Decomposed granite in the tree wells.
Dianne M.

John, Juan and the rest of the crew have turned our yard into a barren pile of weeds into a beautiful landscape. They are fast, fairly-priced, and work clean. Couldn't ask for more.

John has helped me out with a few garden tasks since he installed the garden a few years ago. He just repaired some drip lines for me so I thought I'd update with new photos showing how the garden has filled in.

In an age and place where standards for quality and detailed services have tanked; and the Bay Area community has adapted to sub-par to mediocre results and products, one feels fortunate to find a shining star in the rough. John and his partner, Carlos do their business upholding the timeless virtues of quality workmanship, attention to detail, deadlines, lack of both ongoing project "surprises," and project-change order hostage holding, friendly and communicative interfacing, all at reasonable rates. This explains why John is a busy guy, and also is selective in which projects he takes on. I got lucky, as John had never re-built a vintage greenhouse prior, and mine was old, rotting, and on its last legs. The results were impressive. Despite such setbacks such as Carlos's hand injury, inclement weather, electrical outlet failures, generator fumes, and vintage greenhouse construction proving a more arduous and complex task than initially thought, John and Carlos powered through and finished leaving things looking sleek, tidy, and fine-tuned. I have to thank John and Carlos and hope they will be available to work with me again down the road.

After

Super responsive outfit that did a great job, exactly what I wanted, in just two days. Here are before and after photos.

Crushed granite, flagstone, tree, and plantings

I highly recommend John's team at John Reppard's Landscaping. We needed a landscape contractor who could execute our landscape architect's design, and they delivered. They completely transformed the street-side frontages of our corner lot from grass to an enclosed, lower-water use landscape. They built us a decomposed gravel walkway with flagstones, a beautiful redwood fence with swing gates (fence credit goes to Juan, his very creative and skilled foreman), raised redwood planter beds with new soil, and mulched/installed scores of new plants including a fruit tree. They also upgraded us to a new smart irrigation timer and laid out multi-zone drip irrigation, helping us lower our EBMUD water bill. John's team was flexible throughout and offered informed recommendations whenever we encountered unclear direction from our architect's plan. Even after the work was completed, John and Juan came by to check that our plants were growing as they should and made sure the irrigation system was working properly. We are very pleased with the outcome and would recommend him without hesitation if you need an experienced contractor to execute your landscape plan.

Happy with our new sturdy fence that was done on time as promised!!! Thanks so much Reppard's!

We had an amazing experience working with John and his team. They completely transformed our backyard over the last several weeks and we could not be more thrilled with the results. We are still pinching ourselves that this is our yard and feel like we gained a new room in our house! John and his foreman, Juan, had great recommendations throughout the project to ensure that the end result was exactly what we wanted. The quality of their work is top notch and far exceeded our expectations. We are so glad that we chose to work with them. He built strong trust with us from the initial design stage, in which he patiently popped over three times to answer questions and make adjustments. This is our first house and this was the biggest project we've taken on - John and his team made it a fantastic experience and helped put our minds at ease throughout the project. We can't recommend them highly enough!

Before photo

I had a very neglected side yard that needed a lot of love. John was super responsive and quickly booked time to come over. He really listened to me and worked with not just my ideas but budget. His team was phenomenal and when options weren't available John communicated right away and offered solutions. The crew did the job professionally and quickly. I would hire them again in a heartbeat.

But Lara and the crew were able to meet these challenges head on, and found ways to optimize time so we were not bogged down with extra spend. We completely overhauled our back yard, from an overgrown mess to a yard we could be proud of, and most importantly, safe for our kids. Lara was great in understanding we had kids, and she helped in choosing materials that would work well to reduce or eliminate chemicals or difficult/sharp surfaces. Same goes for plant selection, equally good for our kids and dog so nothing with poisons, and lots of fun edibles for the kids to easily pick off an eat. Without a doubt, I highly recommend Bountiful Botanicals for your project, both large and small. They can take on any challenge and have the skills within the team to get any project completed. They had a near perfect rating and were praised by pleased clients. After contacting Juan, he came over almost immediately to provide a quote. I wanted to update my high maintenance, overgrown front yard with low maintenance, drought tolerant plants and pavers. Juan listened to my ideas and provided his own useful knowledge. They were the right group for the job! Shortly afterwards, I also met Michael, the Project Manager. He and Juan manage several work teams that we got to see in action over the next several months. Workers were here religiously 5-6 days a week; usually starting around 9am and working usually until after 5pm in good weather and bad. The teams work incredibly hard and are extremely skilled in all facets of yard construction. Any concerns or glitches were met by almost immediate response by JV, whether or not the request came during the course of the work day. I was extremely impressed when Michael came by late one evening during pouring rain to clear water backing up onto the street and sidewalk due to equipment left at the curb. Near the completion of my front yard, I started to talk with Juan and Michael about completing the backyard and sides as well. They continued the pavers from the front with a backyard patio and paths on the sides. My old redwood deck was replaced with a composite deck and wood pergola, artificial grass, maintenance shed and complete lighting. Roxanne, their plant specialist, listened to my plant suggestions and designed a yard full of interesting plants to meet my requirements. Even though the job is now complete, JV wants to make sure customers remain satisfied. Many of my new plants were planted during the winter, and as I live in a frost zone, I was unsure of what would survive the winter. I'm pleased to say that only one type of flower planted in the front yard appears to be struggling, but Michael has already said they would be replaced if they didn't survive until spring. It's that type of customer follow through that makes JV Gardening amongst the best in their field. Now that my whole job is complete, I'm very happy that I used JV for the job. I truly think I made the best decision by hiring them!

