This is always a spot for my family to meet up for a quick breakfast. I believe they are under new management and you can tell that things have changed they are very understaffed. There was only 1 waitress for the whole restaurant and all though she did a great job manning the tables,you could tell she was overwhelmed. The food was decent but it did take someone at our table about 10mins to receive their pancakes while the other food started to get cold on the table. While is is a hometown favorite and the waitress always seems to remember my family, we will be looking for a new place to dine. read more

I've never been the only customer in a restaurant before, but I'm glad I decided to stop. You can order anything on the menu as long as they're open. Breakfast for lunch, ribs for breakfast- they don't care. The server was friendly and even though she was also sweeping the floor and straightening things up, she never forgot about me. My eggs(over easy) were just right and the fruit ( which I thought was included) was fresh and flavorful. My only complaint was the toast was burnt- actually it was black. But since I put my eggs over it, it was edible- but I couldn't touch the second piece. It takes a lot for me to send food back, so by the time the waitress saw the toast and offered to make me more- I was full. It's a little difficult to get in the parking lot, cuz it's on a corner, but it's a nice, reasonably priced, family restaurant. read more

The food was good and prices are somewhat reasonable. The service was awful though, the man child that waited on us was the worst. They should have let him keep washing dishes. Stopped in for a quick dinner and we were the only ones in the restaurant. Lucky for us that meant, great service. The restaurant offers a large dining area with lots of tables. It is outdated and seemed a little grungy for my liking. The waitress was friendly, but almost too friendly. I think she would have sat down at the table with us if we offered. She did keep us laughing though! They have an extensive menu, which always makes me nervous. IMHO you should offer a few things and do them well. I decided to order breakfast food, which is served all day. I got eggs, bacon, potatoes and pancakes. Needless to say this was a heaping amount of food. It didn't blow me away, but it filled me up! I decided to check this restaurant out after a family member referred me here. I was in town for a wedding and wanted to take my nana out since I hadn't seen her in a while. We arrived around 11 AM on a Saturday afternoon. It wasn't too busy, but my nana said that it gets pretty busy on Sunday mornings/afternoons (after church). We were greeted by a friendly Shawnda who also ended up being our waitress. She was great - super welcoming and very attentive! My nana and I both ordered the Kentucky meal which is two eggs, two sausage patties, hashbrowns, and biscuits and gravy for only $8.99! ONLY $8.99 for a plate that is larger than your head! We both had leftovers (that's how large the portions are)! The food was a little bland, but nothing that salt, pepper, hot sauce, and a little ketchup cannot fix. Came here with my parents and brother before flying out of town. It was a Sunday at lunch and although the parking lot looked busy, there really weren't that many tables full. We were quickly brought menus and water. The menu is huge. Luckily, I did not want breakfast food so I was able to move past the first three pages or so. I settled on the spaghetti parmesan as did my dad. My mom chose a fish dish and my brother had jambalaya stir fry. Three of us got soup with our meals and all selected chicken enchilada. It was pretty good. The bread with butter was also good. Our main dishes eventually arrived and they all looked good. My dad and I had the same opinion on the spaghetti parmesan, we were not impressed. It was nothing special at all. It came with garlic bread which was wheat bread toasted, buttered with garlic powder or salt. My brother's dish seemed disappointing as well. He said he was really hungry but after eating a bit of it, stopped. He later said that if it was better, he would have eaten a lot more. Mom's fish seemed to be fine. We also got ice cream with our meal. The service was interesting. The waitress was filling the jelly and sugar at the table next to us and would yell over asking if we needed anything. So personable...haha! We had to ask for our ice cream options. Overall, not that great of a place. read more

Family knows best! :) My in-laws live close to the Renaissance Restaurant. As a result, this eatery has been a regular family hang-out ever since. Renaissance has the feel of a traditional waffle or pancake house; I think this is the best to describe it. However, the menu is not limited to breakfast. The offerings include a large selection of all three meals, with something for everyone. My favorite is the breakfast menu. Everything is great starting with the pancakes, to the eggs, to the bacon and those hash browns. Yummy! The dishes are usually large, so you get your monies worth. The service has always been good. Seating is spaciousness, so large parties (8+) would do fine here. More importantly, the prices here are low and affordable. I like Renaissance Restaurant a lot; low costs with good, filling eats. read more

Simple classic food. I really like this place, and my teen and I go there nearly every week for Sunday breakfast. The waitresses were friendly from the start, and by our third visit they greeted us like old friends and started asking after us if we missed a week. The food is well-prepared old-fashioned diner food with a few modern twists, and they are able to accommodate my mother's wheat allergy. The outside of the building doesn't look like much, but as soon as you enter the dining area it's bright and comfy, with booths along 3 walls, a variety of table sizes, and even a smaller private area for meetings. Renaissance is a true gem in a part of town that has little to choose from. read more

Return visit. I've become a regular when I get back to the Fort. My mom's favorite breakfast go to. Can't say I blame her. Hands on owner & friendly staff. Had breakfast there 3 times in one week, lol. Omelette specials, had a veggie & a ham & cheese. Came with homemade pico, hash browns, toast & coffee. 3rd time had the 1/2 chicken fried steak with biscuits & gravy. All were $5. Great breakfast, service & prices. Now, the food is good, the portions are big and the cost is reasonable. $5.99 breakfast specials, cheap lunches. A great call on the South Side. Not sure I would call it Italian. Ive been going here since it was originally a Big Boy . This place has some of the friendliest waitresses you will ever find! Contrary to what someone said here, this place is very clean and I have never, repeat never seen a bug (other than a fly) in here. Now I must say, this place does have a large selection of food. I think that breakfast is probably their forte. Sadly I have noticed that prices have been steadily rising over the past year and the quality of food has diminished somewhat. Well if you like seafood and a lot of it? Come here on a Saturday or Sunday night! I had the Stuffed flounder. Loaded with cabmeat stuffing accompanied by rice pelaif or baked potatoe and a dynamite salad. The menu is huge and if you like Greek food or just some good ole American dishes this is a good choice. Nice clean Facility and pleasant staff. If you go away hungry you might need a gastric by-pass lol. The average appetite will get disfunctified no problem! read more

Wait, how is this place still open? I swore off eating here after I got some ridiculously bad food poisoning. I had family visit recently and they visited Renaissance (without me of course. I won't step foot inside again.) They complained about how dirty it was, bugs crawling everywhere. Renaissance should be your last choice for dinning in the area. Tried it today while we were in town visiting a friend and took her here for her birthday. Decor seemed a little dated as first impressions go, but easily overlooked if the food is great. Unfortunately, it was not. The "New" Steak sandwich featured in the menu was ok at best. A little tough and not much flavor. I asked for medium and it came out well done. My wife sent hers back due to a funny flavor and to the staff's credit they quickly replaced it with her second choice. The breakfast selection was average but nothing to rave about either. The fries were pretty good and crispy, lemon grass chicken soup average to poor, portion size good for average adult. The service was good and the hostess and waitress friendly. Prices were high for the quality of food and therefore my impression of the overall value was low. Though I hate to judge by a single visit, I would probably choose another place during future trips to the area. read more

The menu is full of excellent options! Ive gone a few times for breakfast and once for lunch. The fruit topped waffles were delicious. Waitress was very nice and kept my coffee topped up the entire time. Owner is very personable, came by and said hello. My lunch choice was a sandwich of some kind (grilled chicken i believe) and the side salad was fresh and tasty! Great family or friends ambience. Clean and comfortable seating.
