My first visit to this spectacularly beautiful town of Zermatt included a visit to Blatten Restaurant. I was impressed. And when I returned several years later, I wanted to repeat the visit.
Nestled high above town, literally on the ski and hiking run (piste) between Furi and Zermatt, Blatten Restaurant provides both, a wonderful apres ski destination, a superb lunch, and interrupted views of the Matterhorn. Blatten is located in a hundreds year old hamlet of old Swiss chalets and the atmosphere is one of relaxation and enjoyment.
As the restaurant has garnered an increasingly faithful following among repeat visitors, reservations are absolutely necessary. We arrived there way tired after a day at the challenging slopes of the Matterhorn Glacier and came to a full restaurant. The owner was nice enough to shuffle tables and seat us, but he made it clear that our table had a reservation two hours later. Yes, in the typical European fashion, people come here for lunch and stay until sunset, savoring the scenery and drinks. Our meals were excellent. Rosti, a typical Swiss dish, and pasta.
Excellent choice for a late afternoon lunch. read more
