Awesome open faced sandwiches. Made to order, delicious sandwiches. Perfectly combined fresh ingredients to please your palate. Instagram-able foods here!! Cute dining area. Eat there or take out. Presentation is everything. You won't be disappointed when you go here. The sandwiches are so delightful, amazing, and delectable.

Sampler (155 kr.) of 4 open sandwiches. From left, avocado, ???, chicken salad, and braised pork.

I thought that I have to try open sandwiches 'cause I'm in Denmark. I found this place after googling. Ordered a sampler of 4 open sandwiches, but was disappointed. All I remembered was that they were small, salty and the bread was hard. (the pork was dry too) I'm not sure if the sampler of that day was below their average or Danish open sandwich is just not my thing. But the presentation was beautiful and the waiter was friendly.

This place is just ok. The food isn't as good as I expected. I came here because my friend recommended, but I didn't really like what we got.

Avocado smorrebrod. Very fresh. Loved the crunchy bits.

A great place to try smorrebrod after a trip to Rosenborg Castle. I first tried the four that came with the sampler menu. The braised pork was my favorite, followed by the avocado. My group tried the smoked halibut, Christmas pork, and rump steak smorrebrod as well. We got here around 12:30, and it wasn't too busy. By the time we were finishing our food, there was a line of customers. The service was attentive. The prices were okay, more affordable than other locations.

A trio to be reckoned with. Herring, beef, cheese.

Scandinavians love their smørrebrød (open-faced sandwich), both simple and elegant ones. Aamanns takes this to a gourmet form, while remaining truly Danish - sild (herring), ost (danish cheese), tartarmad (raw beef). Each one is made with such delicate care that you have to restrain yourself for a minute to admire its artistry. The combinations are exciting yet it never feels overreaching its roots. Truly an exemplary New Nordic cuisine. I had (1) Icelandic herring with thin slice of apples and creme fraiche, (2) beef tartare with tarragon jam and almonds, and (3) blue cheese with jellied plums and hazelnuts. Each one is decorated with different greens and ornaments to give great individuality while keeping a clean flavor. The winner of the three smørrebrøds is the blue cheese! If there is one complaint, it's the rye bread itself - the backbone of the smørrebrød - which I felt is about 95% right, just a tad too tough on a bite. Otherwise it's perfect. You'll never see sandwiches the same again. Post-Aamanns, I have always put an extra effort to jazz up my office lunch sandwiches :D

Just to sum it short, I'm a foreigner in Denmark who has lived in this country for 10 years and still find it difficult to have a cold lunch in the form of smørrebrød like the native people. That said, it doesn't mean that I don't enjoy having really well-made Danish open sandwiches. Since I don't eat smørrebrød often, I have to make sure the ones that I intake must be of good quality, or I would be sorry forever. So, no to føtex's 3 for 30 kr offer. Aamans, in my most honest opinion, serves one of the best smørrebrød in town. They might not be the traditional kind like Ida Davidsen, but still, it's something that even I could be excited about as a foreigner :P Halfway into December, I booked a table at Aamans for lunch time and found out that they have (only) Christmas menu. To be honest, I'm not fan of herring in any season, but my lunch mate could testify that it was good. My salmon was super as well, with the salmon so thick and moist. However, my favourite piece was obviously the tartar. I must admit that my love affair with raw meat is something of a recent affair but the tartar and roe smørrebrød was so good I felt like declaring my love to it. We downed the smørrebrød with Herlsev Julebryg which I wasn't such a big fan of (sorry IPA, I could never learn to love you) but all in all we had good experience at Aamans. PS: Make sure you book your table, this place is popular and can get pretty crowded during lunch time.

The pictures look so pretty on the website so we booked for both Sunday lunch and Wednesday dinner. For Sunday lunch we ordered three open sandwiches plus tea. The potato sandwich was all right but two fish sandwiches were outstanding. They were just so delicious and pretty. The quince tea was very smooth with nice smell. We think open sandwiches here are better than those at Royal Smushi and Schonnemann. For dinner one of us ordered 4 course menu and the other had to order a la carte. They are not flexible to accommodate for food restrictions. Food was so beautifully presented that we started to take photos which we usually don't do this kind of thing. The dinner plates and bowls were art pieces themselves. We also like the light greenish color of the wall and cute herb plant pot on each table. Food was good but not a "wow" as we experienced at its lunch and a few of other restaurants such as No.2. Taste cannot compete with its appearance. Highly recommend for lunch though.

This was one of the food highlights in Copenhagen! Amazing open sandwiches on dark rye bread, paired with aquavit (Scandinavian schnapps) if you don't have any plans involving open heart surgery after your meal. This stuff is strong. I came here for lunch and it was quite busy but I got seated without much wait. The menu offers several cold and two hot smorrebrods to chose from. I went for the herring, something I hadn't tried before, and the cooked ham with bacon and asparagus. The flavours on both were just divine. I had a glass of wine and some tab water as well and must say that 2 of them were plenty for me. They do recommend you go for three but you'd have to be very hungry to manage that. I take off one star because it is a bit overpriced, even for CPH standards. Other than that, I would 100% go back and can't recommend it enough!

