Here were the top annoyances: Air Conditioning - Broke completely in the middle of our July trip, the mechanic said it was quite old and missing some screws. It wasn't possible to fix on the road, so we had no AC for 4 days. Sensors - Many of the key sensors were inaccurate. Ex: black tank level, water level. This proved very challenging for first time RVers like us, who didn't have a feel for how often to empty or refill tanks. Door - The screen door was missing a piece of plastic, which created a hole for bugs to come in and the door itself required a VERY hard closure to latch. My kids could rarely do it themselves. Awning - Not functional; directions in troubleshooting book didn't match type of awning on our RV. Generator - Shut off inexplicably a few times. Mattress - VERY old and worn. Electrical panel - Literally kept closed with duct tape and wouldn't stay closed. Easy to accidentally turn things off. Privacy curtain - Held back with duct tape. Easily knocked open.

When I quit, the douche owner said I'd never amount to anything other than being a Walmart greeter. I should add, I was willing to put in two weeks before leaving, but Ryan told me he'd just consider that day my last day....AKA technically FIRED. He also refused to give me my last check. Well, he lost a fight with the labor board AND unenmployment, against me. He had an attorney, and I didn't, and was just a 21 year old kid at the time. These idiots FORGED a 1099 form supposedly filled out by me.....but my name was spelled wrong. How the hell would I spell my own name wrong? Had I thought faster, I would have gotten them for signature forgery. They also lied to the judge about what my job was, and even she knew they were full of it. A few years later, I was trying to get another trucking job (Walmart, eh?), and Ryan, the owner, LIED and said I had never worked there. Well, got the job, buddy. Now, I'm working an even better trucking job, 1500-2000 a WEEK. Much better than the measley, $9 an hour, under the table, with a forged 1099 you were paying me. These guys are CROOKED. I worked here for almost 2 years. STAY. AWAY.

Ryan's response was that per section 9c of the rental contract, he does not have to guarantee anything other than the vehicle itself works. Reading other reviews it seems he doesn't even do this. I wish I would have read the other reviews before giving him any kind of business. All of the negative reviews are not a conspiracy- it's a pattern of horrible customer service and business management. Avoid so you can have a pleasant trip. Edit- we contacted Cruise America Corporate and they were helpful and apologetic after learning of our interaction with the owner of this location. We will not be giving THIS location any more business and warning others to stay clear.

Nancy was rude and staff also mentioned she was rude to us. Nancy tried to charge us for a chip in the windshield and a missing power cord that we never used. We did use this RV for camping just driving from California to Chicago. This location really does not give great customer services. Our entire morning was discussing damages that we did make. This was all new to us.

El Monte and Arts RV have some bad business practices. If you show up with your own car to rent an…read moreRV, Arts is going to charge you $10/ day to leave it there. El Monte requires you to show up for your pick up appointment after noon but on your return you have to be in by 11:00 or else they charge a $100 late fee. The return time isn't obvious either, it's hidden in the paperwork and was never mentioned at checkout. So they charge for full days but you don't actually get full days. It was a double screw job! Aside from this the camper was clean and everything functioned as it should.

Absolutely the worst trip in an RV, hands down. A thousand dollars for 2 nights and three days. No shower, no hot water, hardly any water coming through to flush the toilet, wash hands or dishes, no heat, flooding, stains on all upholstery, garbage under all seats attached, bumpiest ride with absolutely no suspension and no help from anyone when the RV got stuck. After three days, three kids and 2 adults having no showers and sewage flying around the bathroom because it wouldn't flush is enough to never want to rent an RV again.
