The short-term returned at 27.6 pCi/L and the long-term at 12.1 ± 1.6 pCi/L. These results are horrifying! After some research on mitigation specialists, I decided on Smart Space Atlanta. Within 48 hours after installation of the mitigation system, which was pretty much custom since I requested they conceal the system running it through my floors and ceiling versus outside alongside my house, my radon average was 0.3. Fast forward to two years later, I tested two separate areas of the basement with short-term test conducted by Alpha Energy Labs. The room furthest away from the mitigation system returned at Less than 0.9 pCi/L and the main area of the returned at less than 0.7 pCi/L. These are pretty amazing results! Complained and asked for remediation, got air quality samples showing highly elevated levels of VOCs but shrugged their shoulders and suggested removing it ourselves. Finally got it all removed for twice the cost of the original installation. DO NOT spray foam your home you will regret it and pay dearly. Since this is not an auto accident with ridiculous settlements, hiring an attorney will cost more than the expensive remediation which will still leave you holding the bag. The installer knows this so they will BS you until you just take care of it yourself.

Northwest was actually recommended to me by a friend and I'm so thankful I decided to give them a call because they've been nothing but excellent! The technicians are always on time and most importantly they are VERY thorough. They check and spray every crack, crevice and entry point. They do a really good job and I haven't had any pest issues since I hired them. Everyone is professional and efficient, as long as it stays that way I plan to keep them around for a while :-) My only small critique is that I wish they'd call before coming out for the automatic follow up visits. They finished batt insulation in my crawl space same day. Admittedly, they arrived 2.5 hours after our scheduled time, but I wfh so it was all good. The three folks who came out (Chris, Paul, and Parrot) were attentive and Chris helped seal other pesky rodent holes and ALSO warned me about a potential concern with my foundation. I had these guys out earlier this year to do a full vacuum removal of all the old, batted…read moreinsulation and do open cell spray foam as a replacement. I started by getting several estimates, Koala came in right in the middle, but I liked the salesman's attitude, nonconfrontational, not pushy in any, just honest. Price was very reasonable, so I set it up. Removal crew came out first, two guys with a huge vacuum machine, spent the better part of the day in the attic filling up a lot of bags of old insulation, trash, etc. The attic was bad, I admit, but after they were done, I checked the work and there was still what I what call a good bit of debris. Nothing bad, but I'd say they got maybe 90% of the debris, which was mainly on the top of the ceilings of all the rooms. They had already left so I couldn't say anything, and I figured maybe the next crew would finish it up. They did not. In fact, I learned when they called to schedule that the house would need to be vacant overnight, something I wasn't made aware of before. I rent two rooms out, so it was a bit of a hassle to tell them they had to find a place to stay overnight. The spray crew came out a few days later and spent a good portion of the day doing the job. I peaked in a few times and saw the process, and it's impressive. They sprayed the soffits completely full and then up all the roof line to the ridge and gables, covering every inch of the wood, rafters, joists, etc. When they were done, I mentioned the mess that was left from the removal crew, they didn't seem to think it was anything and brushed it off. They packed up and left, as did I for the night. The next day I did find a lot of trash in the yard from the hoses I guess, debris falling off it or from the truck. The job looks good, but there's been a few spots where foam fell while it was drying, and there's still a good bit of trash left that I suppose I'll clean up myself at some point. Strangely, no one reached out afterward to see if I was satisfied, happy, angry, anything. No word from anyone once the spray crew left. I would think someone would have reached out for a final checkup, but nothing other than the final bill. The house is cooler, quieter, and so far the Summer has been bearable with the added insulation, but I wish I had been treated a little more like a good paying customer and not just a check to pay the guys who did the work.
