An excellent restaurant to visit on the slopes. When we visited, I ordered my most favorite meal when traveling Zermatt. The porkbelly dish was absolutely incredible - so crispy, so juicy, and so good. There is outdoor seating, and if you're lucky like us, there is live music accompanied with a beautiful view of the Matterhorn and surrounding mountain. The service is very good and there are cute (and famous) dogs that wander around the property as well. Would totally recommend! read more

After a day of hiking, nothing tastes better than ice cold beer and delicious, lovingly prepared food. Alphitta is the place to go. Cheery, efficient staff deliver the goods. We were here in the summer. Huge outdoor seating area, pleasant breezes, enough shade for the sunny days...and, of course, views the world flocks to this region for. One problem: deciding what to order. Everything on the menu (food and drinks) makes you second guess yourself. My advice, order a lot. You just hiked! You need to consume some extra calories. Such an amazing place. Tanja and Dave have such a unique place with the best views of Matterhorn around. Their dogs are super friendly also (see pics). Their food was the best we had our entire time in Switzerland. The warm goat cheese salad was superb. They even had a great musician come and played guitar and sang songs. She took requests including two from my children which were Metallica followed by Jack Johnson...she said that has probably never been done before. read more

This is a fabulous restaurant that's so much more. We were with a group of eleven and ordered French onion soup, curry chicken, goat cheese salad and pork belly. Everyone loved their food and the Red Wine of the week was excellent. Our waitress was absolutely delightful, quick witted, fun loving and gorgeous. What a fantastic surprise discovering Alphtta, during our short trip to Zerat to see the Matterhorn last week. We were told by our concierge at the Schweizerhof Hotel to find this restaurant and we are so glad we did. I can't express to you what a beautiful view of the Matterhorn you get from there in their spacious outdoor deck. It is truly breathtaking. Tanja came out, and it was somewhat close to closing, and was so warm and generous in offering anything we wanted. We had goat cheese like I've never experienced before, and the flank steak, which were both soooo delicious. And Pepper and Bob Marley were perfect companions who sat with us after they were done taking pictures with others while we enjoyed our meal. The inside of the restaurant was also completely charming. This is a must not miss experience when going up to see the Matterhorn on the train. You must come down and partake in this wonderful experience that Tanja and crew deliver. My only regret is that we had to leave and couldn't stay longer and now that we're back in the United States, that we can't go back to get another meal. Really great place! Dave, Tanja, and their team were lovely hosts. The food was very good, and it was obvious that they care a lot and are always updating with new ideas. We ran into some bad weather and didn't get the great views that others have talked about it, but the indoor seating was still super cozy and charming. read more

Fantastic location! As you can see from the pics, the Matterhorn is eating lunch or dinner with you! It was great! We had a nice conversation, he's a pretty cool dude. The food wasn't quite as cool as the Matterhorn, but it was ok. The lasagna was like a massive block of massive lasagna-ness. If it had been perfectly cooked, it would have been a pretty flippin good lasagna. Unfortunately, part of it was a little cold, and part of it was really hot. It was delicious, but not cooked properly. If I came back, I'd be happy to order it again, but recommend that they pay attention to how it's heated My boyfriends spaghetti bolognaise was slightly bland, but not bad. Why 4 stars? Because we hung out with the Matterhorn, the service was excellent, and they didn't take advantage of the view with the prices- both dishes were 20 chf. read more

This is no greater location on Earth. The scenery from this restaurant is amazing, better view of the Matterhorn than from the Gornergrat! On top of that, the food and service are excellent. Tanja and Dave, the owners, were personable and interacted with their guests. For us this was more than a lunch, it was an experience that we will never forget. ....and thanks for the schnapps, a great way to end the meal. See you on my next trip. read more

I would give it 5 stars because it was pure heaven to get there after climbing down the Gornergrat. We were hungry and my feet were sore, so sitting down at sunny table with a dead on view of the Matterhorn was Heaven. The food was delicious but I think anything would have pleased our taste buds at that moment. The Rosti (a traditional Swiss potato dish) with ham and cheese was the table favorite. We also ordered Macaroni which was penne with tomato sauce and that hit the spot. We felt that a salad was necessary so we had the grilled chicken and it was all devoured. A perfect meal 3/4 of the way through a perfect day. I elected to hop on the train down to Zermatt (another hour and 15 minute hike) while my husband and kids finished strong. I highly recommend Restaurant Alphitta--and note it's just down a small hill once you have taken the trail to Riffelalp. there are 2 other restaurants that were part of a hotel which seemed much more fancy and expensive. read more
