Three visits, three issues. The first time I went to Renovo, it was to get a retreatment on a root canal. Everything seemed to go fine and I really appreciated the care that Dr. Trinh showed me. So when I started having extreme pain in the same place, I went back to Renovo. I got Dr. Wong. Nothing visible on the x-ray, so he decided I must just have some discomfort from my crown, which he promptly pulled off. (Btw - the pain was way higher than my gumline). When my response was near to tears instead of relief, he seemed perplexed. He took me to the 360 x-ray machine, which showed a big abscess in the same root that had been retreated by Trinh. Wong retreated it (again) with apologies that I had to go back to the dentist and pay for a new crown to replace the one he'd unnecessarily removed. Both Dr. Trinh and Dr. Wong are pretty likeable guys, so I was willing to chalk that up to human error. Stuff happens, I guess. But then. I was sent back to Renovo by the VA to address a tooth that was so infected, it was coming out of the side of my gums. Dr. O'Hara told me the tooth was likely cracked through and needed to be pulled. I'd been in pain for months and thought I was finally in a place where I could get relief. But Dr. O'Hara got demonstrably mad at me when I asked if they could pull the tooth. It turned into a weird drama that I don't fully understand. (They seemed to have a lot of issues with working with the VA.) They told me they do not pull teeth unless they also get to be the ones to put in the implant. In the end, Dr. Trinh walked in, pulled the tooth and walked out. I had to call my dentist to ask for after-care instructions. Such a bummer. I really wanted to love this place. But I don't recommend them. At this point, I can't. I can get past the rude receptionist in Schaumburg (the Elgin one is great), but the quality of care is not great. Endodontists are usually awesome problem solvers. Unfortunately, these guys have caused me more problems than they've solved. read more

The most professional and clean and helpful medical office I have been to. Just the word endodontis scares me. I had my dentist install a crown because my silver filling needed to be taken out and refilled and it had a small crack in it. I had severe pain afterwards and my dentist told me to go see an endodontis. I was referred to Dr. Gaw since my niece had to have a root canal. She loved Dr. Gaw as I did as well. All the employees: Miranda, Soon and Evelyn and the owner as well were kind, professional, thorough and quite impressive. My husband had Root Canal in care of Dr Jenna Gaw along with her assistant Evelyn. Big thanks to them we got a very nice experience and not traumatic one. This is the first time my husband had RCT so he is kind of nervous and some had really having painful experience. But for us, this is a great commendable experience. This place is truly incredible! I've been treated by both Dr. Trinh and Dr. Wong and both procedures were completed perfectly! Dr. Trinh completed a re-treatment on an old root canal . I've had intermittent pain in that area for over a year and it's truly amazing that I'm now pain free! I had to see Dr. Wong because I had a root canal completed by my general dentist and a file had broken in my canal. My general dentist was not able to get it out so he was unable to complete the procedure so I was referred to Renovo. I was leaving for vacation 2 days later and was concerned about the pain and the fact the procedure wasn't completed so I called the office after hours and chose the option on the voicemail to speak to a doctor and within 15 minutes, I received a call from Dr. Wong! He gave me all the scenarios and was able to get me in before my vacation, remove the broken file and complete the root canal !!! The office staff is phenomenal as well! I've worked with Stephanie in the front office and she has a calming demeanor, friendly disposition and so helpful! Anita was assisting the doctors during both my procedures and is extremely knowledgeable, thoughtful and funny !! So to start, I had a filling done on a cracked front tooth about 10.5 years ago. Miraculously it lasted that long, but in the middle of a Wednesday... part of it cracked off. You can imagine my horror and anxiety had just shot through the roof. I was so worried I wouldn't be able to get an appointment for a couple days and with work... petrified. I was then referred to Dr. Wong and to my surprise he was able to fit me in early the next morning. Amazing! I arrive, fill out a few forms and he took me right back. After a little look, he and his assistant got right to work. I felt so comfortable under their care, they'd made me feel like I had been going there for years. Before I wrote this I read other reviews and to my surprise I found dealing with this practice completely the opposite and unprofessional. I don't recommend Dr. Wong. I think he is rude, he lacks a bedside manner and is arrogant and egotistical. My daughter who has special needs saw him and because of the covid situation I was unable to be there during her procedure. She told me he never explained what he was going to do. Never told her after the procedure was done, what to expect. Completely disregarded her needs during the procedure in fact he started talking about pulling a tooth, she thought it was about her. He was talking to someone else and never said excuse me or explain that it wasn't about her. She was completely frightened during the whole procedure. I think in the future he needs to have empathy for all types of people. Especially people who have special needs. read more

