and gave us time to browse around before asking any questions. Unbelievably, the outfit I found was exactly what I was looking for. The outfit came in three happy colors and I ended up with the coral. Our daughter also found a dress albeit she was only there to support me. The prices were competitive to what you'd pay at other Polynesian stores. The store is not a large one but there's a lot of items to select from (dresses, rompers, shorts, casual & elegant tops, pants, etc). Missing Polynesia has a unique design to all of her clothing line that represents her culture of Western Samoa, intertwined with a mix of different ethnicity of the Polynesian lineage. Her gift is explicit to what she offers and how each of her designs are created. There is alot of history behind her clothing. The material she chooses is also very comfy where it flows on your body, where you dont have to keep sucking in your stomach for a particular photo opt, you can actually go eat your favorite food and you still look fabulous! hahaha...jus sayin! I love how its either size 1 or 2: there is a size for everyone from extra small to XXXL and she also has keiki size! We love taking our family photo in her clothing design and mixing up the color because it looks more vibrant (same color - everyone looks the same and so boring) and it just captures the essence of the photo especially when we are back home against the Koolau mountains. As you walk into the store you are ALWAYS greeted with a huge smile, some hugs, and every single staff member makes you feel welcomed "Aloha Spirit." They are also their if you need assistance. Because I was there to shop for my entire ohana and I didnt want any of my kids coming with me (more stress when they are around me), I told them what I needed and what it is for and boom, within 5/10 minutes I had everything that I needed and not knowing if they will look good, if itll fit - I just had to go based on their recommendations. As you can see the photos came out beautiful and the kids were all happy...Plus, people go crazy in having that perfect outfit for their family photos & they forget the true essence of why they are taking a family photo... Now, its more about how you look versus making it enjoyable for memories to be created as an ohana. I see so many ppl stressing out because something doesnt match and forget the entire reason! I am SO obsessed with this store!!! So I've shopped here a few times and I've always found the cutest things. The staff is always very helpful and friendly. Well these past few days I came into Missing Polynesia on a mission to find matching outfits for my family for my Grandma's Funeral. On the first day we were helped by a girl named Harmony! She was the Sweetest person ever!! She took her time helping us, and I swear I tried the whole store on until I could find something! She checked the back for extra sizes and did everything to help us find what we were looking for! We ended up with pink and black aloha shirt for my husband and son and two pink matching dresses for my daughter and I. Well we get home and don't get me wrong my husband liked it but he said it would be too bright for a funeral (even if pink was my grandmas color) lol. On to the next day! I get to Missing Polynesia and a lady named Anna I believe was helping us, and harmony ended up helping us again too! So we had double the help this time! We ended up going with black and green for my husband and I to match, and then green and dark brown for my kids to match! It was perfect! I couldn't have done any of it without their help! It pains me to write this review. Not even sure how many stars to assign. Over the years, I've shopped at the Waimalu store maybe six, maybe ten times? This is the third Christmas I went looking for gifts for 'aiga and uo on the Mainland. They love the unique designs, as do I. However, the materials, a lot of stretchy blends, can be too hot for this climate, but not for folks in Cali, Seattle, Alabama, etc. So I returned for Christmas 2018 gifts, but not sure I'll be back. On arriving, I was greeted by a friendly gentleman of Poynesian ancestry. I've seen him there before. He asked if I needed help, no thanks, just browsing. No problem. I'm of Polynesian ancestry, but don't look it. So perhaps I was mistaken for a clueless tourist or palagi. In the past, one of the owners always recognizes me and we chat about folks we know in common, family history, show each other family pix, all that cultivating of repeat customers I've complained about as a new customer! But this time, she wasn't there. While wandering around the store, an email from a health care provider came in and I needed to reply right then. It was a weekday and only one or two other customers were in the store when I got there, so standing in the middle of the shop, typing my reply wasn't really bothering commerce or anyone. While tapping away on my phone, a young woman clerk I've never seen before, asks me if I needed help. Seriously, dear? Can't you see I'm in the middle of something? And I've already been asked. Since when is interrupting helpful? Gathered up my prospective purchases and gave them to the clerk I preferred, the gentleman. But this teine came over and inserted herself in the sales transaction and started peppering me with what I consider inane questions that I felt were none of her business. If it was an attempt to cultivate me as a customer, she could not pick up on the signals that I was not interested in her chatter. But the worst part was her asking for my ID when I went to pay by credit card. You interrupted me, you asked me nosy questions and now you want me to prove to you who I am? I've never been asked before in this store, because I would not have returned. Someone suspects me of fraud, I