The city of Battle Creek decided to change haulers from Waste Management to Republic starting April 1, 2021 and my pick up day is Monday. Garbage was not picked up and I have been calling every day since to br told that it will be picked up the following day. I have seen 2 of their trucks drive by my house One person I talked to said that the driver said that he did not see anything, what a big liar. My can has been at the end of driveway since Sunday night. Sad thing is my house is the only one on the block. I miss Waste Management already. I have been working with Republic services in the MA area for over 20 years and never really looked at my bill details as I was on autopay. Their services was quite good, so did not think much about the bills. Recently I happened to look at the bill details and observed that they were bumping my rates by over 10% ever year for the past several years with no warning or explanation! I switched to another company with similar service and reduced my rates by a factor of 3! The story does not end here though. Republic Services is super disorganized and slow to respond. I started new service recently. I received an email that I would receive my new trash and recycle bins on Friday. Well they only delivered the recycle bin. I called Republic and they stated they are "out of stock" of trash bins, but they would refurbish one and deliver it . Monday. So I had to wait another whole weekend with trash bags piling up in my garage. Fast forward to Monday and sure enough, they delivered a janky trash bin. Fine. Problem is, they also delivered ANOTHER recycle bin. So I called them back up and they said they would be happy to haul away the extra recycle bin.. in 8 days. So now I have three 96-gallon bins in my garage and I have to wait 8 days for them to come rectify their mistake. Not a great first impression. I used Rumpke in the past and I had that option again at my new house. I should have stayed with Rumpke. read more

They don't fulfill their promises, they charge you for things you don't get, and they have comically bad customer service so that resolving any issues becomes practically impossible. We called over a dozen times and they even said they would have corporate take care of it and nothing! They promised to fix the issue every single time and never did. Trash comes weekly, but only after calling to report a missed pickup so it always comes on a different day after you call, but eventually it usually comes. Start a contract, they never come for recycling and trash only when you harass them and they eventually feel like it. The county took over our route so I closed my account on June 26 before the next quarters billing cycle. Was told we had a zero balance...July 12 they take $130 from my account. This is illegal and wire fraud. They had no permission nor did I have auto pay turned in. Remember, my account had be closed and verified. Then I filed a complaint with my bank. They verified that Republic Services pulled the money, USAA did not send it automatically. As Republic Services was telling me it could take weeks to get my money back, USAA initiated an investigation and said if it is proven fraudulent then USAA would reimburse my account, just as if a credit card were stolen and used. On the same day 8 days later Republic Services and USAA put $130 in my account. USAA has said it is a permanent payment covered by my accounts financial insurance. Republic Services is now saying since USAA paid me they want the $130 back. Imagine that, my bank pays me for money republic services stole and now they have the nerve to say that they should get the stolen money back. To the point they have billed me the $130 now and have threatened to send to collections. You paid me my money, money you stole, money you didn't provide a service for! This company needs federally investigating. They are garbage. If you can go with another company do! read more

BEWARE! Don't use Republic Service! Beware that you will be charged $50 per container to have it removed if you cancel! I cancelled our service and our autopay (deleted credit card info even) and I still was charged on my credit card! I was even asked if I wanted to be sent a bill and I said yes. Representative also explained to me to go into my account and delete my info so I wouldn't be charged. Well, I never received a bill just a charge on my supposed to be deleted credit card. So frustrating! We didn't agree to these charges and were never notified about these charges when we signed up. Never had these type of outrages charges with other waste removal companies. They also are constantly raising their prices, and missing my pickup. We switched and now paying half of what we were with Republic Services. About 3 to 4 times every year, I have to send emails, place phone calls and deal with a run-around over missed pickups. Currently, they've missed four pickups and lied to me three different times, including a confirmation number for promised pickup (the third one they missed). If I ran my business the way Republic Services runs theirs, I'd be out of business in a week! Sadly, nobody at Republic Services seems to care. Apparently, they just received an exclusive contract for my area and it shows. Customer service is markedly worse since then and since I don't live in the city limits of the contract, the city won't even talk to me. They will however, send the county Sheriff out to fine me for NOT having my trash picked up. A national call center answers phone calls and processes complaints but there is NO followup whatsoever. Republic services cancelled all recycling pickups because of COVID... The issue is that no formal communication was made. I got to know it only we I called for service. I even made a miss-pickup last week and no-one reached out to me. Each homeowner in our subdivision has the recycling bin at the curb since at least two weeks. They are full and the recent wins carry trash everywhere. The minimum would have been to notify us in advance on the last pickup so they can empty their bin for a last time. But for those who believe in recycling, what option do we have other than switch to another company who can fulfill their agreements on contract signed... Since months, we have suffered delays and miss pickups... How interesting that if we cancel our contract, they have lot of high admin charges. read more