First I want to say thank you to the entire staff at Renovo. Aside from having to wait several weeks to fit into their busy schedule, EVERYTHING was perfect!!! I now understand WHY their appointment book was packed with patients for weeks. From the moment we arrived until the time my daughter and I left, we were absolutely amazed and pleased with the level of professionalism, state of the art equipment, and the patient focused customer care. This experience all started with being referred to McHenry Dental Specialists from our general dentist for my daughter's large cavity. She was referred for a root canal but the Endodontist told us he couldn't do it because the roots hadn't fully grown. He recommended that we simply extract the tooth since the decay was so large. Next, we contacted my daughter's Orthodontist to have them remove the brace on the tooth in preparation for extraction. They told us, "although we respect the Endodontist's recommendation, we really need to do whatever we could to try and salvage the tooth". So, we sought a second Endodontist's opinion (and that's where Renovo comes into the story). I explained our situation to Alan Commet (doppleganger to actor Stephen Merchant), who introduced himself by name and not by "doctor". Soon, they were off taking their own xrays of the cavity stricken tooth (using a hand-held scanner similar to ones you'd see at Sam's Club). Within seconds (literally), Alan had an alternative plan for my daughter's tooth. He told us, "While we can't do a root canal, we certainly can save the tooth without having to extract it. I'm surprised to hear that you were told it needed to be pulled. I'm even more surprised that the other Endodontist didn't give you other options. We can do a procedure called an 'apexo-genesis', then fill in the remaining cavity the traditional way." Ummmmm, whaaaaat? Apexo-who? He proceeded to say, "Instead of rescheduling the procedure weeks from now (again, they're really busy), I will just fit her in today so you don't have to come back. We'll just get it over with. It'll only take me 25-30 minutes." He explained what the procedure entailed to my daughter (yes, to my daughter instead of me). He then said to both of us, "Any questions?" I loved that he directed EVERYTHING to her and made her feel her decision was all that he was looking for (not mine). It was so professional of him. Naturally, she/we said yes and his staff immediately started making contact with our insurance. Within minutes (no kidding...minutes), we had a full estimate of the damage. After all the xrays, anesthesia, drilling, etc. we would owe $156 out-the-door. WHAT??? I didn't have to sell my first born or give up my left kidney??? "WHERE DO I SIGN?" I told the office staff member. Soon, my daughter was kicked back in the chair getting all numbed up. He loaded her up generously and wasn't trying to be stingy. Before, during, and after, he would show his concern for her comfort. It was VERY reassuring for me and my daughter later verbalized to me how grateful she was of his concern. In true fashion, he was done with the procedure in just under 30 minutes. He took pictures during each phase of the procedure. At the completion of the procedure, he told us he would send all the pictures as well as a copy of the full report, the same one he would send to our general dentist, to our email. He went over some simple post-procedural instructions, told us he'd like to see us in 1 year for follow-up on the tooth's root development, and off we went. As a medical professional myself, I cannot stress how wonderful of an experience this was. Not only did they give my daughter what she needed, they gave her what she deserved...respect, professionalism, easy-to-understand descriptions of the procedure, sensitivity, honesty ("the shot will hurt but I'll be quick")...the whole package. He treated her as if she was his own child, intermittently stopping to ask her, "Any pain?" "Are you ok?" "Do you need anything?" "Would you like a break?" "Do you need suction?" In an industry where customer service should be the focus, the entire staff of Renovo was SPOT ON!!! I'd give them top honors in patient focused care. I cant say enough good things about this place. Dr Wang and her staff were upfront with a person who is scared to death by the site of any of the instruments in the office. She made me feel right at home (love the duel TVS) and explained everything that needed to be done in detail and just how much my insurance was going to pick up vs what my out of pocket was going to be. The facility is modern and ultra clean. In two weeks my appointment came and again got the same treatment. I was nervous as I could possibly be explaining that Id rather go in for surgery than be in her chair. Once Dr Wang started, I could see that she knew her stuff. Ive had a couple of questions after the fact and Ive had no issues getting in touch with her to get answers. Top notch operation with what appears to be state of the art equipment. read more