don't wanna give them my money. How did she insert herself into this transaction in the first place? I was dealing with the tamaloa expressly to avoid her since she's so rude. So I decided to save myself $200 and leave the merchandise behind. The irony is, I have ordered stuff on their website, got it fairly quickly, AND NO ONE ASKED FOR MY ID! Whenever I'm asked for an ID in a retail store, UNLESS I SEE EVERYONE ELSE ASKED FOR AN ID, it's probably profiling and I refuse to be profiled. And I rarely return. I was raised fa'aAmelika, however, having studied culture and language, and confirmed it with la'u uo, I know that fa'aSamoa revolves around respect. Lack of the proper respect can start a war. It explains my 'afakasi grandfather's rage at racial slurs directed at him in the U.S. Navy, my father's anger, and mine, at being dissed. At the very least, as a tupuna, I should have been treated better by that clerk. And lastly, noticed that they've begun pricing by size. The larger size 3 now costs more than sizes 0, 1, or 2. I avoid stores that do that. I used to sew and size 3 may be an inch or two wider than size 2, even less with the stretchy garments, but not that much more material or thread, and certainly not much more labor. If the materials and labor made that much difference, where's the discount for size 0? It's fat shaming, discrimination, akin to price gouging, and something we should not do to each other. If your wholesalers are charging you more, then ask them to stop, or justify how and why their costs for only one size have increased, and/or spread the cost among all the sizes. Soifua. read more

I just visited Missing Polynesia. The ladies are always so nice to me and help me find exactly what I need. Even though they have a limited selection I have now found two amazing dresses from them in the last two months. I didn't get the girl's name that was helping me but she was slim and short and very very helpful! I recently went in specifically looking for a green dress and she picked out a few styles and even went to the back and got me a couple dresses that weren't out. I tried on probably about seven dresses and finally found a beautiful green dress that wasn't too short for the event I'll be attending. One thing I've seen Missing Polynesia reviewed poorly for is that the items fade quickly. At check out the ladies emphasize that items are cold water hand wash so they do inform you that there are specific care/wash instructions for them. It's on the receipt. I haven't washed my dresses yet but will definitely be very careful because the dresses are absolutely beautiful and honestly a little pricey. The fabric looks great on me and I love the prints they have. This is a great place to find unique dresses. I don't see too many people wearing their items and I LOVE that. I would be quite embarrassed if I went to a function and seen someone with the same dress in just paid $70+ for. read more

I've been eyeing this shop since they opened but hadn't gotten the chance to go in till this week. So glad I did because I got a super cute dress that looks great on me and a pair of earrings to go with. I would never have tried on the dress had Tori not suggested it. It looked way too long for me and frankly I wasn't sure how to wear it since the style looked unusual on the hanger. I tried it on and was like wow this is awesome! It accentuates the positive and hides the ... well you know what I mean... I can wear it a bunch of different ways too. These are all original designs including the fabric printing. My dress has the Wailuku pattern which is reminiscent of rushing water in blue and teal. MP offers beautiful, unique, top of the line Polynesian designs that you can't find anywhere else! I guarantee you won't be caught out w/ an identical top as another lady. Once they sell out of a particular style, they usually don't restock. So get it before it sells out. Also, the fabric is oh so comfy (high quality) although size 1 in certain styles can run big (for those who are size S/M like myself.) However, I find it super hard to shop here for just one item. You'll literally end up leaving w/ a whole new wardrobe!! Also, MP staff is very helpful, friendly and kind. Quick to assist and answer any questions you may have. I must say I love the prints and clothing style, so I went there to buy the Nika cardigan the most cutest print ever, (lol) all excited thinking okay if it's $50 I'll get it, but that was pushing it but hey what can I say I like unique things and this was it. Anyways walked in went straight looking for it and boom I found it! All excited again! First thing I did was feel the material and was like okay nothing fancy this shouldn't be more than $50. then look for the color I wanted and size never have so then I went look for the price and "oh H no" I was like okay let's go. We went in looking for a specific color and Ana and her team were able to accommodate us all and found the perfect styles and sizes (about 8 of us went in, but we needed 13 matching outfits altogether). The staff here were all so attentive and patient with us! Excellent customer service!!! The outfits that we purchased were absolutely stunning and so comfortable! The fabrics are gorgeous, everything is top quality, the store is clean and organized, and you won't find their products in every store like a lot of places in Hawaii. The clothes here are beautiful but ruined by the horrible sales rep my mom and I had. So the sales rep kept pushing on for my mom and I to buy these tight fitting clothes for us to try on. And after telling her more than 5 TIMES that we did not want tight clothes because first of all my mom doesn't like tight clothes and we were going to a WEDDING.Even after I thought she got it that we don't