Pros: The few customer service agents I've had experiences with were kind and admittedly exhausted from the way their company does business. Cons: When we did have Republic they had missed trash pickup nearly half of the times they were scheduled to collect and randomly "out of the blue" decided they would no longer collect recycling which was at the time the reason I decided to go to republic. This is the worst company I have ever had the displeasure of purchasing any service from in my entire life. This has nothing to do with cost and everything to do with service. Not only did they charge me for months after I had canceled my service and moved to a new provider they acknowledged their mistake removed the charges, canceled my account (finally), and then sent me ANOTHER bill which I COULD NOT PAY online because my account was closed... The pickup service was fine, but the cost is outrageous compared to other companies. The also charge you a drop fee of $50 and if you cancel a pickup fee of $65 just to get the old container. Other companies just want your business and appreciate it. read more

Unethical business practices. My business signed a contract with republic that auto-renewed yearly. The first year, pricing and service was fine. AFTER the contract auto renewed, they increased pricing 20%. Their process for cancellation requires certified mail. They do not provide you an address to send it to, only a PO Box on your invoice. I have sent emails, spoke to customer service, spoke to my account representative, and sent certified mail (that displays as received by their receptionist over 10 days ago) to request cancellation. They claim not to have received it. They indicate that they will not start the process until they receive it. Their process is two months long, and they indicate that they will charge me for not completing this second year's contract. WHAT A COMPLETE SCAM! So unethical to change pricing and then trap customers. In 19 years of owning a small business, I've never dealt with anyone so unethical. Every time I call all they tell me is they already picked it up. Even though I am standing there staring at this eye sore of a dumpster on our property. If I could leave zero stars I would. What an absolute joke of a company. 8 months ago they cancelled our recycling service with very little warning and took our can. Then 6 months ago we decided to switch to another company and called to cancel our service. They assured us they would handle it. What a lie that was. We've since called at least 6 times to try to cancel and were told each time that our account was closed and yet every payment cycle we had a charge from them. They FINALLY came and picked up their can a couple weeks ago after we begged them to come get it. Imagine my surprise when I saw another $80 charge on my account a week later. My fiance called them today and they had the gall to say it was a recycling charge since we never closed that service. They so kindly offered to refund that charge (please note my sarcasm, nothing this company does is kind or helpful), but only for the last charge. We live in Alvarado, TX. We used to have our trash picked up by Area Waste Management and Republic took them over. We had them for about 2 years, and they sent us a billing increase of over $20 more a month. I called to cancel the service. They said all I needed to do was cancel by July 29, 2020. I did that. Then they said they needed a written notice. We provided that and had to pay an extra month. Numerous phone calls and emails later, they finally picked up the dumpster. It took them over 2 months to pick it up. Now they have sent us a bill for $200 plus for removal of their dumpster. Unbelievable. Discontinuing their service has been a nightmare. Our experience started out great! My husband called to order a 30 yard dumpster to remove yard debris. When he spoke with a person at the office to set up the delivery, he told them specifically that we would be removing sod, dirt, rocks, etc. They said 'no problem.' They even said we could 'easily' drive a bobcat into the dumpster if needed. The day the dumpster arrived we had to sign a contract that said it could only be half way full if we did yard debris (new to us the day of delivery). We signed and moved on as we had rented a bobcat for the day which set up back several hundred dollars. By the end of the day we knew we were slightly over half...oops...our bad. We certainly expected and extra charge for that but we didn't have time to order another one that day (Friday) and we had to return the bobcat on Monday. And..we didn't know about the half full until it showed up at the house..... When they came to pick it up the next week they couldn't move it at all. It was too heavy. Look I know that we overloaded it slightly over half but why would you even bring that dumpster knowing what we are planning on doing with it? After they tried to move it once, it was determined that we would have to have another dumpster delivered and pay for someone to offload some of the debris into the new dumpster. That cost us an extra $800. WOW. They also made us prepay for that service because...well that's obvious. Its