Unfortunately I needed to have a bit of an emergency root canal today on a tooth that I had a root canal done 5 yr ago. THANK GOD Dr. Wong could see me. I went in with a level of pain that is the worst I've ever experienced in my life. And I suspect I was probably a problem patient for Dr. Wong since he had to keep numbing me up. He was great explaining everything and what he was doing every step of the way. Excellent bedside manner and concerned about your comfort the whole time. And, I'm so happy he was in network for me. This place is seriously the best! I hate the dentist and the dentist but Dr. Wong made it such a great experience. I needed a last minute tooth pulled before I leave for college in 5 days. I called and they were able to get me in the same day and pull the tooth out all in about an hour. I've been to their office in Schaumburg before for a root canal and knew I wanted to come back to their office when my dentist told me that I needed to get my tooth pulled by an oral surgeon. 6/6/14 I was in desperate need of a root canal, and the staff called me immediately when they had an opening! I had the procedure done half hour ago, and I was extremely nervous to have the procedure done because of the bad rep that root canals get. BUT, the procedure was short and sweet! No pain whatsoever and even better than getting a filling done! Mr. Wong walked me through it all, and was quite confident in his work, which made me feel at ease right away. Dr. Wong is excellent. I have a great fear of getting dental work done, but I was in so much pain I had to give in. My dentist recommended Dr. Wong for my root canal procedure. His assistant was very nice, and intuitive, because she noticed almost immediately that I was very nervous. She talked to me and reassured me, which I was grateful for. Dr. Wong is very down to earth (He even checked me out himself, explaining both the insurance responsibility and my portion, which I've never witnessed ANY doctor do.) Instead of asking me dumb questions that I couldn't answer with dental instruments in my mouth, he explained every step. He even made suggestions on when to have the rest of my work done so that my insurance would pay for it, since there is an annual limit on my policy. All said, I'd recommend him to anyone. He was fast, I felt no pain, and I felt none of the tugging and scraping that I remember from past visits to other practices. It doesn't hurt that he is VERY confident in his work. read more

Dr Trinh and the staff at Renovo were very warm and kind. Dr Trinh was very accommodating in answering all of my questions clearly and in detail. I never felt rushed. The removal of one of my rear molars demanded that the tooth come out in pieces as the roots were quite long and would not come out by pulling. I postponed a root canal because of past experiences at places other than Renovo. I was afraid of the shot more than the toothache pain. The Doctor listened to my fears, talked me through the shot, and took her time, which made all the difference. She used some sophisticated looking equipment that I had not seen at any other facility. Short story: What a great experience; I can't thank them enough. Long story: I had a terrible toothache and Renovo was able to fit me in for a root canal with Dr. Wang on short notice. The team took xrays and Dr. Wang showed me the problem tooth and what would be done on the huge tv screen in front of the chair. She is calm and knowledgeable and made me feel at ease. The procedure was quick (took less than an hour!) and painless (she made sure I was very numb). Also, the staff was friendly and the office was really nice with modern equipment. I had been afraid of getting a root canal thinking it would be painful, but it turns out that the toothache was the painful part and the (super quick) root canal at Renovo was the relief. As a fellow medical professional I was blown away by the office. Dr. Commet was great, I was in pain for 2-3 days and they were able to get me in the same day I called. I knew I needed a root canal and Dr. Commet had me numb and ready to go after sitting in the chair in 10 minutes. The root canal wasn't the normal root canal due to my tooth being a "hot" tooth (inflammed/sensitive). He handled it very professionally and made the process go as smoothly as a root canal can go. About a year ago I had a cavity filled and this was nothing new to me but this particular tooth was causing quite a problem. It seemed to be rejecting the filing and I went back to get, yes, a second filling to see if it would solve the problem. Words can't describe the pain I was in - to the point where I didn't even think I could drive. It took some time but the pain ended up going away on its own. With a recent change in my employer came choosing a new dentist, which can always be a bit nerve wracking. A couple of weeks ago that same tooth started hurting again (throbbing, sensitivity to hot/cold, etc.) so I called my new dentist to set up an appointment. She was able to squeeze me in right away but unfortunately I was met with some bad news - based on the X rays and her observation of the tooth itself, she thought I would need a root canal (cue me starting to go into freak out mode). Since I had never had a root canal before, I asked her to recommend an endodontist and she shared that many of her patients had good experiences with Dr. Wong at Renovo. I called Renovo the following day to set up a consultation and the receptionist was very friendly and helpful. She explained we could set up a consultation AND root canal appointment or schedule them separately. I asked which people typically do and she said they schedule both at the same time. I took the day off work and my boyfriend (bless him) drove me to my 7 am appointment (on 10/3/14). First of all, I was blown away by the physical appearance of the space - VERY clean and modern. While my boyfriend and I waited for my appointment to begin, Dr. Wong came into the office and gave us a friendly, warm greeting. A few minutes later I was called to the back and HOLY TV. Huge TV right in front of me, so I got to enjoy HGTV :) There is also one on the ceiling so when you are reclined back you can still enjoy your show of choice. Very good distraction. You also get to wear glasses to avoid the glare from the overhead light. Dr. Wong was very friendly and down-to-earth and we had some time to chat before the procedure began. He reassured me it would be no big deal and that the most uncomfortable part was getting the shot to numb the area (which I had already experienced from previous fillings/dental work). As soon as I was numbed up, I was reclined back and he talked me through the whole procedure ("it's going to smell like a swimming pool in a minute"). I was in and out in less than an hour and didn't experience much pain after. As my boyfriend explained to others, "she was pretty chipper afterwards." Bottom line: this was BY FAR the best dental experience I have ever had. I was so nervous I could barely sleep the night before but it was all for nought. Dr. Wong and his staff will take great care of you and will put you at ease...I promise. read more

