To tell you the truth I haven't been to Rex's in many years. When I did come here, it was almost always to get their fish and chips. Maybe it was just me being younger and naive, but I always found theirs to be exceptionally good (when compared to similar American family restaurants). I found myself back here again craving these fried pieces of cod. I really should try other menu items because they have a ton of dishes to choose from to satisfy even the pickiest of eaters. But of course I went with the fish and chips, and I'm happy to say they did not disappoint me. I don't know for sure whether the filets were fresh or frozen, but the fish itself tasted very tender and flaky while the batter had the perfect amount of crunch to it. I ordered mine with a side of coleslaw, as is tradition. The lady who waited on me was very nice and attentive. As far as the dining room is concerned I can't remember if it always looked this way or if they made some changes. Either way I think the restaurant is a nice place to grab a meal, and I cannot find too much to complain about. read more

It used to be good diner fare but now it seems like it's all highly processed and odd tasting. The servers are really friendly and nice. The food is not great. I ordered something that came with sauce and there was a "slimy glob" in it. I could tell it was a poorly made "just add water" sauce and maybe the glob was the skin that forms on top, no one wants to eat that. The pancakes tasted chemical-y, like it's that difficult to make pancake batter from scratch? I ordered carry out from them a while ago and the meatloaf was so overcooked as to be inedible. If they are just going to let food dry out under a heat lamp, why would they think someone would want to eat it, much less pay to eat it. If you can't make pancakes or sauce or meatloaf, please, take them off the menu. This is one of those places that needs to figure out what they do well and focus on that. It's actually a shame really. It's one of the few diners that are open for dinner but it's just terrible for most meals. read more

We stopped here for breakfast on our way home. GREAT service, staff was kind, welcoming, and prompt. Lots of different options on the menu for breakfast! Food was great and came quickly. Restaurant was very clean with a very welcoming atmosphere. read more

We ordered chicken and waffles. Rex's doesn't have it set up on door dash so that you can indicate if you want wing-dings or tenders. So we put in the special instructions "tenders". Our order arrived and it was wing-dings. I called to let Rex's grill that there was a mistake. They said they would transfer me. The next woman to answer answered the phone unprofessionally with a an irritated "hello??" Then as I started to explain my issue she cut me off saying it was door dashes fault and I should reach out to them. She insisted that we must not know how to put special instructions in on door dash. She was being incredibly condescending and rude through the whole call. The issue of wing-dings vs. tenders was not a big deal, but the way the woman on the phone handled the situation is what prompted my review. This is super disappointing as we go to Rex's all the time and normally have a five star experience. The kitchen made a mistake and instead of simply apologizing she blamed DoorDash and suggested we were incapable of ordering from door dash correctly. They should put someone who has better costumer service skills on the phones. read more

I met my friend here for breakfast last week and we were blown away by the friendly staff and delicious food! We both had the turkey sausage skillets with coffee. We had the best waitress, Debbi! She was so sweet and made sure our coffee cups were always full. The owner also is very sweet and made sure every table was taken care of. I can't wait to return next time I'm back in town. read more

Been meaning to try this place for quite a while. The menu is kind of upscale for breakfast and fancy Coney Island for the rest. The chicken and waffles and monte cristo French toast are top notch! I'm used to monte cristo being fried and this one is not - which I prefer! It's a nice Texas toast French toast with ham, cheese and jelly type sauce on the side. The chicken and waffles are surprisingly delicious - perfect waffles with a little crunch in the outside and soft on the inside. The chicken is nicely battered and and lightly fried so it's not oily like some fried chicken. The chicken taco salad is SO good! Fresh greens (not just iceberg) with a perfect balance of grilled chicken, cheese, and veggies and a nice taco shell. They're set up very well for safe carry out and safe dining in options. read more

