This place has great pizza, food, service and atmosphere. It is a neighborhood jewel.

Let me start by saying I ordered a pizza recently and it was SUPERB! The drinks, SUPERB!! So let me explain the lack of the 5th star. One of the pizza makers/cooks (there were two) had a beard--longer than stubble but not long enough to grab--maybe a half inch all around. We were a party of more than one person. Now let me tie that together...while waiting for the pizza to be made, I noticed (I'll call him beard guy) beard guy scratch his beard a few times. After he scratched, he'd get back to working the dough. I was like "EWWWWWW!!!" I wanted to leave but told myself that 1) maybe he's not working on MY pizza and 2) if he is, it's going in the oven and that will pretty much kill any bacteria/germs although it won't do anything for hair if any got transferred in his nails. Then there were the drinks. Like I said, the drinks were SO GOOD BUT when the bartender was adding ice, she was adding with one hand and using the other to make sure the ice bounced off her hand (bare) and went in the glass. I really didn't like that because you can't cook that away. It wasn't going to kill me and I just looked past it but I didn't like her method. I think she could have tilted the glass over the ice about 45 degrees and brought the ice scooper to the glass and caught most of the ice that way, with no bare hands involved. So again, amazing pizza and drinks. I WOULD definitely go back but probably sit with my back to the kitchen so I don't witness any unsanitary goings on in the future. However, it would really be great if they tweaked the ice-pouring-in-the-glass method and if beard guy used his shoulder to scratch his beard rather than using his bare fingernails and going right in the pizza dough and toppings. read more

started the evening off with a sweaty evening run with this really cool guy and he was like "wanna get pizza" and i was like "yeah" cuz he had a really stressful day and he really likes pizza. I had never been to Renzo but boy oh boy was it a treat. We got a caesar salad (my fav), the fried korean chicken and the wrath of kahan (his fav). Ok one thing about the guy- he's a little camera shy- we'll call him Russ, but just imagine a really handsome fella behind the emoji. another thing about russ- he's super into the ranch dressing at Renzo. I think I caught him taking a sip of it at one point, weird stuff but I was kinda into it. He says that pizza should be so good it doesn't need ranch, but in Renzo's case the ranch is so good you have to eat it even though the pizza doesn't need it. I agreed with this opinion. Our waitress (I think her name was Olivia) was super nice and helpful and really quick on her feet. She'll know what I mean if she sees this. Closing out the Yelp year with a review of our Sunday bagel brunch. And believe me I was hesitant about a restaurant that only was serving bagels. But believe me when I say; the bagels are fantastic! We found ourselves here on the last Sunday in December of 2019 to celebrate Tracey's birthday. We were instructed to help ourselves to water and order at the bar. I think on normal pizza nights they have servers, but not Sunday. It was easy. We each ordered more drinks when we were ready and placed the food order. There was 4 of us, so 4 bagels that we were going to cut into 4ths and share. When I asked which of the bagels to double up on as there was 3, she told me #1 and she was right. The salmon lox minus red onions on the cacio e Pepe bagel (which means cheese and pepper) was hands down the best bite for me. I wanted to order another to take home for later it was so good!!! They make the bagels fresh that morning and you can tell. #2 and #3 were good, but I'd make changes while ordering next time. #2 was loaded up with raw red onions which wasn't listed on the menu. I picked them off but the smell and taste still lingered. I would also ask for extra dijonaise. #3 ate a little dry which I think was partly my fault bc it was luke warm by the time I got to that one. But I would still add a sauce next time!! I've been here a couple times with friends and each time have great food and a great experience! The vibe is so welcoming and everyone who works there is very friendly and helpful. Omg I can't believe I forgot to review this place while on our honeymoon a month ago. AMAZING pizza. We ordered a plain more basic cheese pizza and then we tried one of their specialties and it was the perfect balance of comfort food and unique food. I loved both pies. Seriously can't say which one I liked more. The place is not large we didn't have to wait because we at supper around 4 o'clock but definitely recommend calling ahead if you don't want to wait -- although the wait will be worth it! There is a patio but it just got done downpouring when we got there so it was closed. Also drinks were great. Get one or two along with their dips for their pizzas. Their ranch is great as well as their house dipping sauce that I can't remember the name of. Same thing. Both different but I can't say which I liked more. Such a good problem to have! read more

Renzo was great. We originally wanted to try a different Italian restaurant, but Renzo was not a disappointment. We ordered the gnudi for an appetizer. It was amazing. One of my new favorite italian dishes. I'd never heard of it before, but it's like a fluffy dumpling made of ricotta and parmesan cheese. It's similar to gnocchi, but lighter and fluffier. It was in this delicious pesto sauce. We ordered the Genghis Khan pizza and Fungi pizza. The Genghis Khan had a little bit of a kick to it. You could definitely tell it had spices that made it different than your average pizza. The Fungi had a lot of mushrooms on it. Borderline too much but it was still great. read more

