There was no such thing as Home Depot when my family and I came to Soundview from the Dominican Republic in the late 70s. Only Renel on the corner of Soundview & Randal Aves. in Clason Point.
It might look small from the outside, but Renel is surprisingly big once you step through its doors. And to this day, this independent hardware store is still pumping it out with tools, hard-to-find light bulbs, some paint and many other homeware essentials for many of your DIY needs. I even have gotten keys made ages ago in like the quickness with staff happy to help.
Most recently, my mom's toilet tank flush lever broke. Now, I could've easily driven my mom to Home Depot- 10 minutes further out and pay $5 less there, but in this pandemic day and age, supporting independent stores is a must for me.
If you have some DIY that needs seeing quickly, Renel has everything you need- even an $11+ toilet lever with unbeatable customer service. read more