want tight, skimpy dresses she kept pushing to sell those dresses to us. Also, when we told her that the clothes were too tight and/or too skimpy she told us we could just wear pants with them. I told her we are going to a wedding and we are suppose to wear dresses. Again, DIDN'T LISTEN AT ALL and told us just to wear pants with the skimpy dresses if we didn't like it This lady didn't listen at all.I told her we didn't want green dresses since the bridesmaids are wearing green. She said that she'll bring green dresses and I had stopped her and firmly tell her for the 4TH TIME that we didn't want to try on green dresses and the reason behind it. The prices are moderate not inexpensive but the quality of clothing, the styles, the colors are super cute. You will understand when you see the store for yourself. I love the location of the store! Lots of parking and never crowded :) I often come here when I am looking for a clothing pair for my fiancé and I. Their clothing are very pretty. The clothing can be a bit pricing, but that's what you pay for when you get authentic clothing from the pacific islands, right? lol. I have about 5 outfits from here with a matching pair for my fiancé, and we love all of them. They have very cute styles from more of the modern looking outfits to traditional Polynesian wear. The hours of operation is good since they're open all week from 10am - 6pm. Their staff is very friendly and helpful. & what's even better is that their store is very clean and beautiful. Came here to buy matching dresses for my sisters graduation party. At first it was hard to find since they are located towards the back of the shopping complex. On the left corner across from fabric Mart. I was very surprised by the atmosphere of the store it had a very nice and bright feeling to it I loved it! The staff was very nice and helpful in finding my size. I liked that they have 4 spacious fitting rooms to try on your dresses. And tucked away in the corner there is also a bathroom to use, which was great since a lot of other places was no public restroom. The only thing I kind of didn't like was the price, it seemed a bit expensive to me. The print my mother picked out I guess was new so I'm assuming that's why it was $65.00. Missing Polynesia has some intriguing prints in women clothing. It caught my attention from across the parking lot. I just had to check it out. I agree with everyone else about their women clothing being made of soft material. I didn't look at the labels but it felt like rayon. The men clothing, however, felt kind of crusted. They have a very small selection for men. Their jewelry selection is pretty. It felt like I was at Swap Meet. The pricing is sore to my eyes. The clothing is expensive ($60 for one particular top.) Their products must be worth it though if people keep going back. I'm someone who's always on the look out for deals. You definitely don't see much women wearing Polynesian prints. I had a bad experience here. From the moment I walked in to the moment I walked out, the employees made no interaction with me at all. No one welcomed me, asked me how I am, asked me if I'm finding everything ok or if I need any help. They didn't even tell me thank you for stopping by, have a nice day. I basically walked around the store without any help while they talked amongst each other. They did not acknowledge my presence. How do they expect me to buy anything? It's sad to say I think they judged me by my appearance. I was dressed very causal today so maybe they thought I didn't have money. Regardless of how a customer looks, we deserve to be helped. I needed to buy a new dress for an event and a coworker suggested Missing Polynesia in Aiea. I had never heard of them so she sent me the link to their Facebook photos and I really liked the prints and styles! I also realized I had seen some friends and coworkers in some of the outfits and had never known where it was from. Facebook didn't have the prices so I of course had to see for myself and went during my lunch break. The place wasn't too hard to find. It's behind Cutter Ford Aiea in the last building on the left (it's blue). If you see a parking attendant then you're in the right direction. Parking is free for the first hour and $1.50 each additional 1/2 hour I believe. Turn left past the attendant and the shop is on the left. When I walked in I was immediately greeted by two Polynesian women and was asked if I was looking for anything in particular. I replied, "yes a dress." She immediately put me in a fitting room and started handing me dresses. WOW! She asked if I had any preference in color or length and continued to provide me with options. She didn't make me feel ashamed of my size or self conscious in any way and all the dresses she gave me fit. I was ready with the dress I wanted in less than 15 minutes! The dresses I tried on were priced between $60-75 but it's sort of the average price or even less than what you'd pay going to Hilo Hatties, Kealopiko, or Manuhealii. I didn't get a chance to look at some of the other outfits they had to offer as I was too focused on my dress but I did see that a lot of the men's dress shirts were around $40 which is pretty cheap considering the colors! First time I bought from Missing Polynesia was at TahitiFete of San Jose - and then I haven't seen them since. Luckily last year I went to Hawaii and went to their shop in Aiea. Great shop with a variety of designs of dresses, tunics, and jewelry! My sister and I are in love with your shop - and service is top notch. I believe we spent more than $300 at the store. Missing Polynesia traveled to San Diego for this years Pacific Islander Festival. I was soo happy they did. I bought a beautiful Tunic. I only wish I bought more of their apparel.
