We travel full time for work so the wife and I took a month or so to spend in the Joshua Tree area…read morein our off time. We decided to desert camp close to a RC track. The 1st time we visited the owner and staff were helpful, friendly, and social. They invited us for race night and said we could even use a rental car for the night since we didn't have anything for their class. Unfortunately, that whole experience felt like we just paid to be track marshals and then be rushed into races we weren't even ready for. Either way, we made the best of it and enjoyed our time together through the event. At the end of the night, the owner asked me about my experience and, being transparent, I told him the other racers were driving dirty by putting other drivers intentionally into the wall and, from my experience, I wasn't really a fan of rushing out to marshal every race while I watched regulars sit back. Over the next few days, the owner began to display a growing chip on his shoulder. At one point, I was working on my car and asked the owner if he could help me with some soldering. He said he would help but avoided my pit table for the rest of the evening and even made a snide remark to another customer about being asked to solder something for me. If it weren't for another regular there who ended up giving me a hand with the soldering, I'd probably still be waiting for the owner to come through with his commitment. We were invited for another race night after fixing our short course truck. We drove an hour trip to the track only to be told they weren't racing that class that night. So, we stayed and watched all the races to make it worth our trip. That must've upset the owner because, afterwards, we went to a local outdoor track and were told all about the local drama. Unfortunately, as visitors to the area, minding your own business isn't good enough for the owner of Coyote Hobbies because he will want to start drama with you. If you're not from the area, he will likely try to make you the scapegoat for his own drama. With how uncomfortable he made us feel over time during our stay, I'd highly recommend anyone traveling through to avoid this place if you don't care for conflict and drama. This place is known for it and has no problem making you the center of the drama they start. The owner is well-aware that he is the only race track/hobby shop in the area, and he has no problem using that monopoly to his advantage. It is people like this who turn newcomers away from the hobby, and it's clear that he really only cares about advancing his and his son's careers in the RC world. Be prepared to kiss the proverbial ring if you plan to take a trip to Coyote Hobbies.

Just visited Coyote for the first time yesterday to try to trouble shoot my kids RC car that wasn't…read moreable to drive forward or reverse but the wheels would turn just fine. Now let me say that im not at all knowledgeable in RC world stuff which is why I wanted to go get some advice from a SME (subject matter expert) which is what I thought I would fine there. Well...I was mistaken, when I walked in with my kid and the RC car in hand the guy behind the counter was talking to another person (which at first I thought was a customer he was helping) so I waited patiently until it was my turn. However I quickly realized this was a personal conversation about the guy behind the counters personal vehicle and customizations that were being done. The "customer" was giving feedback on parts and customization advise and this conversation continued for several minutes...again I waited patiently in the corner as there was no one else in the shop. I was not asked if I needed help until well into their conversation and felt as if I was interrupting their convo, and even then the convo continued on in between "helping me". End result was that my motor was bad and continued to talk, did not give me options or what I could do until I asked what my options were, then I was told here is a motor that should work (should work?) As I mentioned in the beginning I thought I was coming to seek an SME but man I was mistaken. Oh and did I mention the convo continued? I was done and wasn't going to spend my time or money there so I respectfully said ok thanks (mind you at no time was I rude or disrespectful or even interrupted their convo) and walked out, while the conversation still continued. I ended up going home and tinkering (with something I know nothing about) and watched a couple of YouTube videos and was able to get the motor working again due to some stuck debris. Now my kids RC is working and no thanks to coyote. This isn't even to bash Coyote but some constructive criticism, as I have 3 RC cars that I play with my kids and 3 potential upgrades or fixes/sales were lost. I really hope they read reviews and strive to improve the customer service.

They also host a lot of tournaments for different games here with great prizing! I would recommend anyone to visit and participate in their events/tournaments. Each game has great judges that will help out for any scenario or questions when it comes towards any game. Not to mention they have an amazing point system when you purchase product, I have saved a lot of money when it came towards their point system would highly recommend supporting this card shop because they do an amazing job in keeping product for people when sets release. Also they have a wide variety in snacks and drinks for a cheap price. This is without a doubt the best card shop I have ever been to that supports their customers, games and product in California. Thank you for hosting awesome events and giving back to the community!!

I wanted to get my boyfriend some MTG cards for his birthday, so I headed to this local game shop…read morebecause a family friend and his wife owned the place. I figured if anywhere would be welcoming and helpful--especially to someone new--it would be there. I was wrong. I walked in and stood there for several minutes while the staff ignored me completely. They weren't busy with other customers; they were just chatting with their friends. Eventually, an employee came over and passed me off to Nick. I explained I was new and needed some help, but from the get, he was unfriendly and dismissive. I tried asking questions, but he barely answered, acted annoyed by my lack of knowledge, and gave me these disdainful looks like I was wasting his time. It got worse. He finally said, "You should probably leave and come back with someone who actually knows what they're talking about." My jaw dropped. I asked if he was seriously telling me to go. He backpedaled a bit--"You don't have to, but it'd be better if you did, since you really don't know anything"--So I left, feeling humiliated and frustrated. Thankfully, I went to Sevens Goods and The Paladin's Rest instead, and it was the complete opposite-- staff was genuinely kind and patient and not for one second did he make me feel stupid. We've been going back ever since for buying, trading, whatever. My boyfriend says the prices are fairer there too, and the whole vibe is just so much more welcoming. In the end, it worked out--thanks to Nick, I found a better spot. But I still feel bad for the owners. I can't imagine Rudy would be happy knowing how the staff treat people like that. Its pretty sad. To responder: Im not sure who replied since Rudy passed. My dad passed last year and really respected Rudy. The incident happened in January. Your staff is certainly capable. It took me a long time to decide to post, but was talking with someone who had a similar experience and decided that I needed to. I don't like to say negative things about small businesses, but this was something I've never experienced. There is a thing happening with staff thumbing their nose at people. I wasn't rude. I was respectful and asked for help. Its nuts that I would be told to come back with someone who knew what they were talking about. The very reason I came to the store was to talk to an expert, not to be treated like they didn't want to waste their time on me. Even after, I just simply left. I didn't even know what to say. It just sucked because I didn't expect it and customers certainly don't deserve it.