Rex, named Top 10 Diners in Dearborn!! How did I miss that?! Definitely, make it a habit of stopping in. No carryout for me. Love it that much!! Omelette! Consistently good. Hot and comes with my Raisin-bread!! Lightly toasted, only for me to add Straw'Berry Jam! Wash it all down with Rasp'Berry Tea....everytime! Service is great. Been there twice and place does not disappoint! I have only ordered breakfast.... but extremely yummy hash brows are my fav ! Very berry French toast was tasteful and huge ! Eggs Benedicts not so bad ! I am picky about them and these were good ! Service is great ! Debbie helped us the second time and she was attentive and nice ! Coffee was coffee, I like the fact that they give u a mug to refill it yourself. I only gave it a four because I have not tried anything else on the menu ! Waitress was pleasant. Cashier was pleasant. Food over priced and not tasty....specifically the "Monte Cristo". The sandwich was just two pieces of French Toast, a piece of ham, and Swiss cheese slapped together. No deep fry batter or turkey! Terrible! read more

I remember vaguely why we were in the area. My husband needed to get something in his car checked out at the dealership nearby. We were plenty hungry and in need of immediate nourishment. We've never been here before and we wanted breakfast food. So why not. I ordered the eggs, ham and hash. Its was pretty good. Pretty basic. Tastes like what eggs, hash and ham should taste like. My husband did the French toast, meat and eggs. French toast was pretty good, everything else was super basic. I also had the biscuits and gravy. That dish was very lackluster. This is the dish I usually do my basis on these types of restaurants. Quite frankly, hot sauce couldn't save the taste even if it tried. Places like these remind me of a time. A time when America was an old institution. Where you walked into a shop and you can get yourself breakfast at any time of the day. An establishment where chicken fingers and fried potato sticks rules the dining hall. Service was amazing, our coffee was refilled and so did our waters. The food was a major let down though, but I get it. Most of the people dining in here is retirement age and older. They're the bread and butter, not people like us. You guys keep doing you. I've been going to Arestis' restaurants since early 2000. I hadn't visited in a while but three of us met there for lunch. The wait staff and Arestis' son were great! The food was very good. I had salad leftover and the 2nd time I went there it was about the same goodness. Good soup as I recall. read more

Lived in the area since it was Dimitris. Went in for steak n eggs, they failed the first time around on both fronts. Great service but the portions pricing and cooking are just average. Better off going to one of the places south on Telegraph for better portions. read more

This has become our breakfast spot. At least every other week we come. Hands down the best breakfast in the area. This restaurant really is a hidden gem. It's clean, the staff is so friendly! They even know us now and make sure to stop by our table to say high. The food is always hands down delicious. The prices are great. I always still get the very berry stuffed French toast. Always. Before today we had only ordered carry out because of Covid. The food has always been great so today we decided to go in. The food was excellent, even better fresh out of the kitchen! The staff here is on top of it too, very friendly and fast. We usually get omelettes with extra crispy bacon. Today we also had pancakes that were perfectly light and fluffy, but ate them before I could even get a pic. read more

The sign just inside the door said that one of the specials of the day was their Spinach and Feta Omelette. Now we've all had omelettes before and it's hard to mess one up, right? We also know that it's even harder to make a really good one. This one was big enough for two people and it was outstandingly good as they didn't skimp on the feta cheese.. My omelette, along with some golden brown, crispy hash browns and a steaming cup of coffee were the perfect start to the morning. The restaurant is an older and kinda plain looking casual family type of place. It's neat and clean. The menu looks to be pretty extensive too. There were two ladies who were working that morning and both really pleasant and made this non-morning person very happy with their quick and friendly service. The breakfast is good, professional, honest, and well-groomed waitress. I've sent hashbrowns back because they were not cooked well, biscuits with gravy that tasted like flour and water, the waitress was very kind and replaced my food. Rex's is a hop away from my house and they have damn good breakfast. I've been twice for breakfast and once for dinner. I personally will stick to their yummy breakfast but they have a diverse dinner menu. I've ordered their berry stuffed French toast and their strawberry Belgian waffle. I've also tried a bite of their Nutella crepes. Everything has been wonderful. The crepe was more like a pancake (too thick) but still very delicious. I've ordered their bacon, and holy hell, it was perfect. My brush with dinner was slightly disappointing. I ordered the fried chicken meal for $9. The chicken was fried to a burnt crisp, but that day, our server was swamped and I was starving, so I ate the dry chicken... the fries were wonderful, though. Jacob ordered the Caribbean Jerk chicken sandwich and said it was pretty good. I thought their dinner was a little expensive for what it is, so I'll probably visit strictly for breakfast. Service has been pretty good. You'll never go too long without seeing your server. The place can get busy, but it's a family/older people diner... not too rowdy or loud. The decor is very classic and clean. There is plenty of seating, even for groups. This is a nice restaurant with a huge menu of items to order from. Give them a try sometime. **Free wi-fi! read more

