I have had good interactions with the staff at this location and they always greet me when I come in the door. They always ask if there is anything they can help me find. A total goldmine of nostalgia and awesome games! They have SO MANY games and consoles, some I'd never even seen in person before (Haunting Ground and Rule of Rose are so elusive!!). Their pricing is fair, for such a collection of games that aren't being made anymore seeing a super rare game for 300$ isn't a surprise. They also have a ton of more inexpensive games and good finds. This store definitely has the selection of popular and rare games with a sprinkle of rare consoles like the Hello Kitty Dreamcast I used to drool over about 20'years ago. The only thing is, as a collector myself, I wasn't able to muster up the 200% markup on the prices to buy any of the games. Not even one. I actually thought I'd lost my mind and became rich overnight because I actually thought for a moment of selling the same items I own only to realize their prices are not based on actual value. It's nice to walk around and look at the games but there is no way I'd pay over $10 for most ps2 games unless it's something like Silent Hill or some of similar value, but not one game was under $12. Literally was ready to go home and make a million on my own collection! Ps one games were even more overpriced. I get that if you want to really play a game that you need now or found that one thing that you want to blow your 14th birthday wad on, but even with big kid money, this is nothing about retro game trading but more about fleecing people for their memories. The presentation of the games along with easy to read labeling system which gives you all the info you need without having to continually ask questions is top tier. This is a game store you can go for basic games and high end games. The perusing experience is unmatched. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable. Prices are what they are in the market you visit. Certainly reasonable based off what I guess is "going sold on eBay rate." This may bother some, but it's reasonable. If you don't like a price, ask to negotiate. I used to love this store, it's like a walk in museum for anything a retro collector would die for. Sadly since COVID and the addition of the new storefront, prices have since skyrocketed. I don't mean slightly, the inflation here is absolutely insane! $280 for Silent Hill on PS1? ($90 on eBay in the same condition) Are you kidding me? $29 for Jedi Power Battles not in its original case?! (Half that on eBay/Amazon) The list goes on, and that's just for PS1 titles. Everything you'd find for $4 to $15 at another retro game store is automatically hovering over $30 or more, regardless if it's in the original case with artwork or not. Now granted if you're a true mint collector, this place and the prices are more justified. But if you're just trying to pick up a copy from the past and blast through it? Definitely not the place for you. There aren't many retro stores in the Portland are anymore but honestly with how disgustingly high their prices are I recommend eBay or Amazon for used copies. Even then with shipping you save so much more money and get the same games. It's just insane that one of the last stores in the Portland area will milk their prices and expect customers to pay the prices to have the game instantly instead of waiting. Lastly I'd like to point out the staff. Not the nicest bunch of people at all. The dialogue is holier than thou, judgement for your own preference if it's need pop culture topics, but their opinion isn't wrong. Isn't it just splendid to have one sided dialogue? I was absolutely impressed coming to this store. The place is spacious, organized and everything is so easy to find and super clean and organized. The staff were all amazing and helpful. One staff member gave my very excited 1 1/2 year old a little video game figure as a free gift which really made us feel welcome. We ended up getting him a charizard plush, a Mario kart pull back toy and some little vinyl figures as well. I purchased a treasure trove of games (all in great condition). One employee gave me super good service and even talked to me about other stores in the area to check out (which I really appreciated) and just the overall stores that were worth visiting during my trip. This place just had it all with selection, organization and customer service centered on making customers feel happy and welcome. Really unique place with respectful staff. Definitely overpriced compared to others, but it's because they have a larger selection compared to everyone else with more availability. You can get better deals elsewhere but you'll spend more time looking. Bigger name, bigger price and they know it. I told them that the prices were slightly high and they said it was slightly higher for the man hours required to have them on the shelf, but that they were definitely up to date. (They weren't). When asked if they bargain or if the prices were up to date they refused to double check. So they lose a star for that. That being said, the games I bought were in immaculate condition, so I didn't mind paying a little extra knowing they were legit and tested. He didn't even try to accommodate me in the slightest after I told him they are selling it 5 dollars more. pretty much told me to kick rocks... being someone who works in customer service I would never treat my customer like that and refuse to even research price and get back to me. I've spent plenty of money in that shop and have been a very nice and respectful person. This is absolutely ridiculous to think professionals treat their paying customers like they do. I drove 10 hours to visit Portland and decided this was the first stop before my 10 hr drive back home. Asked prices for 3 games that were already almost double market price. They "researched" prices only to come back validating that their prices were what market price was. Clearly they were lying or just didn't want to change price. All other prices throughout the store were consistently ridiculous, possibly to prevent them re-pricing over and over again. Went here recently with some friends: it's a massive store and they take pride in having such a huge collection of games, with nearly complete for some consoles, and it's genuinely pretty impressive. What's not impressive is the obscene markup on some of the games they listed. The virus caused some general price increases in retro games, plus things like the collectable card craze has caused anything with the Pokémon brand on it to skyrocket in value, but even with that taken into account, some of the games they're selling have a pretty hefty price increase on top of the currently inflated asking price from online resellers or tracking sites like PriceCharting. As far as I could tell, there was no guarantee that some of them were even CIB. The prices can be pretty obscene, but I suppose strategies like that are why they're still afloat while the brick and mortar used game shops from my childhood have all shut down. All that being said, they do have their impressive collection, plus some genuinely rare collectors items and imports that totally justify their price in my eyes. It also serves as a small museum of video game history, with little notes and recommendations from the staff in the store shelves, plus they've got lots of little trinkets and accessories like keychains and plushies that (I would assume) are very reasonably priced. The staff all seems very nice and knowledgeable as well, I still enjoyed making the trip out, even if I didn't buy anything. If you like this kind of stuff and you're in the area, I would still suggest checking it out, even if it's just to window shop, but if you find something you REALLY want there and have a fat wad of cash burning a hole in your pocket, I would still cross reference with PriceCharting.com and GameValueNow.com to make sure you're getting a fair deal. The market might be ridiculous as of this review, but remember that you too, as the consumer, are part of the market. They have a TON of games both new and classic, boatloads of accessories, and obscure systems of which you've likely never even heard. The prices seem to be a little more than what you'd pay online, but they have a really good trade in value for both in store credit and cash, plus just about everything you want there on hand and tested to ensure they work. Employees are friendly and engaging, and the owner showed me a couple of rare things they have off the floor because he overheard me saying I didn't know there was such a thing as a laserdisc player that also plays games (hell yeah, outdated dinosaur trivia!). It was amazing. I really appreciated their enthusiasm and knowledge. Between all of them you can get pretty good input on just about any question you may have on games or systems. They offer some classes (such as caring for and missing systems, etc.) and offer repair services, too. Also carry some game-related merchandise like jewelry, belt buckles, stickers, buttons, etc. I believe you can also rent the back area for pretty cheap to play games with a group and sometimes they host game tournaments.
