It was actually my friend who stayed at the Renaissance Amsterdam on his Amsterdam trip back in 2019 that put this hotel on the radar for me. I probably would have found it on my own anyways, but it was his very positive review of the Renaissance that sold me on staying here. Figured that I should check this hotel out even for one day since I will actually be staying here for a week this coming October. First things first, the service here is fantastic! I actually stopped by here on the Wednesday I got to Amsterdam to leave my bags while I checked out the city, despite not actually checking in here until the following Monday. They had no problems with that whatsoever! Then I also bought some very expensive stuff at De Bijenkorf nearby, and they were kind enough to store that for me until Monday when I could retake possession of it. Unfortunately they weren't able to give me a complimentary room upgrade with my Ambassador Elite status since they said the room was almost fully booked, but they did end up giving me free breakfast. Can't complain about that! Thankfully, this room was very American in style. I have been in Amsterdam a few times now, and let me tell you know how SUPER ANNOYING it is to have to climb super steep stairs to get to your room. Definitely not to be found here! Not the biggest room, but it enough room for a king bed, a computer desk, and two extra seats for relaxing. The bathroom was about what I would expect from an American-sized hotel bathroom, which means it's probably way bigger than European standards. So the hotel itself is nice, but the real reason I chose the Renaissance Amsterdam is because of its location. It is SO close to Amsterdam Centraal, like six minutes walking close. And anyone who's been to Amsterdam knows that Centraal controls EVERYTHING if you want to use public transportation. Lugging my suitcase to Centraal wasn't too bad when the walk was only six minutes. Other than that, because it is centrally located, you can pretty much walk anywhere and it's not too far. Also, the free breakfast was basically everything I had hoped for. It was a buffet that had all the ingredients for a full English breakfast! Had an omelet bar, meats and cheeses, even smoked salmon. No complaints from me on this one. Even though I stayed here for less than a day, I definitely felt like I made the most of this stay. I cannot WAIT to come back in October and stay here for a week. Going to be living large and I'm here for it!

Really nice hotel that is undergoing some serious renovations. It is very centrally located, close to centraal station but please bear in mind if you're coming from the train you will have to drag your luggage over cobblestone roads which makes the short trip from centraal station seem WAY longer than it actually is. Once you get to the hotel the service is FANTASTIC! If they see you outside dragging luggage and looking like you've been hit by a bus - hello transcontinental flights - the concierges (thank you DZ! Thank you for all of your help! )come out, scoop up you and your luggage, get you waters to drink and deposit you at the check in. Concierges (again, thank you DZ!) are super fabulous, check in is easy and quick and the lobby bar is literally only feet away (2 for 1 happy hour from 5-6pm every day!). Rooms are comfortable, beds are great but please understand that the renovations are ongoing. It never bothered us because they don't happen at all on the weekends and don't start until about 8am during the week, ending at 5? maybe 6 in the evening. We are NOT early risers but the renovations haven't bothered us at all because you don't come here to lie in bed anyway! If you have club access the buffet breakfast is really good and VERY substantial. Made to order omelettes and eggs, on the hot bar you have bacon, sausage, a veggie (some days cooked spinach, some days cooked mushrooms or baked beans), potatoes of some sort, small pancakes and tiny Liege waffles. There are platters of fresh veggies and fruit, cheeses, hams, smoked salmon, smoked mackerel and other meats (if you eat pork the ham is spectacular), cereals, yogurts and some chocolate looking thing. There are always fresh loaves of bread for slicing and toasting, fresh pastries and croissants. Please people, especially my US brothers and sisters, please for the love of GOD and all that is holy DO NOT GRAB THE WHOLE BREADS WITH YOUR BARE HANDS! The staff puts lovely napkins RIGHT THERE for you to use instead of your grubby hands! I see AMERICANS do this every damned day and I want to go up and just smack them a bit. Just because you do it at home does not make it ok to do in polite society. USE A FREAKING NAPKIN! It's literally RIGHT THERE! One of the coolest things I've seen here this trip is the fact that instead of little disposable cups to put jam in, they have what is actually an edible cup. Think ice cream cone type cup to put jam in. Cool and edible! Love, love LOVE the staff here, they're amazing and speak 20+ languages! Lars, Nidia, Winnie, Alina, Simona and all of the bar staff (I can't remember all their names!) are just wonderful as are the concierges. Amazing service!

As much of a party as Amsterdam was, I don't have any quirky thought starters for this review, so I'll share what I remember and hope it helps... Observation: There is a disparity between Google and Yelp reviews. Conclusion: Y'all pickier! FYI - We were in a suite for almost a week including New Year's Eve, so rates were higher even with club discounts. I do recommend this spot for the location and the vibe. THE LOCATION (walking distance to): Central station Canal boat tour departure Red Light District Drug stores (but like, real drugs) Anne Frank House Heineken Experience de Bijenkorf (luxe shopping) Dam Square Van Gogh Museum Ice Bar & Museum of Torture (and other various tourist traps we fell for) THE VIBE: Artsyish lobby Friendly and helpful staff Tokyo Milk bath products Decent sized suite Vending machine with sparkling wine and beer Cute cafe/bar OPPORTUNITIES? Rooms could use a refresh. And 24 hour room service? - Um, notsomuch, like ordering was such a challenge via app or phone we used Doordash. IN SUMMARY: Vier sterren. Ja ik zou terugkeren.