Our family comes to Henry Ford Hospital about once per month to treat a chronic condition. We've been looking for a sit-down spot because our patient is exhausted after her procedure. It was our first time, but It won't be our last! Rex's has pleased us!! There's plenty of space for her wheelchair and it's not in anyone's way. The staff always accommodates mom with dementia, which can be challenging to understand her sometimes, very strange requests with her dementia! Our server Suzanne was super patient with her so she didn't get upset! This works out great for all of us! She was perfect and that extends to her crew and it team! Thank you! read more

Quintessential breakfast joint!! Clean surroundings, large seating area, coffee brought to the table and great waitstaff. Huge menu, with lots to choose from. Very hefty omelettes and really fresh and delicious hash browns. I ordered the turkey sausage, feta, spinach omelette with cheddar to top it off and a side of sausage gravy. Huge portion and nice flavors! Again, the service was on-point, quick, friendly and efficient. I am looking forward to coming back another time for lunch, but breakfast is a winner! Ever since Sal the cook left months ago the food just isn't the same. He always had specials We went in today and there were no specials and the wedding soup was made with sausage not little meat balls husband got country fried steak gravy so thick was like a glob of potatoes I got turkey dinner and mine was ok nothing special but wasn't bad l just won't be going back or referring anyone there until someone tells me things have improved read more

The veggie omelette here was hand down amazing! I really enjoyed it, the staff is very friendly and attentive. My husband got the French toast he thought which was alright, he wasn't a fan of the berry syrup but other than that I thought it was really good especially because they use fresh fruit and none of that frozen defrosted sugary stuff. I would definitely come back and have them hold the sauce because I'm not to big on artificial flavored sweetness but if you are go for it! Yum yum read more

ordered a western omelet, no condiments, no utensils, called the manager he hung up on me, I went to the store, the manager told me i miss ordered my dinner, told me he was busy, and get out of his store or he would call the police. Yes, a couple of team members weren't keen on ordering Fasolia with scrambled eggs, large Greek salad, 2 lahm sighar (one with potato and one quit eggs), 2 smashed burger, Yemeni scrambled eggs, chicken fajita, Greek skillet, southwest skillet, chicken wrap, coffee, tea without milk, Turkish coffee, mint lemonade refresher. Every team member said their food was good. The scrambled eggs are a tad runny and looked a bit puréed. The fasolia has good flavor and even better with some heat. It came out piping hot. Without the added eggs, this dish would be woefully lacking in substance for me. I would likely still be left hungry with the beans alone, since I don't eat the bread, generally. I tried the bread to give it a go, it's good. The Greek salad is nicely plated or bowled rather. The ingredients are in separate piles and looks like a pinwheel. The red onions were crudely cut. The tomatoes looked wrinkled and not so appealing. The Greek salad was underwhelming for me. The tea doesn't taste good, definitely need some honey, sugar or the milk here, although I favor nothing in my tea.

