ALWAYS READ FINE PRINT AND CONTRACT OR THEY WILL SCREW U OVER! Their employees don't tell you vital information, like the time you pick up the truck is the same time u have to drop it off at. I set my time on it as a 5pm drop off when i did the pre-rental equipment verification and they said no it was supposed to be 10AM and tried to charge me an extra $33! Not only was the truck filthy(floor was like a gravel pit with pick flossers all over the floor) when i picked it up but i cleaned it and they had the nerve to charge me a $50 cleaning fee too! That fee should run on the person before me and they should have cleaned the truck up before they rent it out somebody else. I was taking gravel out of my shoes for days! Also, their communication skills are nonexistent. One time when I was on the phone with them I asked them a question and didn't hear them typing or hear them say OK let me look it up or anything. it just went dead silence so I asked again and they said hold on (very impatiently annoyed sounding and rude) I'm looking at it. Well I'm on the phone I can't see that you're looking at you've got to say something! They're just playing a bunch of idiots and they look forward to screwing people over. Horrible experience! I prepaid for a minivan rental for the week over Independence Holiday weekend. Fortunately, I called them the week before our Billings trip. They said they only have one minivan to rent and it was out on another rental and they didn't know when it would be back. They told me to find go to another rental car company. They promised to refund all my money but didn't. I had to submit a dispute with AMEX to get my money back. As far as I can tell, this is local franchise is a poorly run business. I am very happy with my experience here, not sure why there are a couple negative reviews. I called on a Sunday to rent an SUV because my wife's car broke down, we were in Billings from Glasgow, then headed to Great Falls for Dr's appt. The vehicle was ready in 5 minutes, they kept our disabled car and diagnosed it, for free!, I returned to retrieve our car and ended up needing to tow it back to Glasgow, so they rented me a U-Haul and trailer and loaded the car for me. All the rental cost's were average, but the service was great, and I delt with 3 different people. I would definitely recommend them. read more

The first vehicle had a chip in the window and a half tank of gas when I picked it up. They quoted me at 35 a day for the second vehicle and then tried to charge me 75 when I picked it up. The license plate fell off because they didn't attach it properly and I pulled over to pick it up off the side of the road. They then yelled at me because of something they caused themselves. I followed the instructions on drop off and returned the car in perfect condition. They called me a day later and said I owed them fees for not having the tank full, improper drop off (?), and then ... they said I broke the windshield when I know I did not. Tried to bill me 500 dollars for a new windshield. Stay away from this place. Take lots of photos of the vehicle so they don't pull any tricks on you. read more

Forever grateful to Rent-A-Wreck in Billings. I couldn't find a car anywhere for under $200. I had booked one for $52 from here online but it turns out a bunch others rented the same car. My flight was 3 hours late and I needed to be two hours away to see my nephews basketball game, my reason for coming to Billings. The owner tried everything to help me and ended up giving me his 15 passenger sprinter van for my small car price. I made it with 7 minutes to spare and so thankful for his help. He went out of his way to accommodate me and he made my trip possible. Thank you. There is something to be said for amazing customer service and this business did it. read more

I reserved a SUV online & even received a reminder text 2 hours before my scheduled pick up time where to pick up the car. When it came time to get it, they couldn't find us in the system and had no SUV's. They had one car so we took that. We told the gentleman at the counter 2x's where we were going and nothing was said about mileage fees. Trip was uneventful, car ran great. Returned it. 2 days later my card gets charged quite a chunk for mileage fee. If using these folks, verify any online reservation & ask if there are mileage fees. :( read more

One star because there is no option for zero stars. This place is completely sketch. Had a reservation for July 18 for a Jeep Wrangler. Called on the 14th and was told that they had me in a Patriot. I made sure that they were going to honor the reservation for the Wrangler, but should have known that this meant trouble. Got there at 9:00 am on the 18th and was doing paperwork when I heard the two guys behind the counter briefly discuss whether the seatbelt dinger had been fixed. The guy who appeared to be in charge said dismissively that it had been. It hadn't been. Within 4 blocks the dinger started going off incessantly even thought the seatbelt was plugged in properly. I immediately took it back. It appeared clear to me that at least the guy in charge knew it wasn't fixed but hoped I either wouldn't care or at least wouldn't bring it back once I drove off. Fast forward two hours, car still not fixed, still has dinging issue and they decide it needs to go to the dealership to be fixed. Great - 8 days in Yellowstone and now no car. The offer of giving me an Impala or Suburban instead was silly because neither were close to what I was looking wanted for two people with fishing pole. By the way - their charge for the rental was $850 - $250 more than the non-Wrangler rentals I was looking at so this wasn't a dirt cheap rental either. It wasn't like Rent-a-Wreck was offering any great deal or bargain. I had to call six car rental agencies but National finally had a mid sized SUV at the airport they could get me into that day. Otherwise I would have had to wait until the 19th with an unexpected day in Billings and a forfeited deposit in Yellowstone. My advice, skip Rent-a-Wreck and start with a reputable car agency to begin with - you'll be much happier and your vacation will start much more smoothly. read more

