While he was installing the toilets he noticed that the bathroom had been recently painted and came to ask if I wanted to finish up the spot behind the toilet before he installed the new one. I never would have thought of that but he did and it was awesome that he gave me the opportunity to finish it up. But Dave doesn't just do good work. Dave Schmidt is the only plumber I would hire in Bend, OR. He is honest, on time, and takes great pains to keep your house clean as he is working. I hired him to install a new sink, garbage disposal and hot water heater in a hurry, as the plumber I had originally hired kept putting it off. Dave was able to save me money, substituting some of what he already had on his truck for some of the more expensive but inferior products that I had purchased at Home Depot. Dave got the sink installed, and when it turned out that he was going to have to cut some tile to make the sink fit, protected the rest of the house from dust. I wish I could take him with me when I move, it took me a long time to find him, and I am so bummed that I am going to have to find a new plumber in my new city! read more

Dave has completed several projects for me over the last two years including fixing a hot-water recirculation pump, fixing a toilet and then garbage disposal, and a very extensive project to run a natural gas line from the meter under the house and out to a brand new fire pit and bbq. David is a consummate pro! We just moved into a new house and found a leak. He didn't have an opening for weeks, but promised to drop by if he had space between jobs. Next day he was here. We woke up last night to a broken pipe and water gushing out of the ceiling. Yikes! Called several plumbers who were too busy or never called back. Dave called within a couple of hours and said that because we didn't have water, he would move things around to accommodate us. Within an hour Josh and Parker showed up. He found the leak, and fixed it with an hour. They were respectful, clean and very friendly. The price was extremely reasonable. I called him just to do a little detective work on a noise that sounded like water running. It turned out to be a true disaster as my main intake line from the City went bad. These 5-star ratings are well deserved. Dave is top quality. I yelped for a plumber, found his number, and within a couple hours he was able to swing by my house and snake out a bathtub drain. Not only did he do the work neatly and efficiently, but he took the time to check out the pipe configuration from below in the basement, and gave me a long term solution to save up for. He was sweet to my kids, didn't smell like cigarette smoke, and cleaned up after himself very nicely. His rate for snaking the drain was $129, and included that extra consultation about a long term plan for reconstruction. I really appreciated his straight talk. And that he wasn't patronizing to me, as a woman, as so many men in service industries can be. I'm actually am the handy person in our house, so it was nice to be leveled with respectfully! What can I say that hasn't already been said?! Dave is simply fabulous. We discovered water on the outside of our home and had a heck of a time trying to determine where it was coming from. I fully expected multiple holes in several walls to locate the leak, but Dave said he preferred to do some "reconnaissance work" before actually cutting through our drywall. It's no exaggeration to say that Dave spent a solid 90 minutes familiarizing himself with the layout of our home, asking questions, traversing the crawl space to narrow the source of the leak down to one wall and using various investigative tools in the hopes that he wouldn't have to cut into our wall (saving us the cost of drywall repair). Most plumbers would have "cut first, investigate later", but not Dave! When he discovered the source of the leak would in fact require cutting into our wall, he took extra care to keep the cutting to a minimum. He kept me posted throughout the project while giving me a variety of options for repairs and helping me determine which was the best solution for us. With over 30 years of experience, he was wonderful in his explanations and communication. He fixed the leak quickly and efficiently. When he told me the price, I had to double check - for almost five hours of work, I couldn't believe how reasonable his fee was! Further, he was someone I was completely comfortable having in my home while there by myself. He was extremely pleasant and his customer service is top notch. He even gave us a great referral for a drywall contractor. We won't hesitate to call Dave again for any plumbing issues we have! read more

It was Memorial Day weekend and instead of getting an answering machine, Dave answered the phone. He came on the holiday to assess a crack in my shower floor. He was honest that while he could make some good money putting in a new shower/tub for me, it wasn't what I needed. Had to replace a couple of frost free faucets because they kept leaking. Dave was recommended and he arrived when he said he would. Analyzed the problem, explained to me what he thought was the best solution, and how much it would cost. He did the work, including having to make an extender block to hold the faucet. Dave was such a help to me. First he spoke with me on the phone for about 20 minutes giving me advice on how to handle my situation with my contractor that built my house and did it for nothing more than making sure I wasn't getting screwed over. Then when I lost faith and trust in my contractor because he blamed me for why there was a leak which went through my downstairs ceiling, I knew who I could call. Dave came out the same day I called and easily turned the tables to show that it was my contractors fault for a leaky toilet. He then sent me a detailed explanation on the invoice to use if things with the contractor ever go to court. To top it all off, I called him during the repair to run what the contractors solution was by him and he told me that it seems like my contractor was doing the right things. We recently moved to a home in Redmond. I called Dave to install a new house shut-off valve and replace our master bathroom faucets. He was early and did a great job on both tasks.