This was a technically challenging project involving a steep hill and very mature redwood roots. Standout qualities of this company are: 1. Ease of quoting process Before coming out in person, they were able to give us a ballpark price based on dimensions, fence type, and site images. This allowed me to decide whether to move forward and I thought this was really respectful of my time. Then, Dago, the owner, came for the site visit and to discuss details. 2. No bait and switch In ironing out the details, there was some miscommunication about whether staining was included. Dago was able to meet us halfway with the price increase. This honest business style continued throughout the project and no change orders or unexpected price increases happened. 3. Detail oriented Throughout the project, we discussed details such as fence posts placement relative to tree roots, post height, etc. Dago was both available in person and by email via his assistant Maria. It was also nice to have responses confirmed in writing so that things were clear and there would be no bait and switch. 4. Personality Dago is a really nice person and I enjoy speaking with his about his geriatric dogs, etc. This also helped me not feel anxious about the project, because I felt that I could trust him. For this fence, we received multiple quotes. Two companies were in the $9-10K range, another was around $12K, and an outlier was above $20K. Dago's price was the lowest quote (with minute differences in material) and we are very glad we went with him!

Their labor and craftsmanship were good. However, the way this business operates is extremely concerning. Even though the scope was clearly defined both verbally and in writing, the owner later tried to change the terms of the estimate, claiming parts of the agreed-upon work were "mistakenly included." Throughout the process, there were multiple "gotcha" moments, surprise clarifications, shifting explanations, and attempts to downplay what was originally promised. Despite the written estimate explicitly listing a "mulch + small brick installation (combined)", the brick installation was never completed. When I followed up, they claimed it had been a "mistake" in the estimate and refused to honor that part of the agreement. Communication became defensive, taunting, and unprofessional, and rather than resolve the situation collaboratively, the owner sent a $300 refund before we had even reached an agreement, then canceled my ongoing maintenance service altogether. It's disappointing, because the work quality itself was solid. But their business ethics and communication practices are sketchy. They seem more focused on short-term profit than building long-term relationships or standing by their written commitments. They told me the brick feature would enhance the look of my garden. I guess I'll never find out. If you decide to hire them, make sure every detail is documented and signed. Otherwise, expect last-minute changes and confusion about what you actually paid for.

While we thought it a bit strange…read morethat we had a different crew out most every time, we were assured by Tamara that she had communicated what needed to be done - she was managing the crew. This method seemed to work mostly, although we had to tell the crew each visit what to do, as mostly instructions had been partially communicated. One day, she sent two new people. We told them to trim two bushes on the stairwell and to pick up the leaves, nothing else. This was also communicated to Tamara a few days prior, but like most times, the crew seemed clueless as to what to do. When they were done and had left, we discovered that they had BUTCHERED our garden - most of five++ years of growth was cut away and in a most unappealing fashion. Her crew ripped out plants that a previous crew had installed only a month prior, had trimmed four bushes that were covering an unsightly wall into lollipop shapes, completely exposing the wall, trimmed new growth off of once per season budding plants without any care for shape or aesthetics, butchered slow growing manzanita plants that may never recover, etc etc etc. We were appalled and contacted her. Tamara responded to our concerns, but would not or could not take personal or financial responsibility for making us whole. She told us that the crew she sent was inexperienced and had never worked on a personal, mature garden (only on storage facilities and office complexes), and that she did not have the $$ to replace the plants destroyed or to pay for someone else to replace the plants (as we told her that we could not work with her anymore). We thought about going to the CSLB so that we could at least recover her bond, but did the time/money calculus and finally settled on her paying for two plants to be replaced, at another landscaper's wholesale cost (approx $500). So far, it has cost us over $10000 to get the garden back to where it was, and it will take a few years for it to look as good as it did prior to November 2025. We tried to support this independent, woman-owned business; but her model of a different crew every time coupled with an inability to run her business in a fiscally responsible manner makes it impossible for us to recommend her to ANYONE