Theeeee must have that I tried were the smoked wings. I have never had wings that were smoked and then fried baby they were crispy. They were seasoned to the bone and were delicious. I almost ate them all and had no room for anything else. We also did the berry pancakes which could feed 3-5 people alone; second of all, they're not overly sweet, which is why I did berries and not the peaches or anything like that; and, third of all, the pancakes are the size of your face, but they are fluffy and melt in your mouth! These were easily top two pancakes I've had in my life. We also tried the shrimp and grits, also a 10/10. A generous portion of shrimp, not overcooked and the sauce was bomb. They do put bacon on it if you're not a bacon eater pay attention. I tasted around it anyways but yes, we also tried a vegetarian omelette with home fries. This was just a 7/10 but probably because we only ever tasted it reheated because we were too full to touch it. These issues are fixable with more attentive service, regular check-ins with guests, and better upkeep of the space (for example, more frequent wipe-downs and subtle scent control). I still tipped the staff 20%, but overall this experience was disappointing. A lot of effort has clearly gone into the decor and live music, and that same level of care should be extended to service and operations.

This time, the pita chips were sogy and not crunchy even though we dug in immediately. Otherwise, this dish was flawless. The large size is huge and enough for four people to share. 6 Falafel- They come drizzled with tahini and a touch of spice. They are tender and moist inside, and the outside is fried so that somehow it's maximally crispy without lacerating the inside of your mouth. It's flavorful enough to eat by itself, or dipped in the sauce it comes with or any of the other dips you order. Hummus- This is smooth and topped with whole, tender chickpeas nested in the middle, and a sprinkle of dried herbs. There's not a lot of olive oil that comes with the dish, but there's olive oil provided at the table to help with adjusting the consistency if you desire. This was the perfect consistency and delicious overall. If this was the only hummus available to me for the rest of my life, I would be happy. The bread is commercial pita bread wrapped in a basket at the table, and they give you the usual assortment of vegetables (sliced tomato, onion, pickles, etc) on a plate as well to enjoy with your meal.

It's been a couple of months since then, but we finally decided to visit recently for breakfast. Unlike the Lebanese breakfasts places around Dearborn, this restaurant was pretty empty with only two other tables with patrons. Falafel, 1/2 Doz ($5.99) - The quality is evident in these falafels and you can tell they are made to order. They have a very delicate crisp on the exterior throughout and the interior is more mashed and fine as compared to a typical falafel. It seems like it's purely chickpea, without the addition of herbs. It comes drizzled with tahini and comes with a nice lemony yogurt sauce on the side. The mix of chickpeas and spices is phenomenal - these are some of the best falafels I've had. Spicy Potatoes ($6.99) - A good size portion of pan fried potatoes mixed with cilantro and a small amount of pepper flakes. I wouldn't really call these spicy - there's barely any pepper in it at all. The potatoes are fluffy and come with a yogurt dipping sauce on the side. Fatteh w/ Meat, Large ($16.99) - I'm no expert on the difference between Lebanese and Syrian food, but from what I can tell, this Syrian-style fatteh has pomegranate arils mixed in and is quite a bit less liquidy. This allows the pita chips on the bottom to still retain a nice crunch, unlike how soggy the chips are in the Lebanese fatteh I've had. The dish had a very nice mix of yogurt, giving and tangy taste, and hummus and chickpeas. Then it's topped with a mixture of lamb and beef (it has a bit of a gaminess to it) and toasted cashews. I think this is the best fatteh I've had so far. We actually also ordered a medium hummus as well but they forgot to bring it out. To be honest, though, when we saw the size of the fatteh, we were glad they forgot the hummus! It's huge - between the two of us, we only finished maybe 1/4 of it. On the side, they give you a plate of fresh mint, pickles, onion, and tomato to use as garnish. We also got 4 whole pitas to eat everything with. I would definitely come eat at Shamiat again - in fact, I'd probably rather go here than to AlTayeb, because of the fact that Shamiat is just a whole lot less crowded and is equally delicious. I highly recommend trying out Shamiat if you're in the area.