We chose the menu "sampler" of open faced sandwiches during the lunch hour. I was impressed by the combination of flavors and how each plate uniquely stood out from the rest. I found the pickling motif very intriguing and enjoyed the feeling of freshness it added to a number of the plates. A few of the plates' sauces were perfectly infused with complementing flavors as well. I think a table of four could easily have been filled by what the two of us attempted to finish, unsuccessfully. Many of the beers available were made special for the establishment itself, and the one I got was a delightful IPA that was not too filling. The staff was friendly and the space well-lit and decorated. I highly recommend!

Top: herring & cheese. Bottom: beef tartare & potato

Service was great and friendly. The interior is small and has 11 or 12 small tables so we had to wait a few minutes. English menu is available. Lunch menu is solely open faced sandwiches & drinks. The food was spectacular. I got the potato one and the flavors were impeccable. I was also going to get the fish of the day one but they had already run out by 1:30 so I asked out server what her favorite was and she said she liked the beef tartare and it was the best! The flavor was great and and the textures were so good, it was topped with cucumber and small chips for a crunch. I also took tastes of my families sandwiches and both cheese ones off the menu I would definitely recommend. They were my favorite after the beef tartare one. The chicken salad, salmon, liver pâté, and herring were also all excellent. They really pair texture well with taste leading to an amazing meal! At then end of your meal get up and pay at the counter. Restroom also available inside.

Liver pâté smørrebrød -- a warm, timeless Danish classic

Liver pâté smørrebrød -- a warm, timeless Danish classic! Aamanns embodies the quinteseential Danish smørrebrød. Open faced sandwich, this restaurant is modern, with classic choices of smørrebrød. You can't go wrong with the liver pâté smørrebrød, which is served warm, on buttered rye bread, with the pâté topped with sautéed wild mushrooms. My mouth salivates just thinking of how amazing this sandwich was. Their chicken salad smørrebrød is a classic, and the salmon is topped with a dill sauce and mustard seeds that I could eat over and over again. Clearly a favourite with the locals, Aamanns does take-away and caters for those who want to serve their amazing sandwiches for a festive gathering. Truly one of the best sandwich shops in all of Denmark, Aamanns is not to be missed-

Even though they don't open till noon on Sunday, it is worth the wait. The service was great, just the right amount of attentive. Our waitress recommended a few smørrebrød fillings and we chose three of them and three more. 6 for two people was the perfect amount for brunch. We also tried two aquavits, which they make on site and pair very well with the smørrebrød. The rye bread one is very bready and hearty and the apple-horseradish-lemon is both strong and refreshing. Delicious, non intimidating and perfect for a light brunch near the castle and treasury.

Oh what fun it is to try little open face sandwiches that come with all different types of toppings. Dont like one? No worries, try the next little sandwich - which I bet is going to be mighty tasty. Open face sandwiches are a Danish classic. It was on our 'must do/eat' in Copenhagen list. What better place to go then Aamanns, a famous establishment for making yummy sandwiches while making sure they use quality ingredients. We tried four types Beef from Grambogaard - Slices of grilled sirloin with chunky remoulade, horseradish, crispy onions and chervil. Absolutely amazing and my personal favorite. The horseradish wasn't overpowering but provided a bite. The creamy remoulade and the medium rare beef that was served cold. New Potatoes, chicken skin, almonds and ramson. Quite delish! The chicken skin gave a salty crunchy aspect, while the potatoes were cooked just right. Organic eggs with shrimps with green asparagus, dill emulsion and rye crumbs. This was my husband's favorite, which is suprising because he is not a huge shrimp guy. All were awesome. In the deli, they also have a good selection of chilled beer, wines and soda to have while dining and also some for purchase to go.

This restaurant is on "Restaurant Row" in the Nyhavn area. This restaurant was a recommendation,…read moreand I would recommend it too. There were outside tables, but it was a bit chilly, so we opted for the nearly deserted inside restaurant. We had a table near the window, so it was a great view. The restaurant was nicely decorated and the service was very friendly. I ordered the gravlax open-faced sandwich, which is smoked salmon (very similar to lox) on an excellent sour dough bread. I opted to skip the mustard sauce, but the sandwich was perfect. My wife had the potato open-faced sandwich, which consisted of new potatoes, organic rye bread, lemon mayonnaise (romaleid), fried onions and pickled pearl onions. She really enjoyed it, along with her Spritz drink. Denmark seems to be one of those countries, where you cannot order tap water. Fair enough. However, our water consisted of an open carafe (which I'm sure was tap water), for which we were charged 50 Krona ($8). This seems high for tap water.

Staff had a "I don't wanna be here attitude"... we were definitely a bother. Went for the burger,…read morecouldn't add cheese, staffed stated food was not made there, so no modifications. Settled on fried fish and shrimp croquettes (ok). We knew it was a tourist trap, but we were looking for better service. Great location on a beautiful day, if not for the excitement of being in the city... the staff could have destroyed it. On vacation, looking to order a drink, I was advised they only had what was on the menu... mind you, as you look around, the establishment next door was rocking a full bar! In my opinion, pick a trap with friendly inviting and help staff... not unless you like it that way!