My dentist was not able to do my root canals my roots were bent. So she sent me to D. Wong. So if you need any work done that your dentist cannot do CALL THEM you will not be sorry. read more

Beware Dr. Tam Trinh !!! I had an insanely terrible experience with this guy & caution anyone planning to visit Renovo or let Dr. Trinh anywhere near your mouth. Renovo was one of the local Endos my dentist recommended for a root canal & I guess I drew the short straw with a newbie. Dr. Trinh was so focused flirting with the female dental technician, that during the procedure he lost control of the rotating metal drill & let it ricochet off the other teeth in my mouth: TWO SEPARATE TIMES! They both laughed it off like it was no big deal & went on flirting like cheesy high school kids. I'd be surprised if either/both times the loose drill didn't fracture some of my other teeth. It was like a bad reality show listening to Dr. Trinh complain that he didn't have anyone fun to hang out with while the dental tech described how "hot" she was for the celebrity fighter "Conor McGregor". I'm sitting right here - pay attention!!! Is this how she mindlessly let the blue rubber mouth guard fall down into the back of my throat several times throughout the procedure? Any half-way decent Endo will make sure that you are completely numb during this type of procedure. Not Dr. Trinh. When I started to feel sharp stabs of pain & asked for more medicine, Dr. Trinh told me to be patient, that he was almost finished! I asked him a couple of more times over the next half hour but he told me I was "fine" as he manhandled my face & the dental tech jabbered on. By the end, my entire face was sore, my other teeth felt jarred, & I had a brain-splitting headache. Dr. Trinh could not leave sooner; he did not even take his gloves off when he left the room & I never saw him again. For the first time that day, the dental tech was oddly silent as she quickly wrapped up before bolting from the room herself. I sat around waiting for another 10~ minutes & eventually got up to look for assistance. Apparently Dr. Trinh had already left for the day & I had to ask the receptionist for post-treatment guidance & my paperwork. Ironically, there was no manager to speak with, but by that time I was no longer surprised with Renovo or their complete lack of basic professionalism. My regular dentist was shocked when I shared my experience & she has committed to speak with Renovo's owners. I'm working on formal complaints to the Illinois DPH & ADA, but in the meantime, thanks to YELP for providing a platform for real-world honest feedback!!! read more

She explained everything to me in a way I understood, and she took me seriously when I told her I have a great fear of dental work and needles. She genuinely cared for me and my situation. I researched hi and low for an Endodontist in my area when needing to retreat a couple of root canals. I came across Dr. Wong and met with him to go over treatment options. I cannot tell you how happy I was to find him and his team. He really went above and beyond to explain in detail to me what treatment was available and the steps needed going forward. If You need a root canal you have to go and see Dr. Wong. Recently I needed one and I have to say it was best experience ever!!! Everything was painless and quick. Dr. Wong doesn't waste his time, you know at some dental offices you will get numb and you have to wait an hour for doctor to came back, with Dr. Wong you are in and out. I was talking to a friend of mine about how it's been almost two years since I had my implant and never got the crown put in. She referred me to her oral surgeon, Dr. Wong at Renovo Endodontic Studio. He was kind enough to finish the abutment and crown for me. I'm a diabetic (not that this is relevant) but I see a lot of doctors. It's easy to tell when a doctor doesn't care or won't give you the time you need. Dr. Wong is a very caring doctor and wants the best for his patients. He explains in detail the steps, what to expect, and timing, and his prices beats the other oral surgeons in the area. I can't express enough his passion for making patients teeth as perfect as they can be. A couple other pros is the offices are extremely clean and stylish. The staff are friendly, make you feel comfortable and willing to assist with any questions. The experience and treatment I received was so great I am having him do two more implants for me.
