10+ Years of Loyalty Dismissed Over Poor Customer Service and Lack of Integrity I've been a consistent customer of Resource Building Materials for over 10 years, frequently purchasing materials for both residential and commercial projects. Unfortunately, my most recent experience was deeply disappointing and has made me reconsider ever doing business with them again. On June 4, 2025, I purchased epoxy/resin products totaling $1,821.00 for a paver protection project at my home. These products turned out to be incorrect for the job, a mistake made by the contractor I hired. Wanting to resolve the issue properly, I attempted to return the unused and sealed materials on July 1, 2025--only 27 days after purchase, well within a commonly accepted 30-day return window. I spoke with Alexis, and later her manager Diego, who both demonstrated a stunning lack of professionalism. Initially, I was told flat-out that no refunds are allowed, which was surprising considering my long-standing relationship with the company. I calmly asked them to review the disclosures printed on the bottom of the receipt, which clearly state that returns are subject to a 25% restocking fee--not a total denial of return. Once I presented the facts, they pivoted and claimed the return was being denied because the purchase was made "over 30 days ago"--again, not true. I challenged them using the original purchase date and receipt, proving that only 27 days had passed. At that point, their excuse changed again: Diego questioned how they could know if the product hadn't been left outside in the sun. I found this completely unacceptable and insulting. For the record, the product has been sitting untouched in my garage, easily visible, stacked in sealed 5-gallon aluminum buckets. I immediately recognized them as unused materials and attempted to return them before any legitimate window would expire. This felt like an intentional effort to avoid issuing a refund or store credit--completely dismissing my long history of business with them. Rather than owning up to a poorly handled situation, they chose to pass blame, make false assumptions, and contradict their own return policy. There was no accountability, no willingness to resolve the issue fairly, and no appreciation for a customer who's spent tens of thousands of dollars over the years. And for the record, I do not like to leave bad reviews whatsoever. In fact, you can check my Yelp account--I don't leave bad reviews at all. It takes a lot to push me to this point, and for me to take the time to write this, you have to piss me off at least 10 times more than normal. That's how bad it was dealing with Diego and Alexis at Resource Building Materials. To say I'm disappointed is an understatement. This is not how you treat a loyal client. If this is the new standard of customer service at Resource Building Materials, I can no longer recommend them--and will be taking my business elsewhere moving forward. read more

They had what we needed but the guy who helped us in the office had a bad attitude. Since we don't landscape everyday, we asked for his help and he was annoyed that we were asking. WARNING- When buying artificial turf the display samples are substituted with inferior product with no knowledge to the consumer. ECO products are substituted with "Dream Series" which is far inferior. They will tell you it's the same. It is built differently, with different weight and strength. These guys are con artists and will try to fool you into accepting poor quality. No refunds, no help, no class. Go to other suppliers and protect your project! read more

I was looking for 1/2" - 3/4" black lava rock for my fire pit. Home Depot and Lowe's did not have what I was looking for. Resource Building Material had exactly what I needed. What can I say about Resource Building Materials located in Chino Hills! I fell in love with a photo on the internet of a stone fireplace. I had no name or anything to help me find where I can locate the stone. Somehow I managed to locate the distributor of the stone who connected me with Dave Cruz with Resource Building Materials. Dave was exceptional in helping me with the transaction. He went above and beyond to make sure I got exactly the stone I was looking for. This was my very first time here at Resource Building Materials in Chino Hills. I was very satisfied with the price and the friendly and helpful staff. I did not have a good day so I wasn't looking friendly but grumpy. I met ECTOR at the yard who told me to go ahead and pick out what I want. He came back and helped me to choose the boulders that I loved. ECTOR was incredibly helpful. He was so patient with me. Those boulders are heavy and I kept changing my mind about this one and that one. He wasn't upset when dealing with an old grumpy woman like me at all. He was there the whole time helping me to select my favoriten ones under the scorching sun without any complains but was amazingly helpful the whole and time. Thanks ECTOR for everything and for the special treatment and the souvenir. Then I went inside to pay. INO BELMAN friendly greeted me. We conversed a bit. He is very amicable and genuine which made my day so much better. I asked about the prices of various rocks. But did not buy much. He was not angry, or upset but super helpful. He made sure I was happy before leaving their place. Thanks for the free cold water INO.