an unplanned expense and they want to get paid! After that my husband and I were just glad to get it over with ($1,200 later). We thought it was pretty expensive to get rid of organic material from the back yard?! About a month later we receive another $661.40 bill from Republic Service to our surprise. I thought at first this has to be a mistake. I couldn't really tell though because I couldn't make sense of the bill at all. I called them to get an explanation...I just wanted to know why they would make us pay up front for the expense and then send another bill? The first lady I spoke with put me on hold.....hold....hold....and then said she would have to take my name and number to call me back. Two weeks approx went by and I tried again. I spoke with another lady (cannot remember if it was the same person) and the same thing happened. At that time I mentioned I had called and tried to get someone to explain the bill. They didn't apologize or offer the explanation I was looking for. Instead, 'we have to give you a call back because the lady who can answer your question is busy at the moment." I thought, ok cool, finally I will get the explanation I need. NOTHING!!! Finally my husband and I are on our way to the beach when they call us to let us know our account if VERY past due. Obviously I was furious. I call them back to speak with a lady who was very rude, not apologetic at all and had the audacity to say, 'you can see your charges on you bill." After approx a 20 min conversation with this rude lady, she finally gave me an explanation of my bill. Once I heard, i wasn't relieved. I found out that it costs that extra 600 dollars because each of the dumpsters were 'over weight.' How much are they supposed to weigh? Why were we so off? She explained that we didn't throw away yard debris (no rocks, dirt, etc are not considered yard debris)...This is not in the contract. When I asked for her to send me this info her reply was, 'it can be found on the internet.' Moral of the story...you should know that you cannot over load the bin (even though they dont say anything until they get to your place), you should know that yard debris isn't dirt and rocks (hmmm), you should know that before the dumpster is delivered you may be overweight with debris but you won't be told what that number is, and dont expect sympathy for their bad customer service because its your fault you didn't look on the website after you signed the contract....my bad. Oh and when we scheduled the appointment and told them what we were doing, nothing was said. There was no way that bobcat was driving up on to the dumpster because it was over 1 foot above the ground with no ramp. Luckily we didn't need it anyway... $1,800 later we threw away our organic dirt, rocks and sod. WORST EXPERIENCE EVER!! read more

My previous company (who I had been with for years) was bought by Republic Services and unbeknownst to me I was now in business with the mob, or at least that is how it feels. Every few months they hike their rates up between 5%-18%. Trying to stop the contract from auto-renewing is more difficult and painful than a root canal. And even once you have done everything according to the letter of their contract to stop service they continue to call and harass you and do not respect our right to chose a different service provider. I literally got 2 separate phone calls, from 2 different people 2 days in a row. DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE USE REPUBLIC SERVICE!! I wish they are better... Constantly misses or improperly does pickups. EVERYTIME I have scheduled an additional pickup because they missed or improperly provided service, it gets missed again. I'll call for a status and get some explanation and runaround, which eventually leads to my trash not getting picked up. I'll have to wait for their "normal" route to get trash picked up. This is happened to me at least a dozen times already between recycle and regular trash in the last two years. I stopped my garbage service in the middle of May because I was moving to California. I have had a credit owed to me of $47.21 since May 31st. At least 20 phone calls to Republic Services hearing many excuses why I haven't received my credit. The last two phone calls I asked for a manager. Cindy (customer service manager) was supposed to call and I still haven't heard from anyone. This is the worst customer service I've ever had! It's been 6 months since I moved. What is their problem? I am the treasurer for our condo board and put our account on autopay a year and a half ago. Some months the autopay just turns off for no reason and we get an alert for nonpayment. The "past due" amount is not added to the next month's bill so I have to call and pay over the phone...because the website does not actually give you the option to pay online. Hitting "Pay Bill" just takes you back to your pick-up calendar. Customer Service is pleasant but not trained on anything involving the website, and I was told there is no support line specifically for the website. No one who answers the customer support line has any idea why our autopay stops and starts, so no one can fix that for me. read more

