The staff here are friendly and always helpful. I go here because you actually get advice and help unlike the box stores!!

From Cacti to philodendrons you'll find an amazing selection of all kinds of plants, flowers and succulents. That's only the green house. A whole lot filled to the brim with annuals and perennials you'll have no trouble imagining your dream garden, well that's if you can get over the overwhelming beauty of this place. The shrubs and trees selection fills up most of the outdoor space with different species of all types. The staff there are extremely helpful, super friendly and seem very hardworking. Most of the staff is knowledgeable and answered most of my questions. It is Larchmont so the prices will vary but it seems justifiable seeing how much work goes into the plants here. The boss lady here seems pretty old school very on top of her employees, i was able to talk to her for a while and man can that lady talk. Very hard working woman, knowledgeable and a little feisty. Overall it's a great place. You can even just go for a stroll, plus it's wheel chair accessible. Whatever you need it seems like this place has it i'm definitely going to stop by here more often.

There is a book section, a perfume and lotion section, kids toys, and plentyof NYBG merchandise. You can buy bulbs and seeds inside the shop. The live plant section has winter bushes and holiday arrangements. Staff has always been friendly and helpful when I've had questions. Most items are priced on the higher side, but there are affordable trinkets if you're looking for souvenirs. This evening they had stations outside of the shop for hot chocolate and cookie decorating. On the other side of the park they have the Holiday Train Show. It's a beautiful time for a visit.

They have a large selection of plants, planters, gardening equipment, and plant themed art and items. Most things are high quality and genuinely nice - as opposed to a bunch of stress balls and mugs stamped with the NYBG logo. There was also a large book selection, mostly with art books and plant books. They also had themed office supplies, journals, candles, and a little bit of apparel. We visited NYBG for the Yayoi Kusama exhibition, and they had a section of the store specifically for Kusama items. They had a great Kusama book collection, along with other limited edition / moderately priced souvenirs. I wish they had a little more selection with the Kusama swag, but I was happy to get some polka dot socks and t shirt. The NYBG shop was a highlight of the gardens and I'll definitely be stopping in each time I visit! PS - NYBG members get 10% off!

I'm not normally buying plants or plant-related products because the only success I've had in my apartment is one type of succulent (the Hobbit Jade Plant) that seems to thrive no matter what. That being said, I wanted to combine two separate plants into one pot on my window sill and needed the soil and a rectangular planter. Note - The only rectangular planters I saw were plastic, the soil was pricy compared to Home Depot, and an additional Hobbit Jade Plant was pricier there than what I've seen elsewhere. That being said, there may be other items competitive in price or not available elsewhere... plus (at least for me) it's convenient. Plus, it sells items like soil in smaller quantities, which may be convenient for people with small apartments. Recommend coming and checking Urban Garden Center out, including its chickens both in the hen house and roaming around free range!

Avoid this business!!!: UGC justifies bad behavior without apology. Customers are not respected,…read morefrom rude staff answering the phone with attitude, lack of communication regarding stated arrival time, to poor installation of plants that is not done with accepted standard practice of professional gardeners for the health of plants. Also, the plants that cost me a couple of thousand dollars had many broken branches because the workers rushed to install them. They also want payment up front before any delivery/installation/scheduling. It was a horrible and stressful experience. Informing the owner of my experience resulted only in his making excuses for USG's bad actions with no apology whatsoever. ***And because I posted my review, the owner Dimitri vindictively told me that he would no longer stand behind the plants or the work done to make things right. He didn't like my honest review. Prior to my review, he was willing to make right his failures, if needed. It is disappointing that UGC is unable to acknowledge its mistakes or shortcomings, and that they do not know how to interact with customers.
