    Clam Chowder
    Rizma W.

The food was better on my second visit but the service was terrible. I waited at least 15 minutes while the bartender/server stood behind the bar and had a conversation with another employee. When I was finally served, it felt like I was inconveniencing the server by causing her to have to do her job. You can definitely tell when somebody doesn't feel like being at work that day. The clam chowder was pretty good. Not as creamy as I'm used to; more hearty, like a stew. A few of the clams were overcooked and rubbery, but overall it was a pretty good soup. The lobster rolls were good, but they were drowned in butter. I know that poaching them in butter is part of the preparation process, but even by those standards it was still a lot of butter. Fortunately, the lobster meat was sweet and there was plenty of it. The bread was lightly toasted and helped to soak up some of that butter. Not the best lobster rolls I've had, but decent.

    Shrimp tacos and salad.

The service was wonderful and attentive - all with a smile. Special shout out to Bramwell for going above and beyond. The colonial era home and quintessential New England village were the icing on the BBQ. We're not from the area, but when we are back this way, we are stopping in again for sure.

"And there's fire on the mountain Lightening in the air…read moreGold in them hills and it's waiting for me there" (Marshall Tucker Band) Fire On the Mountain has one of the most unique menus I've ever encountered. Seriously, where else have you ever seen breakfast quesadillas, catfish and grits, cheesecake cornbread waffles, smoked brisket hash, deep fried pork ribs, catfish, mushroom, and alligator tacos, and a Puerto Rican Rice Bowl all happily living in the same menu's neighborhood? And then, the icing on the cake was our server - a charismatic and uber-friendly gent named Bromwell who lights up the room with his personality. He made my list of the five greatest servers I interacted with this year. The restaurant's location is as unusual as its menu. You'll find it occupying the front space at the Suffield Commons Senior Living Apartments! Yup, as you walk through the restaurant and out their back door, you actually enter a common space for the housing complex. The restaurant itself has two dining rooms with booths, tables, and chairs and a bar with dining room chairs. That eclectic menu is chock full of breakfast, lunch, and dinner choices with Mexican and barbecue flairs. We were there for lunch and ordered two things. The first was an enormous Cheese Quesadilla ($9.35) with pork ($3.12) on a grilled flour tortilla served with sour cream and pico. It was a thing of beauty, cut into five thick wedges loaded with smoked pork. Our second item was a Caesar Salad (Half size for $6.23) with a side of smoked brisket ($9.36). I passed on the croutons and Caesar dressing in lieu of barbecue sauce as my dressing. I gotta tell you, the brisket was GREAT, a big serving of tender and juicy smoked beef cut into four slabs that must have totaled close to a half pound. We loved everything about Fire On the Mountain and agreed that we need to return for a proper breakfast when we are out that way or making a morning airport run. PRO TIP The restrooms are located in the housing complex's common space I described earlier/ Just exit the restaurant by the door in the rear dining room, and you're just about there.

I visited this restaurant since it was the closest steakhouse to our hotel on a recent work trip…read more We tried to order iced tea....and they said they have it..but they would have to brew some. Apparently iced tea is a no no to order in the fall or winter in small town Connecticut. I chose their 14oz prime ribeye for what seemed to be a good price of only $40. It comes with the mixed veggies (Broccoli. Carrots. Squash) and potato of the day (homemade mashed potatoes). The steak was a bit chewy and did not seem to be a typical prime cut of beef I am used to getting back in Texas. Maybe prime beef in Connecticut isn't as good quality, who knows. The homemade bread that comes out before the dinner is good but hard. It's also very garlicky. Service was a bit awkward. Our waitress came by halfway through and said she was checking to make sure we were well taken care of...but my tea was almost empty and she just walked off and didn't say she'd refill it. I eventually had to flag her down a few mins later to ask for a refill. At fancy restaurants, they just fill it without you asking. She also messed up my colleagues meal. He asked for no squash and the chef seemed to put extra squash on his plate. She should have remembered that he didn't want squash. Overall, it was a decent experience, but I just expected more from a fancy restaurant. You pay a little more for better food and better service, but we didn't get that here.

Chopt is a restaurant chain with salads, wraps, and bowls that are made and tossed to order. Think of Subway or Chipotle where they build your salad in front of you. When we walked in, the restaurant wasn't busy and very clean. I loved the natural and modern vibe. The menu consisted of salads, warm bowls, and wraps with options to create-your-own and let your creative mind run wild. We ordered ready made creations from their menu. I ordered the Spicy Sonoma Caesar Salad, my husband got the Mediterranean Tahini Bowl, and my mom tried their seasonal Sweet Peach Burrata Bowl. The staff were very nice and helpful. They made sure everything looked good to you before they finished. I liked that they tossed the salads in the dressing and asked how much (lite, regular, a lot). There were like 20 dressings to choose from. My salad was huge and had a lot of toppings. It had a lot of chipotle chicken, spicy pickled peppers, avocado, and yummy parmesan crisps. I liked that there weren't croutons. The romaine and kale were fresh and crisp. This salad did bring the heat because the dressing had a kick. My husband and my mom enjoyed their bowls too. I liked the concept of Chopt. It's just a bit pricey, but I understand why since they have so many fresh ingredients. If I'm craving a fresh salad, I would visit again.
