It entailed: removing and/or pruning some of the existing plants, planting new ones, removing the existing irrigation drip lines + installing new ones, a new water valve, and installation of new edge stoning. From the time I contacted John, he was prompt in responding, setting up a time to meet with me, and providing a recommendation. John was very professional, communicative, and his pricing was very fair and transparent. Throughout the project, John and his crew went above and beyond, providing additional value. For a simple (but big) fencing project, I got 4 quotes from companies that were well-rated on Yelp. John was very easy to communicate with, came out right away with his assistant, and provided a timely quote. I have a large and unique garden so John and I had a very good chat about the work I've done on it. I think he is genuinely very passionate about what he does. The price per foot (same materials, design) were: $120, $145, $179, $222. I've found that when it comes to fencing and landscaping, there is a huge range of vendor prices (and personalities!) So it's best to get multiple quotes. John was the $179 quote, but he followed up with me and offer to renegotiate the price after learning he was on the higher end. I feel that he would have done a good job, but my neighbor and I were also happy with the other quotes we received. read more

John Reppard and his foreman Juan did an excellent job with our landscaping needs - we wanted to remove weeds, plant new flowers and shrubs, and put in a palm tree in our backyard. Their quote was the most competitive one we received, and they did a great job working with us to set up our garden exactly as we wanted. They also installed irrigation for us to make sure that the plants would thrive and set up proper drainage in the backyard. John and Juan were easy to work with, super hardworking, professional, detail-oriented and flexible with our requests. In an age and place where standards for quality and detailed services have tanked; and the Bay Area community has adapted to sub-par to mediocre results and products, one feels fortunate to find a shining star in the rough. John and his partner, Carlos do their business upholding the timeless virtues of quality workmanship, attention to detail, deadlines, lack of both ongoing project "surprises," and project-change order hostage holding, friendly and communicative interfacing, all at reasonable rates. This explains why John is a busy guy, and also is selective in which projects he takes on. I got lucky, as John had never re-built a vintage greenhouse prior, and mine was old, rotting, and on its last legs. The results were impressive. Despite such setbacks such as Carlos's hand injury, inclement weather, electrical outlet failures, generator fumes, and vintage greenhouse construction proving a more arduous and complex task than initially thought, John and Carlos powered through and finished leaving things looking sleek, tidy, and fine-tuned. My fiancé and I had an inconvenient water leak on one of our outside sprinklers that was spraying water all over and out into the street. We shut off our water and proceeded to look for sprinkler repair ASAP- on a Sunday! Yikes! John responded quickly to my Yelp message request and estimate, and was at our house the next morning with his assistant Carlos. He troubleshot the problem, installed an additional sprinkler shut off valve, and replaced the broken sprinkler component. His rates were reasonable and the work was done well. read more

I highly recommend John's team at John Reppard's Landscaping. We needed a landscape contractor who could execute our landscape architect's design, and they delivered. They completely transformed the street-side frontages of our corner lot from grass to an enclosed, lower-water use landscape. They built us a decomposed gravel walkway with flagstones, a beautiful redwood fence with swing gates (fence credit goes to Juan, his very creative and skilled foreman), raised redwood planter beds with new soil, and mulched/installed scores of new plants including a fruit tree. They also upgraded us to a new smart irrigation timer and laid out multi-zone drip irrigation, helping us lower our EBMUD water bill. John's team was flexible throughout and offered informed recommendations whenever we encountered unclear direction from our architect's plan. Even after the work was completed, John and Juan came by to check that our plants were growing as they should and made sure the irrigation system was working properly. We were very happy with John and his team as they upgraded our front and back yards, following a landscape architect's design. John worked with us to modify the project to fit our budget and his foreman, Juan, made great suggestions that we hadn't even considered such as widening the stairs leading to our backyard. Juan and his team worked at lightening speed and long hours to clear our yard of overgrowth, prepare the soil, plant native trees and plants, as well as rebuild a rock wall and and create a new paver path in the front and flagstone path in the back. Juan and his team also built a beautiful trellis that is now holding back heavy vines, creating a natural fence between our yard and our neighbors. They also built beautiful planter boxes and installed a new irrigation system and lighting. There were a few times when I felt the team was not following the landscape architects plan precisely but we were able to discuss with Juan and get things on track again. Juan was very friendly and adjusted everything to our liking. The owner John was friendly and professional but not at the site much. His designer, Alexandra, was very helpful on site and also made excellent suggestions such as clearing dead trees and the addition of the large trellis and a few smaller ones as well. The stones had previously set in dirt (by a different landscaper), with the idea that cute little plants would grow in the cracks. John Reppard of Reppard's Landscaping recently replaced a very large wood planter that he made over twenty years ago. The original container was so well made that it lasted a long time and it was actually still in very good condition. The main reason I had it replaced was that the new deck (that someone else built) did not match the planter. John had a great idea to incorporate a bench on top of the planter. The new planter now has two functions . . . it encases a large beautiful Magnolia tree and it also serves as a place for people to relax and sit under the tree. John's price was reasonable and he completed the job well before the deadline. I had so much confidence in his work that I left for vacation and came back to a gorgeous new bench/planter. Before I left, he showed me a beautiful colored stain that goes perfectly with the brick in my backyard. He is both a talented artist and a skilled craftsman. He also had some great ideas for my front yard.
