Move In: - The virtual tour was completely accurate to the apartment I received - Easy process to pick up keys and do a virtual check in with maintenance to learn about all the features of the apartment - Parking the trailer to unload my belongings was easy and had no issues Living there for 2 Years: - Clean, updated apartment, spacious balcony, bonus storage unit off balcony, nice appliances, loved the fireplace feature in my unit - Greatly appreciated the amenities like trash valet, updated fitness facilities, 2 pools, grills for cooking, package lockers, plenty of parking, etc. - All staff from maintenance to the office team were always friendly and helpful - Quiet neighborhood, never felt unsafe, and really loved going for walks around the property as it is beautifully maintained - I don't own a pet but it is a very pet friendly complex, there is a dog park - Located within walking distance to Giant & Starbucks in the Centrewood Plaza and Centre Ridge Marketplace, near a bus stop, easy access to I 66, etc. - Lakeside frequently went above and beyond to host various events from gardening, to kids crafts to happy hours to food trucks The Neutral: - Rent increases--sadly that is just the reality of living in the area, their prices are comparable to others in the area as I did a lot of research before choosing them Move Out: - So sad to have to leave, only leaving due to need another location otherwise I would have continued my time at Lakeside. We got into a dispute with the on site manager about our $250 security deposit refund. She charged us a autopayment fee of $50 even though she was notified in plenty of time that we were terminating that method of payment for the partial last month (one week) that we resided in the unit. We paid by a physical check instead. Eventually, after much back and forth she refunded our money. The apartments are also way overpriced compared to the neighborhood. So avoid renting at the Jefferson at Fair Oaks until they hire someone who knows how to do the job.

Disclaimer: No one paid me to take this survey!!…read more I moved here July 2015 from Atlanta. I rented the one bedroom apartment via email and pics received from Mr. Ed who works in the leasing office. He was very attentive, and answered ALL of my questions and concerns!! Well in June 2016 it was time to sign a new lease! I like the apartments, the staff (Ed and Donna have really great attitudes), maintenance crew (Lew) and the upkeep so well I decided to move into a two bedroom within the same complex. The moving process was smooth, electronic, the new place was clean and I left the old place clean as well. I must admit that I have never smelled any smoke, I do not know if my neighbors smoke, but I have never smelled any funny smells. I can tell you that the apartments are older, so you will hear people who are heavy walkers prance across the floor, and you will hear their dogs bark. One would get use to the sounds after staying in the apartments after while. There is always enough parking and the parking spaces are wide enough. In Atlanta the spaces were so close my car was continuously being banged upon. That is not a problem here, and the believe it the leasing office do not play with people who park and do not live here. Emails will go out! The location is perfect and convenient to work, shopping, dining, gas, banking and medical facilities. As far as the noise is concerned, once they go to bed, it is normally my bed time also so I do not have a problem going to sleep or staying asleep. Now I did not give it 5 stars simply because as I said the apartments are older and the appliances are up to date (stainless steel and etc.) they could use a little upgrading such as bathroom fixtures, tile and etc. That is only I am comparing St. Johns to the last apartments I stayed in Atlanta had hardwood floors in the kitchen and etc. But hey you can't have everything! So Thank you Donna, Ed and Lew for all of your great service and responding to my inquiries, and/or just saying Hello!

