Rib Plate with mac n cheese and seasoned tots
    Linda F.

This is my favorite BBQ in Lafayette or West Lafayette. It is so good. (My favorite BBQ in central Indiana is Big Hoffa's in Westfield, look up my review of it. Excellent). The ribs at Revolution are smoked with a delicious rub. Great flavor. They don't fall off the bone. I'm not sure if that's because they're smoked or what. But they're good. The brisket is amazing. This is a must try. They have some kind of pepper blend rub that will knock your socks off. It's so juicy and delicious. The seasoned tots are really good and crunchy. The baked beans are fabulous. The mac n cheese is terrible. No flavor. Has some kind of Cheeto dust on top. Don't get that. They have sweet tea too. That's so hard to find now that we left the South. The nachos are excellent. We always get a half pan. Tonight the avocado was not quite ripe enough yet. It was pretty firm. Regardless, those nachos with pulled pork were delicious. Service was great on a busy Friday night. Our server was Holly and she did a great job. They also have homemade pies and other desserts. I have yet to get any because I'm too full after dinner. I think I heard a server say they were out of several desserts. The Purdue students came back this week so I'm sure this place has been hopping. If you're in the area, I highly recommend this place. You can't go wrong here.

Good service and most of the time good food. I would classify Revolution as a boutique bbq joint. Usually four star experience here. I give three today because the chicken sandwich was not hot. Restaurant, bar, and take away options abound.

Great lunch special of two tacos and tots!

Wow. This place just blows me away! This is my second visit and it's been a while since my first but it was every bit as good as the first. We both ordered tacos. Beef Cheek was our favorite but brisket, pulled pork and chicken were also quite tasty! They have tots! Nice crispy/creamy morsels that pair well with the tacos. We also enjoyed an adult beverage. He had a canned cider which was good. I had the Revolution margarita that was very tasty! Do not skip dessert here! It was cheesecake day and they came with fresh baked macrons! Strawberry Passionfruit & Tiramisu were our selections and they were divine!! Our server was super sweet too! She shared that they are moving to counter service next month which made me a little sad. This building has been a staple on main street and has historically been full service. It will be sad to see that go but it sounded all very positive and hopefully the quality of the food/drinks remains the same or somehow improves. Though I can't see how they could improve the food. It's stellar. There are two areas to this place. A small dining room and a bar area. Both areas are comfortable.

Solid BBQ spot with great food and casual vibes! We stopped in at Revolution BBQ and overall had a great experience. The food is definitely the highlight. Flavorful, well-cooked meats with great smoky flavor. Sides were solid too, especially the mac & cheese and baked beans. The atmosphere is laid-back and family-friendly. Get the mini pies to-go for later, you won't regret it! All in all, a great spot for BBQ lovers, we'd definitely go back for the food.

Ambience was good. Service was good. Food was not. My Brie was walk-in cooler cold and not melted at all, when I brought it up to the server they said it just depends on who is in the kitchen. After nearly 18 years in food service myself, this was very disappointing. I don't know a chef or line cook worth their salt that is going to send out unmelted Brie cheese. You clearly don't demand consistency from your kitchen staff, and toxic behavior is seemingly somewhat tolerated internally. Additionally, your establishment continues to be out of items listed on the menu. My mother has quite a few diet restrictions and fried pickles are one thing she can have. We tried to order them and were told they were out... they were also out of any and all dessert options at the end of the meal, when we were told fried pickles was the only thing they were out of after that discussion. Just all around terrible. I ate my collard greens, which were good and I'd had before, but left still very hungry. Nothing else was offered or suggested to me and no apology from the manager took place. We will not be back and I'd recommend you stay away yourselves.

Pulled pork with ribs, brisket, Mac and cheese, potato salad, and Texas Toast

Every once in a while, the Midwest surprises me with how good BBQ here can be. This was one of those times. I went with pulled pork plate and added 4 oz. of brisket and 4 oz. of ribs. All of the meats were sensational! The ribs were humongous and meaty. I added them to my plate for $6. The menu said 4 oz. but they gave me 4 huge meaty ribs that weighed more than 4 oz. The brisket was moist with a good bit of bark and fattiness. The pulled pork was also tender and smoky. It was also moist without being greasy. Solid pulled pork! There are 5 sauces and my rank would be the Apple Bourbon Mustard first (goes extremely well with pork), the Alabama White (more horseradish, went well with the brisket), the house which was a mildly sweet and peppery sauce, the strawberry habanero with a little sweetness and some medium heat, and the one I couldn't stand...the hot habanero. I like hot BBQ sauce but it had no taste except for the burn. The mac and cheese was the best side I had as it was creamy and had almost what seemed like crumbled up Cheez-its on top. The potato salad was all right except I hate celery and celery was in it. The beans were very misleading. They are not baked beans but more like a bean soup. The waitress told me they make them in a Coke and Sprite mix for a sweet and savory taste. I didn't taste the sweetness and didn't like them at all. Sweet tea is important to me as I'm from Alabama and at times, it is very difficult to find really good sweet tea in the Midwest. Revolution fresh brews their sweet tea in house, which makes a huge difference in sweet tea. Now it wasn't as sweet as I would like but it certainly got the job done as it was sweet enough to be good and very refreshing. I would order it again. Revolution gets the most important part of a BBQ joint right and that's having outstanding meats in good size portions. The sweet tea was enjoyable. The mac and cheese was terrific and the sauces are overall pretty good. The beans and potato salad weighs it down for me. I wish I could rank it a 4.5 but I gave it a 5 for how delicious the meats are.