So first time here and everything went well. Started with the wings and drink. The Bemini bon boulash was delicious, it was like a daiquiri. The smoked wings were good but for $12 you only get 4 wings. I had the wrath of khan and hubby had the margarita with pepperoni. The size of the pizza was very surprising, they are smaller than what you'd expect. Definitely kids size or Is there a shortage a dough or am I missing something. Renzo is a cute little classy pizza and wine bar not too far from my house. I've passed it many times and decided it was time to try it out! The atmosphere would be excellent for a date night! Warm, inviting, classy, low lighting (which is always nice for dates!). The bartender Billie was friendly and sweet, and helpful. I ordered the Margherita pizza with pepperoni added (for the kiddos), the Wrath of Kahan pizza, and a 50/50 Martini. The martini was ah-may-zing! So delish! The Margherita pizza (w/ pepperoni added) was scarfed down by my boys in a heartbeat and they were loving it! As for the Wrath of Kahan... I can tell you that it was made from very high-quality, fresh ingredients, and the tastes blended well together... however, it was a bit too sweet for me. I probably wouldn't order it again, I'd try another more savory flavored pizza. However, I would recommend it to a friend who likes things on the sweeter side! (Perhaps I should've gone with Billie's recommendation of a side of ranch to dip the pizza and crust into, as I think that would've balanced the flavors!) This was easily one of the most disgusting restaurants I've ever been to. My wife and I couldn't even make it to the appetizers because there were tons of ants scurrying along the wall behind her head. When we notified the waiter (thinking maybe this was a first), he said he didn't know what to do about it and he just kills them when he sees them. He then reached behind my wife's head to squish a few. At that point I canceled our order and we left, but not before the bartender kept trying to explain to me that it's an old building in Charleston and ant infestations are just a normal thing... That's definitely not true, the restaurant is just a complete dump. If you want good Italian in Charleston, head to Le Farfelle or Melfi's, but if you want something eclectic, go to Renzo and get some ants on your pizza - it's a Charleston staple! I'm calling the health department tomorrow morning. read more

Everything on this menu is excellent and should be sampled! From the Cesar salad to the pasta dishes, we bring all of our friends to experience Renzo with us. Even in the small tucked away space, it stays cozy and enjoyable. It can feel crowded at times, but the flavors distract you from the proximity to your neighbor. read more

5/5! Took my wife there for a light dinner. Had a white sauce pizza and the pan seared cauliflower. While both were amazing, the simple, pan seared cauliflower in a spicy oil sauce with mushrooms stole the show! Paired nicely with the house red. Sat at the bar and had an amazing time together. Went to Renzo for date night and loved the ambiance and cozy feel. For the price point and food it was a great deal. Wonderful spot for dates or dinner with friends. Fun long bar as well. Did the $10 house wine which was a crisp white and was very happy. WRATH OF KAHAN is picture closest and is A piquillo pepper sauce, mozzarella, chorizo, shallots, and medjool dates. Dates on a pizza I think so. KEVIN MCCALLISTER was tomato sauce, mozzarella, provolone, parmesan and paid extra for pepperoni. Only thing wish there was less char on crust. Next picture is the CHARRED BROCCOLINI XO which had Spicy mushroom ro sauce that took two glasses of wine to put out the heat. The mushrooms were fantastic on top. But spicy adverse people beware. We made a reservation for this restaurant about a week in advance, we had a 8:45 reservation on a Saturday night which feels very standard. We arrived and the hostess informed us that they were out of pizza dough and we couldn't order pizza. They assured us that there was enough on the menu to order that was not pizza. The menu was handed to us and the categories on the menu were pizza and not pizza, and the not pizza section was about 1/4 the size of the pizza section. There were no vegetarian pasta options or really any vegetarian options. We made the decision to leave at that point since it did not seem worth it. The pizzas on the other tables looked delicious but I was severely disappointed that a pizza restaurant ran out of pizza dough at a normal time. We ended up going to Melfis down the street and had a delicious meal! read more