This is a terrible service. My CC got cancelled due to theft so then they charged me a late fee when the autopay did not go through. My neighbor also gave me a big can. Inexplicably, one day Republic took my can for no reason. It did not belong to them. Then, when I've finally had enough of their shoddy service we cancel and go to a mom and pop vendor and then Republic wants to then charge me a $48 dollar fee to pick up their own container. So they want to charge ME to pick up THEIR can. On top of that I'm being billed through the end of the month and so since I am being billed I asked them to pick up the can during my billing period since they have to pick up anyway. Instead they want to pick up the can AFTER my service period ended so that they can then hit me with that fee. These people are unbelievable. read more

To begin, I have been using them for a few years and have never missed or been late on a single payment, so it's not like I missed a bill. They have however increased their rates and their performance has been horrible. Last week, our trash was supposed to be picked up on Wednesday (our usual pickup is Tuesday, but because of Labor day it was delayed by a day). Our can has been out at the street since Monday evening (my teenager forgot it was delayed a day, but it was out there for them to pick up). I emailed them on Thursday of last week to tell them the trash had not been picked up. I called on Friday and was first told that they would be coming on Monday, but finally got them to agree to pick it up on Saturday. Saturday comes and goes with another phone call made to them, and they tell me that it will be picked up on MONDAY. I called them on Monday morning and they told me that it was going to be picked up THAT DAY. That afternoon, they still had not come and I called again, to find out that it was NEVER SCHEDULED! I called again this morning (TUESDAY) and was told they were coming, but it was going to be a two hour delay! Stay far, far away from this company. We've been with Republic Services since they bought out Independent Sanitation and Recycling last year. We've never had a problem or a complaint until a recent snow storm. We had around 8" of snow on the ground the morning of our weekly (Thursday) garbage pickup and it was also our once monthly recycling pickup day. We went on the Republic's website and checked our account to see if routes were canceled and all appeared to be normal so we drove our garbage and recycling cans down to the end of the driveway. At 2pm we received a text saying that they were canceling the remaining stops for the day and we would be serviced on the next service day. We were confused by this poor wording since it could be interpreted to mean the next business day or OUR next service day the following week. We called to ask for clarification and couldn't get ahold of anyone and we left a voicemail with no reply. I brought the cans back down Friday morning at 6 am in case the next service day meant the next day. The cans sat there all day Friday and never were picked up so I assumed this meant the pick up was pushed back to next Thursday. That next Thursday I brought both cans down and only the garbage was picked up. I called that evening to ask when the recycling was going to be picked up because it was missed and she said she'd send someone to pick it up tomorrow. I left the recycling can at the end of the driveway overnight, no one picked the recycling up the next day. Our recycling was finally picked up today, a month later. We never received a credit for a missed garbage and recycling pick up. We are switching to a local company that clearly communicated with their customers during that snow storm by posting on social media at 4 am that they were canceling routes for the day and people would receive a credit for a missed pick up and they would push any missed routes back to the following week. They showed clear communication and a credit for missed services. Neither of which matter to Republic. After we called Republic to cancel our services they tried telling us we miscommunicated with them when we asked about our missed recycling pick up because they said our account showed we requested a cancellation on our recycling pick up. I couldn't have been any clearer when I called and asked when our recycling was going to be picked up because it was missed, why would she say they would pick it up tomorrow (they didn't) if she thought I wanted to cancel service? They also tried telling us "you know you only have recycling picked up once a month right" yes we are well aware of that, the storm happened to be on our recycling pick up day. read more