( I almost fainted under the super hot blazing sun). I was completely satisfied with the boulders, the cost and the staff 1000%. The cost was only a fraction of the price comparing to Lowe's and home Depot. Yes. INO and his staff are one of the kind. Purchased pavers, bought 10% over on their recommendation, tried to return about 7% of the pavers in perfect condition, they refused. Asked to talk to the manager, they said he's not here. I asked if they could call him, Peter and Anahi refused. I became upset but never said a bad word, just said I wouldn't shop here again. Went to the back to return pallets and bags of sand they oversold me. Anahi came outside to look at what I was returning and said I wasn't returning the 3-stone set I purchased. I corrected her and showed the 3-stone set, in perfect condition, unlike some of the damaged stones they sold me and I used for the cuts. She told me "don't talk to me that way" because I was upset and again I never used a bad word, just said what am I supposed to do with the extra stones? She said I'm just trying to help you return them. Ok, so now the games stopped. Bullsh@t. By the way, they profited on the original purchase and the 25% restocking fee for bringing a forklift over and lifting the pavers and pallets off my truck and setting them down by the other pavers to resell to someone else. I was in a pinch and didn't want to stand in the long lines of Home Depot. Resource is a local store that had any basics you need for a good price. They do have great selection (5 stars for selection), but I don't understand their business ethics. 1) I sent a quote request online for flagstone prices, never heard back from them. 2) I called up and asked for a few quotes and told them I would call them back with my order. (Gentleman was very nice). 3) Called the next day to place my order. A different gentleman told me that I needed an account with them and I asked if I could just pay over the phone and he said no, I would have to come into their office. Side note: I have twin 3-year old boys, so I try to do everything online, text or my last resort, on the phone. So I lug my twins there by myself one morning to get this taken care of. The gentleman behind the desks tells me that I need to pick out the pieces of flagstone I need. Um, what? There was no way I was going to be able to pick out 75 sq ft worth of flagstone with my twin boys there. I don't have a lot of time, I don't have a lot of help while my husband is at work, and I really need to get this project finished. But apparently, NONE of the people who work there care about customers that just want to place a small order and be done with it. My aunt and I went to pick up a U cart with a small amount of concrete the sales guy Rocky was a total DICK treated us like we were small children and was very cold and put out. He needs to learn some better customer service skills cuz his sucked also while helping us he was chewing chaw just very unprofessional I will never come back to this establishment again nor would I refer them either. I purchased some lacquer to darken the colored concrete for a bbq island counter project and the "wet look" lacquer didnt provide the hue of color we had hoped. I spoke to David and he dropped what he was doing to assist my wife and I! He provided his expertise on a concrete stain which would enhance the color of the concrete which we both greatly appreciated. When asked about how the stain would affect the "glass" specks in the concrete, he wasn't sure so he immediately phoned his rep. (Cesar) who provided additional expertise in preparation, application, and sealant. David accepted my return for the lacquer, without hesitation and we were assisted by a very sweet woman behind the counter (Anahi). I was given my money back (even though it was my error) and my wife and I walked away with the confidence we needed to tackle our project! Poor customer service. It never fails when I come into this place it's like I'm putting them out. Today was the last straw. The guys on the counter are jerks and don't have any manners. Picked up about 8 large pieces of quartz fieldstone. Everyone was super helpful. The forklift operator loaded the pieces we wanted onto a pallet, weighed it, and provided a ticket which we took inside to pay. He then loaded the pieces in the back of our truck. We were treated just as well as the builders picking up large orders. Will buy here again. read more
