What a neat experience! The pickled herring was so rich and delicious. I thought I would need to order multiple smorbrod but actually one was plenty. There were two herring filets on the one toast and combined with the egg I was a happy camper. I also tried one with a stinky cheese. It was enough that the server questioned me and asked me if I, obviously US American, was really ready for stinky. I said yes and was not disappointed. It was creamy on the front and then the aftertaste was definitely stinky. But not bad. The only thing that was rough for me was the snaps. The original one is like a whisky to me. Or at least it burns like one. So now I know, I'm not a snaps girl.

If you're anything like me, then just one visit to Told og Snaps will instantly put it at the top of your list of favorite restaurants in Copenhagen.  While all aspects of the dining experience here are exceptional, the food stands head and shoulders above all elsel - everything is house-made from fresh, high-quality ingredients and it all tastes wonderful! Tip: To complement the delicious food, there's a broad cross-section of both house-made aquavits and excellent Danish brands to choose from.   Everything I've tried here thus far has been wonderful, but my favorite to date is the Jacob's Snapsemad.  This dish is made with marinated Baltic herring, fresh potatoes, and fried bacon; its served on a bed of house-made mayonnaise - my mouth waters just writing about it :-) I'm leaving this restaurant in my Yelp bookmarks to ensure that I have no trouble finding it the next time I'm in Copenhagen!

A very charming restaurant where we wanted to try the traditional danish open sandwich experience. We didn't have a reservation but the staff were super kind and got us in to a restaurant that was super busy. It was a very cozy place where we got to have the full Smorgasbord meal. The Jacob was a great mix of herring, potatoes, bacon with remoulade on top of delicious rye bread. The chicken liver pate was very good. The fish with remoulade with fried bread was a hit!

Had a fantastic late lunch here. We tried 6 different smorrebord here and they were all great. Especially enjoyed the basic herring (#1) and the liver pate (#24). Friendly staff and warm surroundings made it a very enjoyable break from our touring. Highly recommend if you are looking for the traditional Danish sandwiches served elegantly.

hand-shelled shrimps are really good! But the seat is narrowed and the leading lady is not really friendly.

This restaurant is on "Restaurant Row" in the Nyhavn area. This restaurant was a recommendation,…read moreand I would recommend it too. There were outside tables, but it was a bit chilly, so we opted for the nearly deserted inside restaurant. We had a table near the window, so it was a great view. The restaurant was nicely decorated and the service was very friendly. I ordered the gravlax open-faced sandwich, which is smoked salmon (very similar to lox) on an excellent sour dough bread. I opted to skip the mustard sauce, but the sandwich was perfect. My wife had the potato open-faced sandwich, which consisted of new potatoes, organic rye bread, lemon mayonnaise (romaleid), fried onions and pickled pearl onions. She really enjoyed it, along with her Spritz drink. Denmark seems to be one of those countries, where you cannot order tap water. Fair enough. However, our water consisted of an open carafe (which I'm sure was tap water), for which we were charged 50 Krona ($8). This seems high for tap water.

Staff had a "I don't wanna be here attitude"... we were definitely a bother. Went for the burger,…read morecouldn't add cheese, staffed stated food was not made there, so no modifications. Settled on fried fish and shrimp croquettes (ok). We knew it was a tourist trap, but we were looking for better service. Great location on a beautiful day, if not for the excitement of being in the city... the staff could have destroyed it. On vacation, looking to order a drink, I was advised they only had what was on the menu... mind you, as you look around, the establishment next door was rocking a full bar! In my opinion, pick a trap with friendly inviting and help staff... not unless you like it that way!