We rented from these guys back in 2007 and they were awful. Car smelled like cigarette smoke and they didn't try to hide the fact that the driver who picked us up in the vehicle at the airport was smoking in it prior to pick-up. Then, they sprayed it with freshener after we complained. Than, being in winter, it was slushy and wet out. About 15 miles away when we tried to use the windshield fluid and it was empty, we called. Owner told us to drive back and he would fill it up with fluid. We told him that we were at a gas station and would be happy to buy him some if he would reimburse us. He refused. In the end, they overcharged us as well and we tried to dispute but no luck. Finally, we filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and his response was a bold-face lie. I would not trust these guys. Indeed, renting from this place is ultimately cheaper but the key here is not only inexpensive but cheap as the cars are old, feel old, smell old and function old. Stay away from this headache. Renting here is asking for trouble. And who needs trouble on a vacation? On first impression. Rentawreck seems like a pretty good deal. We got a Chevy Tahoe in July when no other major rental company had any SUVs available. The car was clean, new ish (2009 or so) and in good working order. The rates were very reasonable. The pickup guy was nice and fairly professional in getting us out the door and in the road. The airport after hour drop off was easy. However, when I saw my credit card statement a week later, there were two separate charges from Rentawreck. One for the amount I signed off on upon pickup and an additional charge for $241. This second charge was completely unjustifiable. The car was returned on time, clean, gassed and without any dings. I called for clarification and was told the extra charge was because I was "under charged" to begin with. Classic bait and switch. What's worse, the guy on the phone was immediately rude and hostile when I questioned the charge. I disputed the charge to my credit card company and, thankfully, received a refund several weeks later. No thanks to Rentawreck, which contested the refund. read more

They charged us a $50 cancelation fee and the owner refused to take off the charged when I spoke with him, even though we were never told about the cancelation fee and it was not stated anywhere on our reservation receipt. Incredibly rude, low class business. Stay away. I've never written a bad review on yelp. So take my advice, DON'T go near these guys. read more

Rented a 1/2 ton pickup truck for furniture moving, they were a good bit cheaper then any of the other options in town (U-haul or the other rental companies). When we got there the guy gave us a free upgrade to a 3/4 ton Chevy. The truck had a few miles on it but got us out to a ranch north of Laurel with no trouble. I did not have actual experience of renting so can't comment on the quality of cars and local support. But from what I experienced, I would not recommend this facility at all. I booked a car at the facility's website for a rental pick-up on 8/28/11. I understood the $50 cancellation charge at the time of booking. Still, it was very disappointing to see a cold-hearted and greedy business approach when the manager refused to consider the extraordinary circumstances (and reverse even partially the cancellation fee) under which my entire Yellowstone trip had to be cancelled -- Hurricane Irene in NJ shut down all airports in NJ area for nearly 2 days and my flight was cancelled making the trip impossible. These people screwed me out of hundreds of dollars. They lied to me about how their rental policy worked. Their rental cars are old and poorly maintained. The rental they gave me, I brought back a few times cause it kept using oil and having other problems. But all I was using for is commuting to work. And when I finally returned it, they charged me hundreds of dollars for supposed wear and tear I caused. I was as diplomatic as I could be, and they were extremely rude and condescending. If you ever wonder why their rates seem too good to be true, it's because they are. I'm looking at their reviews right now., and counting mine, FIVE reviewers each give them ONE star. And the only positive review is 4 stars, but it describes them overbilling the customer for a fuel charge, and refunding the customer for it when he came in to complain. If you look at their reviews on other websites, you'll see a LOT of customers complaining about how they were charged extra for this and that. So only do business with Rent-a-Reck if you are masochist who likes being treated like crap and throwing money away. Edit: I find it interesting that this business has owned their yelp listing for several years, and did respond to the one positive review on here. However, my cell phone number was given out by one of the employee's to one of his friends who wrote me an exceptionally sexually harassing text message... When I called the local manager for a refund for their breach of privacy contract he said "that was above and beyond what happened" to me...I recommend not renting from them, ever! I was picked up from the airport (at nearly midnight!) by a friendly rent-a-wreck employee. He was very patient and nice about the rental processing. I was able to check out the economy car that I rented beforehand. It was also a newer model and drove great. The lobby of the business was also in the process of decorating with new furniture, art and a carved bear which I have yet to see! read more