OH MY GAWD!!! Today was my first time there, for a bourbon tasting event in conjunction with Old 55, and I have to say that, while the bourbon was spectacular, the food and service stole the show. Jason is an absolute master with his smoker - we had pulled pork, chicken wings, sausages, and lamb, smoked veggies and creamed corn, and he even gave me a tour of his kitchen and educated me on how his smoking rig operates. Service was great at the bar, too - Melissa and "It's me, Jessica" poured outstanding cocktails and kept things lively. Great intro to a fabulous downtown venue; I'll definitely be back with family and friends!

    Grit cakes, half sauced

I really truly want this place to be amazing, unfortunately it continues to come in at "good enough". Firstly they are association with Sweet revolution, a world class bakery in town and one would hope that the talent exhibited there on a daily basis would make its way over, but it just doesn't. Revolution barbeque is located in the heart of downtown. The overall ambiance is great, outdoor seating is available during the armed months and they have a great bar attached with a good selection of beer and rotating craft cocktails. The staff is always happy to help when they can, but I've always gotten the impression that management limits their abilities to solve problems for customers at the lowest level possible. This is just based on issues that we have had in the past that required a managers attention and I was told it would have to wait for the general manager to be available. From my service industry experience, this is about three levels of management too high for simple problems like a poorly made dish that requires a refund. The main issue I have is the food. The menu is everything you could ask for or expect at a barbecue restaurant, but the execution is consistently lacking. The brisket is usually left as a primal cut with the point and the flat still attached. Unfortunately this usually results in only one half being cooked properly and the other being dry or chewy. With our most recent order to go, the grit cakes were stacked such that only half of them were sauced. Also, none of the sauces were labeled which is a problem when they aren't as visually distinguishable as they probably should be. The Mac and cheese is consistently grainy, likely because there is too much flour used in the roux base. Again, I really want to like this place. It's local business, it adds to the community. But if you want consistently good barbecue, head to the east side of town for better options.

There is one word to describe this place...amazing. The staff was amazing, the atmosphere is amazing, the drinks are amazing and the food is amazing. There is free street parking near the restaurant that has a two to three hours time limit depending where you park. The restaurant is dived into two areas a dining area where you place you order and has tables/chairs and bar seating. The other side of the restaurant is the bar area where they have hi top seating, tables and chairs and a full bar with seating. The bar has a decent signature cocktail menu to select from and the bar tender was very friendly and helpful. You will see a television off to the side of the bar. There is smooth music playing throughout the restaurant. This place serves your basic Q such as pulled pork, wings, turkey and ribs, but their signature meat is their brisket and that is what I ordered along with a side of waffle fries and soda baked potatoes. The place also offers desserts sides, appetizers and homemade drinks. Their strawberry lemonade was to die for. You should definitely check out their daily special on the board. They also make their own barbecue sauces which include Peach Bourbon Mustard, house, hot and my favorite Peach Habanero. It took about 10 minutes for me to get my meal and it was absolutely delicious. The brisket lived up to the hype. The Texas toast that came with it was exceptional good too. The beans were good, but they were not the type of beans that I was expecting or was use to. It was more like a stew. This meal was so good that it had me looking around for a witness and someone to tell how good it is. You know, head nodding good. I really enjoyed my meal here...like really, really. Anyway, I highly recommend checking this place out for a good meal, extraordinary service, and a great atmosphere.

I cannot comprehend this place, after four visits with friends, unable to recommend any dish or drink as a standout win up against the cost. Let me nail down each dish we had this past Wednesday, the grilled bacon was entirely fine, quite tough but nice fatty flavors, I like Teay's River candied bacon app better. Oyster was good, east coast briny does me right. Our Old Fashioneds were insanely expensive without offering any memorable flavors, balance seemed restrained neither giving a forward bite or a smooth sweetness. Strawberry Lemon sprits was similar, an overpriced kid's slushy. Asparagus was fine. Potato sides surprisingly flavorless, we all couldn't believe how dull the potatoes were. My sister's salmon looked half the size of Town and Gown's while costing fifty percent more and offering half the food. She did finish the ocean protein but left most of the rice. Thankfully the desserts were better, bread pudding somewhat dry and needing a sparkle of that smooth actual pudding but the winner was definitely the key lime. Rich and dense, dreamy and tangy, I got happy! Sure the atmosphere and staff is enjoyable, providing some fresh city vibes compared to the homely and old school Mountain Jacks. However Jacks and Mcgraws Steakhouse both do far better as culinary is concerned. Would be exciting to see this place fix up their inconsistency, out of touch pricing, or they'll be the next to go the way of Bowen Bistro during the next economic crash.