I went to Renzo for a late dinner with friends this evening and we would all highly recommend. For our appetizers, we ordered the crispy potatoes and Caesar salad. The salad was delicious and the best Caesar salad we've had to date. The potatoes came with a calabrian chile agrodolce dipping sauce that paired surprisingly well with the potatoes. We ordered the Kevin McCallister, Margherita, and Lil' Sprout pizzas for our entrees. Each pizza was pre-cut into four slices. We each ate about 3-4 slices each. We also ordered two house ranch dipping sauces, completely finishing both of them down the last drop. The staff was attentive, friendly, and accurate. The ambiance was moody, loud, and fun. Discovered Renzo on Uber Eats and ordered a classic Margherita pizza during quarantine and it was so delicious that Renzo has become my go to pizza spot in Charleston! The ingredients are fresh, staff is friendly, and the restaurant it's self is pretty lowkey. The Classic Margherita and Kevin McAllister are my favorites. Whenever I ask for pepperoni on their pizza they always pack on the toppings! My sister lives in Charleston and this one of our local favorite places! Every time I come visit we come here. The pizza is amazing !!! The wine is very reasonably priced as well! I've had almost everything on the menu however I have noticed they do change it up a bit sometimes. Recently I had the Buffalo chicken bites I think is what it was called and holy cow delicious!!! When I heard that the owners of my favorite bar, Faculty Lounge, were opening a restaurant across the street, I could not be happier. When I have visitors in town, I usually suggest Renzo! They do have reservations and you can park anywhere on the street for 4 hours. The space inside is bright and you can see the wood-fired oven where they cook the pizzas! They have a great wine selection and beer options, but for cocktails you have to go over to Faculty Lounge! I am guilty of getting the same thing every time I go to Renzo, because the Wrath of Kahan pizza is THAT good! The crust is perfectly thin and crunchy, the piquillo pepper sauce and dates add a nice sweetness, and the chorizo is spicy. Every bite is perfectly balanced and it's honestly addicting! Another one of my favorites is the Lo Mein Carbonara. It's cheesy, rich peppery goodness and a must-try! They have a lot of rotating seasonal small plates and I should probably branch out and try those next time! I like taking people to Renzo when they visit because there's a dish for everyone. Read about Renzo during my restaurant searching before a trip to Charleston and had to make reservations - SO glad I did! The restaurant is super small and gets filled up quickly, so highly recommend res - they open 30 days in advance, so keep tabs on it. Renzo is in a very unassuming part of Charleston, in what looks like a renovated old house. Definitely off the beaten path and could be missed if you didn't know it was there. Inside, it is very modern and clean - lots of natural light and just a very home-y environment, you feel so welcome. Even though we had res, we did wait for a little bit to be seated but no big - just reviewed the menu and chatted with the hostess, who was extremely kind and provided great insight to the menu! We started off with 2 glasses of Montepulciano - not one of their natural wines, but still very tasty - full-bodied and a little bit spicy, it paired nicely with our meal. I was between the Wrath of Kahan and the Federer pizzas, but at the recommendation of my waitress, went with the Federer. This was probably one of the best pizzas I've ever had. The crust was very thin (my favorite), but still hefty enough to hold the toppings. The swiss chard was a unique topping, but that combined with ricotta and honey made it the perfect balance of sweet and savory - delicious!! My boyfriend got the Elote - basically Mexian street corn on a pizza with a little bit of spicy pork to round out the flavor. This was also excellent, and we devoured both of ours so quickly!! The pizzas are the perfect size for one, so we were content with just ordering that, but next time we will have to try a non-pizza item too :) Renzo gave me some of the finest pizza I have had in the US (sorry, but Italy still takes the cake...), and I'm still thinking of the Federer a week later. There is no other restaurant in Charleston like Renzo. It is a located on a corner of narrow streets in a densely arranged downtown working class neighborhood (that is close to having been gentrified). We walked in, early for our reservation, to a crowd waiting and an open table in the back. We superiorily made the assumption that we could walk around all those people since we had a reservation :). We were cheerfully greeted by Nayda who told us that the empty table was for another group who were a bit late for their reservation (boo), our table would be available soon (OK), and we could grab a drink at the (crowded) bar (elbow our way in?) or have a drink at their speakeasy across the street. Wait. What? "Oh! You don't know about our property across the street? Let me show you!" Nayda then led us back outside, and pointed to a small building across the street with no windows and no signs- decorated with Christmas lights (it's February). She said she would text us when the table was ready, that she would send our friends who were meeting us over there, and that we could stay there as long as we liked. They would hold the table for us. "Ring the bell, and then push the door. Don't turn the knob- push the door." This was our introduction to Faculty Lounge- but that is another review... The dining room of Renzo is inviting in its simplicity- some free standing tables in the front and the bar lining left side wall, with booths lining the right side wall- an open kitchen in the back (with the wood burning stove). Our sever, Robbie, was perfectly attentative and made spot on suggestions for us. We ordered the Caesar salad- delicious with lots of seeds although one member of our group wished it had less dressing, the Fancyboy pizza, and the daily special which was a whole red snapper in a tomato sauce with potatoes. The pizza was covered with veggies and was like a salad on a pizza which I love. I think there was some radicchio on it too. The pizza crust was wonderfully chewy and crispy with a great flavor. The fish was amazing and we ate every last drop of it. We ordered two desserts- one that wasn't on the menu which was a croissant with ice cream and we also ordered some pistachio ice cream with Nutella magic shell. The desserts were so yummy and we were having so much fun, we went ahead and ordered another desert- the Satsuma Creamsicle Sunday. Well. I want another one right now. Renzo's is different in that they serve really good food but unlike other good restaurants in town, they don't seem to be focused on the public relations side of creating a shtick to propel their sales.
