The view of the garden at the outdoor seating was blocked by a perimeter of dead brushes which is a bummer. No view whatsoever. We got the lobster, foie gras terrine (my favorite), and beef tartare. Lots of bread to refill if you are not full! The bread goes well with the foie gras! Service was slow but our waiter was nice and try as much as he can but the waitress would not get anything we asked! We felt like we were invisible to her! Makes for a poor dining experience even if the food is good.

My husband and I shared one regular tasting menu and one fish tasting menu and we both got the wine pairings (one with the Bordeaux tasting, one without). The food was absolutely fabulous. So creative & interesting. Everything from plating the first course on the evergreen branches, to the onion & celery ashes frequently served on the fishes & meats. The meal was blissfully delicious and the portions were perfect. Also - do not miss the cheese course! It's definitely worth the add-on. The "best blue cheese in the world" from Bornholm (like many of the dishes at Koefoed) is not to be missed. It's AMAZING. Hubs tried the crispy pork dish, which we had never seen before. It was pretty interesting, large portions very filling. We loved the atmosphere, being right on the canal, watching life happen. After an AWFUL experience elsewhere on this august 25 summer vacation night (see my other reviews), I returned to where my mom took me as a child and where she went as a young woman after the war and where I've often been. Near where she's buried at Holmens Kirkegård and where she lived during the war in Nuboder, it's also beside where she broke up with her longtime boyfriend Jack to ultimately meet my Dad years later. The rail thin waiter here welcomed me with a knowing smile when I whispered inquisitively: frikadeller? These heavenly meatballs are what I grew up on! Very delectable and then vanilla ice cream and crepes! Diet be damned, whispered the Carlsberg washing it all down! As memories of the many times I'd come here with my mother soothed my aged mind, intermingled with her's, I silently bemoaned the industrial water disaster in the lake. I used to feed swans there now there are what appear to be mutant Ibis birds and graffiti all over. What's become of København! Some Americans came and left. In my halting beloved Danish, I found out why: the waiter just said "vegetarians!" I replied why didn't they stop them at Passport Control and he said "you said it, i didn't!" I added to him that this used to be called the Golden Duck - he said that name changed over 20 years ago but the duck lives on...

I'm not a huge fan of herring but the way they prepared it at this restaurant got rid of all the unpleasant scents of herring. I could barely tell I was eating herring. If you don't like herring but still want to try this scandinavian tradition, this is your place to be. The traditional danish meatballs tasted just as I expected, perfectly seasoned and not dry. I don't think the food here gave me the wow factor but it is such a cozy family style restaurant to have a hearty traditional danish meal that just warms your soul.