I lived in Halstead for over three years, and if I hadn't needed to move out for my own personal…read morereasons I probably would still be there to be honest. For reference, I lived in Lotus; I don't have experience in the Lofts. Let's start with the pros of this place: - Really convenient access to the metro! It's like a 8 min walk to Dunn Loring Metro, and a 20 min Metro ride (not counting waiting, but that's not Halstead's fault!) into DC itself. - Really close to Mosaic, which has so many good restaurants and places to shop that even though I moved away I'm still finding myself back there on occasion. - It's within walking distance of a Harris Teeter grocery store. I didn't think I'd miss Teeter but I live near a Whole Foods now. I miss Teeter. - It's pretty quiet! You can't hear too much around you. Then again, I absolutely lucked out on my apartment being right next to the elevator. It's the little things, really. - There's a lot of good restaurants around within walking distance. Special shoutout to Jinya, Kiin Imm Thai, a new Shake Shack coming in, Pasty Xpo, and others I completely forget about but I'm sure they're good too and I'm sure I enjoyed eating them. Oh Colada Shop! Yeah that's a great place to have a good coffee and some empanadas. - The apartments are great. They're spacious, roomy and you can fit a LOT in there. Mine had a fantastic view of Mosaic, and I kind of miss it, since I'm now staring into an office building. I'm sure the people on the other side aren't thrilled at seeing me either, but thems the breaks. - The Playland is great if you want to grill, chill or just soak up some sun. - The staff is spectacular. Special shout-outs to Jasmine, Ann, and Beth, three of the best concierges whom I do miss deeply. They made my life so much more enjoyable, and they're such nice people and great to talk to. The fact they put up with me is a testament to their patience and kindness. - Though I hadn't gone to the gym or the basketball court since the world turned upside down, in the Before Times I quite enjoyed them. It was kind of fun to play hoops even though my coordination is that of an infant. - The maintenance team is top notch! They're very responsive and very nice. - When I had a slight dispute with my move-out (nothing major, so don't worry), the staff was courteous and the issue was resolved promptly. The leasing staff is very nice, though there's been turnover since I've been there so I never got to know them well enough. It happens in this industry and is pretty normal; it's not anything to worry about. So that's the good part. However, I do feel compelled to warn people about one particular aspect of this place, and that's the elevators. If I was given the ability to go back in time and change two things from the past, it's a pretty easy answer for me. First, I would kill Hitler before he could cause catastrophic damage (because come on, this is a layup and so much good would come from that) and I would fail the designers of this place in school so they never get their architecture license or whatever and watch their dreams crushed before my eyes. Whoever thought that it would be good to design a place that has ONLY two elevators for ~250 units, and one of them be the service elevator, which is frequently locked down for move-ins and move outs, was truly galaxy-brained. What this means is that only one elevator will be operational for the entire building at times. None of this is the current staff's fault; they didn't do anything to design this abomination. But it's something to keep in mind because you're gonna be waiting on weekends to go downstairs unless you take the stairs. God help you if you're on 6. Though I will say you'll get some really nice muscle definition and endurance training if you choose to walk up and down the stairs! But even with that, I would recommend leasing here. From the location to the staff to the myriad of things to do around there, it's really a wonderful place to be. I made a lot of memories there, and you can too. Trust me. Would a guy with a Bob Vila avatar lie? Absolutely not. So go! Rent here! Seriously I'm not kidding you should. Thanks for the memories, Halstead. I'll always treasure them.

I started moving small items by myself two days before the movers were scheduled to come with the heavy things. I felt immediately racially profiled by a parade of white tenants. They would invariably ask me if I lived there or whether I was delivering packages to someone else who lived there. The assumption, and hope, was that I was a delivery person and didn't live there. After numerous incidents of this, it dawned on me that most of these tenants lived through America's, and specifically Virginia's, Jim Crow Apartheid (Segregation) era. Thus, many of them may still harbor the attitudes of that time, which have been emboldened by the first and now second coming of Trump and his MAGA anti-Black/Muslim/LGBTQIA+/Immigrants of color movement which dreams of returning America to a Jim Crow-like era again. When my movers arrived two days later, they happened to be three Black men, neither known nor related to me. The tenants who were profiling me now turned on the three movers. They began questioning them and slowing them down costing me money. One particularly aggressive woman followed the movers to my apartment and was about to enter when she noticed me and my angry expression. I would not recommend this property to any African Americans/Blacks thinking of moving here. Moreover, I don't feel comfortable at Overture Fair Ridge due to an ongoing harassment campaign by the tenants in the apartment above me. In my opinion, the manager's response was to resort to a typical white fragility excuse that she has never seen any racial issues here and dismiss my complaints and request for an early termination of my lease. I'm too anxious to try the amenities. I even dred collecting my mail or packages from the Amazon Locker room. Be warned.