PLEASE READ!! My story: After finding out that my grandma passed away, I jumped on the internet to try and figure out the cheapest way to get home. Without making this long story longer... I ended up having to fly into Billings Montana, rent a car, and drive to Missoula Mt (310miles and about 6 hours away) to keep the trip under $1,000. While shopping for rental vehicles I stumbled upon Rent a Wreck in Billings. They were no doubt the cheapest price around... so I called them to talk about mileage, age (I'm 24), insurance, etc. Everything seemed fine, jumped on a plane, they picked me up at the airport on Sunday, and I was home Sunday night. When I got home the family and I joked about the fact that I was driving a "wreck" that not only did the car have wind coming in through the door handles, but it had a sticky steering wheel, and about 200,000 miles on it. Needless to say, I didn't think it mattered... I just wanted to be home with my family for the funeral. Funeral was Monday morning, the car remained parked until Wednesday (my birthday) when I decided to take myself to town for a little birthday shopping. I jumped in the car, drove about 20 miles... slowed for a red light at an intersection, my brakes hesitated, and then the car makes a loud "clunk" and something started to grind. I pulled over, called Rent A Wreck in Billings... they tell me that I'm not far from another Rent A Wreck (about 4 blocks away), and that if its driveable... to drive it there. I drive the car to this other location, the manager takes the car for a test drive around the parking lot (hears the grinding, metal on metal) and even locks it up a couple times. Well, turnes out that the brake caliber CAME OFF! Then I find out that they want me (on my birthday, with only a few hours left with family) to WAIT while they "try" to fix it. (It should be noted that this is Wednesday at 2pm and I needed to be on the road, headed for Billings at 4am on Thursday!) So I call back to Billings, let him know the situation, the guy in Billings says that if I dont want to wait for the car to be fixed then, "I guess we're done talking." I could NOT believe that this was his solution. So I said, "No, what I need is for you find a different car so that I can get going." He replies "I don't NEED to do anyting." After arguing with Billings and having their representative hang up on me, I canceled payment on my credit card, called my father and waited for his help. After my father showed up, words were exchanged... they continue to say that I'll need to wait for the car to be fixed, my father loses his temper, grabs all my stuff out of the car, and we leave to go rent elsewhere. I guess it goes back to the ol' saying "you get what you pay for." Not only did they refuse to step up and help me out after THEIR car failed me... but they continued to argue when in all reality... if, God forbid, the car had done this while I was traveling 70 mph on the freeway... they could have VERY EASILY been forking over a check to pay for my funeral. Take my advice....DO NOT RENT FROM THESE PEOPLE IF YOU'RE LIFE/TIME ARE OF ANY IMPORTANCE TO YOU!! read more

I recommend not renting from them as it appears they say one thing, and then when it is time to pick up the car change what they say. A few days before our pickup date we received a call and were told our vehicle would not be back in time but we could have a full size SUV for the same price. We called from the airport and were picked up promptly. We went to the rental office , filled out paper work and were on our way. The worst part is, what they really after is not your rental charge, they want your deposit. they will try everything to steal your deposit. DO NOT DEAL WITH THIS BUSINESS IF FROM OUT OF STATE. I am a canadian customer who rented a travel trailer for a camping trip in yellowstone park. Everything about the rental was perfect including the price. The problem is when I returned the rental, there was an issue with their computer system that prevented my 1000 dollar deposit from being refunded. I was told that he would solve the problem and email a receipt. After a week being at home I finally had to email a request for my deposit, which went on my mastercard 2 days later. The deposit refund was for only 820 dollars, so I called to find out why. The owner/manager Wes told me there was damage to the unit and that's why they shorted my deposit. I had done a walkaround of the unit with an employee and there was no damage whatsoever, and the walkaround checklist had big block letters stating "GOOD" wrote across the checklist. He tells me that they found it after. Since I'm from out of town, I have no way of disputing this other than the original paperwork which stated the unit was not damaged. He told me and I quote, "you damaged the unit, end of story". I am so angry at this blatant fraudulent activity that I have filed a dispute with my credit card company, and with the better business bureau. I called a second time requesting a copy of my deposit refund receipt, as well as a copy of the walkaround form that his employee and myself signed, and was told that those are his records and would need a court order to get them. He is obviously hiding the fact that the unit was in perfect condition when returned and is just ripping me off. It is on a lot with beat up rental cars and uhaul trucks and trailers, and i believe the employeee who moved it damaged it himself. Given the fact that I was never contacted about the damage, and there was a "problem" with the computers preventing any paper work or deposit to be given to me, it is quite obvious that this is a rip-off scam on an out of town customer. DO NOT TRUST THIS COMPANY!!!! Also, when I rented the unit they photocopied my mastercard, and this is the first time in my life that a credit card has been photocopied. Very shady........ read more
