Convenient and easy to work with. Was not too busy when I was there the last couple of times.

This transfer station has been here a loooooonnnnnnngggggg time. Grew up here in the '60s, it was a little different back then. But this configuration has been pretty static. There are recycling stations up front to use that are free. Glass/paper/metal. If you're bringing trash, you'll get weighed, handed a card, you drive up, find a spot, back in, and toss your trash. Kinda fun. Smelly. The minimum fee is $33. Not sure where the bubble is as far as weight, but I didnt break it so it was just $33 for my truckload of stuff. Friendly service. Easy to use. read more

This is more fun and probably cheaper than axe throwing. If you need to release some steam and have things to get rid of, this is the place. Park your stuff next to the pit and toss your stuff in, heavy, throwable, whatever...it's deeply therapeutic and satisfying, especially when they run the contractor and give your things an added crunch to go with your goodbyes. Do wear waterproof footwear as there is a puddle near the edge. Don't fall in or it will become a scene from Star Wars! read more

Usually I have no problem at this place. I was trying to unload recycle cardboard boxes this morning and I was it was full. This is fine so I left and called later and said it was open now. I showed up 11:50 and the truck that switched out the container left. At check in older blonde lady said it will be 5 mins. 15 pass by and I go back to the check in window and asked if it was open and she said no and I asked why. She said it just needs to follow process. All I see is them two ladies chatting and looking at their phones. It is now 12:25 pm and still not open. This place is pretty quick and easy to maneuver and dispose of your waste and trash. The workers at the front are very kind and actually helped me out by notifying me that it would be cheaper to dispose of the trash and then pay for that and return to dispose my pallets separately. It's usually not busy compared to the other ones I've been to. Overall it's always a pretty good experience and haven't had a bad one yet. If You live in the area and are in need to dispose your trash this is the place to go! read more

These 5 stars are only for the 2 folks at the checkin / checkout booth. A guy and gal were running the booth and both were awesome. Knowledgeable about what I can and can't dump and where to take the specialty things for proper disposal. Plus they are sooo pleasant. The lazy turd up at the dump site gets one star. I had 2 super light twin mattresses that I set aside because I saw mattresses stacked next to the pit. I was concerned they didn't want them in the pit? Maybe they took up too much room? Also I had a small filing cabinet that was all metal. Thought they would want to recycle it? The lazy turd wasn't around when I had the question. So I left and went to pay. I pulled up to the booth and the 5 star employee got a message down from the pit. The lazy zero star turd at the pit was throwing a tantrum and wanted me to drive back up and put the two mattresses and little cabinet in the pit. Lol!! So I paid the nice lady and drove back up and in under 10 seconds simply tipped the items into the pit. Not sure who they thought they hired but either they are afraid to touch garbage or the lazy turd was just trying to prove a point with his tantrum. The location is always clean, line moves fast, great location, and 5 star people at the pay booth. read more

The people that work at this location are kinda helpful. Just make sure you have your load completely covered. Otherwise you'll get a $25 fine. This is located a few blocks from where I live. So it's pretty convenient. read more

Does the world need the local dump - excuse me, transfer station - to be reviewed and rated on Yelp? Maybe no, but I'm here to do it anyway. You're welcome. I am not the world's handiest person when it comes to things like home improvement and related services, and typically I call a service like Got Junk to deal with my trash removal issues. But this time, all I had was one mangled office chair to deal with, making both curbside pickup and a junk removal service very cost ineffective. So, off to the dump I went. There's a first time for everything. The process is pretty painless. You drive your vehicle onto a scale at the entrance, and get a card with the weight programmed in. The clerk was friendly and helpful, and explained that you either pay for the full weight or the $22 minimum fee, so there would be no surprises that it cost so much to dispose of, basically, one chair. Driving up to the ramp was a little nerve wracking, though it's all very well marked, and when you get to the actual loading zone, it's super nerve wracking to maneuver around all these vehicles to back into the spot where you'll toss your trash overboard. I had to wait while someone awkwardly maneuvered a trailer into a spot - fortunately there was plenty of staff to help guide the driver. That same staff was quite helpful when it was my turn to find my way out. When you leave, you drive across a second scale, and either pay for the calculated weight of the trash, or the minimum fee. The whole thing only took a few minutes, and everyone was so helpful, that it really is a cost-effective solution to dispose of junk, as long as you have the right vehicle to get it there. read more

This is my favorite transfer station. It's nearby and it doesn't smell that bad.

This place is a dump, but a nice one. It's sad, but I've been to a lot of dumps on my time. I like this one a lot actually. They have nice stuff like gloves (for when you forget your own) and brooms to sweep out the back of your truck. It's fairly cheap and a nice drive though Bridle Trails to get there. Also, they have a good system that allows a lot of people to use it at once. The only real problem is the line to get out takes a while. Other than that, it's not to shabby for a dump. read more

Just dealt with the nastiest employee at the Houghton transfer station we showed up at 3:30 in the same truck and small trailer we have used recently to dump trash. The lady said no you are two feet over our 30 ft limit go to the factorial station they are open till 4:30. She flat out lied it closed at 4. We drove 40 minutes into town another 20 to factoria and accomplished nothing but taking the load home again read more

Just took my first trip to the dump! If you don't know me, then you don't know how much I love "making trash." It's part of my OCD disorder. I run around the house looking for things to toss. So imagine my excitement when we hauled 3 loads of remodel garbage and debris to the Houghton transfer station. We pulled the truck up into our spot. Up top of our platform a cargo container awaited below. I squeeled with glee as I chucked a knicked up sink basin down the hole. It stank like garbage juice but it was awesome. read more

Great place, clean, I feel very lucky to have a transfer station so close to my house. Besides, I would rather have this station available then the alternative of someone dumping it in the woods or possibly some ones side yard. thank you for the great job you do. read more

The place is nice but the two rude ladies working the drive up we're totally bothered when they had to do their job. I waited at the window wy the overweight, lazy nag flipped through her news paper. When I asked her a question, 'did you hear what I just said'. I found her to be very rude and lazy. Then I'm quite sure they charged me double as I have never paid more than the base rate and ended up paying double. They no longer recycle as they say it cost to much. I say fire the rude and lazy people and hire a monkey to do her job. read more

I've put up with the long wait times and ungodly stench for decades, and my father and his father used to shoot rats at the original landfill, but I must say that raising the rates 10% and reverting back to dial-up credit card authorization was the final nail in the coffin. The location is super convenient, and I'm a little nostalgic, but the place is a disaster and needs to close. I won't miss it. read more