Quite possibly the loudest hotel room I have ever stayed in & when I mentioned it to the front desk, they basically said that's too bad. People were having conversations and/or screaming under my window through the night. If you are on the first floor on the outer wall, refuse the room.

Pros: -great location for sight seeing; located in central Amsterdam, so you are walking distance to Anne Frank House, Central Station, shopping, restaurants -24 hour fitness center -comfortable bed -water bottles in room Cons: -standard rooms on the smaller side and no view -kitchen did not open until 8am despite menu saying 7am on Sundays; so no breakfast before heading to the airport -on the pricey side -could hear rowdy people in the hallways

We enjoyed our stay before and after our cruise. It was under construction. The view from the windows were a bit obscured by the renovation. The room itself is very nice and the staff was very accommodating to our large party and many bags. We were able to store our bags when we arrived as the rooms were not all ready. On our departure they secured us a van to transport us to the airport.

Hole made by mouse trying to get to my protein bars in my suitcase.

The pictures of this property on-line are lovely. When we arrived in early November for a 3 night stay and found the vast majority of the hotel under major renovation. My husband has the highest tier status with Marriott and we were assigned a room that was described as an upgrade. It was not. The restaurant was barely adequate, very limited menu-all though they did have delicious tomato soup. The hotel staff was also very nice. We were willing to put up with the construction noise which started early but we checked out less 24 hours after we arrived. We were awakened at 3am by a strange noise coming from my carry on bag. My husband threw a shoe at the bag and out ran a MOUSE, who had been helping himself to protein bars that were sealed in there individual packages and in a baggy. Sleep was not possible knowing there was at least one rodent in the room. We shut it in the bathroom where it went under the sink casing. We packed and went downstairs early. The hotel was full which was fine; we no longer wanted to stay as we did not know how prevalent mouse issue was. We found accommodations on our own, down the street at the Westin-highly recommend! We paid for the taxi to take us to the new hotel. The manager at the Renaissance was nice but it took us 2 weeks to recoup our points and that was only after numerous phone calls to the hotel and finally some help from Bonvoy. We were not asking for anything extra, just a refund of our points. Lesson learned-call your hotel before booking and see if they are under major renovation and if so, book elsewhere. This hotel is in a great location so hopefully things will improve when they have completed renovations.

A good stay that could have been great. Three nights end of March 2022. Was upgraded to a Club room due to Bonvoy status. Hotel room was available at 8am on day of arrival - a great bonus after a red eye flight. Location is excellent with most locations walkable within 45 minutes. Room was average size with zero view to speak of. Breakfast buffet was a great spread of food with egg station for custom orders. The lounge was finally open and we were able to use that for light evening appetizers and beer/wine/soft drinks. The concierge was very helpful and assisted with tours, etc. including how and where to get tested so we could return to the US. Why four stars? The housekeeping sucked. We were gone for 9 hours one day and they didn't show up until we complained. Took 3 days to get a non-Down pillow. On another day housekeeping was completely AWOL. There is a small cafe sort of attached to hotel - Kopelcafe. Food was nice but pricey. I just feel that there are so many better options in the city. All in all, I wouldn't mind staying here again if I'm in Amsterdam.

It hadn't changed since Mata Hari (First World War female spy) had stayed there. As we were visiting Amsterdam again I decided, on this trip, to spoil us a little. On booking I was a little concerned that the Hard Rock organisation had taken this hotel over. So with trepidation I took the chance. OK, remember, we are oldies so can be hard to please some tell us. On arrival, the outside hadn't changed other than the bar now stretched out a little and there was service from the restaurant outside. Reception was so swift by a fantastic bubbly young lady who sorted out a room although we were three hours before the normal signing in. I wish I could remember her name. Walking to our room I noticed the architecture hadn't changed but the decoration was wonderful with so much rock music memorabilia. We LOVED it. The room, overlooking the canal, was a lot smaller than years ago but, shrug, space has to be filled. The room was more than adequate with a wonderful bathroom with walk-in shower. Breakfast was in the dining hall which was a high-light years ago. I was so pleased to see that none of the wonderful art deco had been lost. The President Hotel in Prague had ripped it all out there, sob. Here, there was modernisation, but the windows, walls and lights remained. Obviously the designer had looked and thought 'wow, we can't get rid of this'. Good on him/her. A fantastic stay and on our next visit we know where to stay. Really wish I could remember that young ladies name because she made that day for us. Hi

As soon as my cab stopped in front, a man immediately came down the stairs to help me with my bag and escort me to the check in area. They asked if I wanted anything to drink and I said of course champagne! They gave me two! I checked in with Lisa who was amazing! She had me pick out a scent for my room. What? I didn't know that existed! Super fun! My room wasn't ready because I had booked late even though it was 3pm but I didn't mind waiting, especially when they gave me that 2nd glass of champagne. When I got my room, Lisa and Fae escorted me to the room to make sure I liked it and it was beautiful. I loved how the light came into the bathroom. On that note the bathtub was so nice I almost fell asleep in it! You receive welcome chocolates in the shape of Amsterdam shoes which were so cute and delicious! I ordered room service as the bar only served snacks and did not want to go to the restaurant by myself as it was really open. I got the Waldorf Astoria Burger which was amazing and so good! I'd go back to this hotel just for that burger itself. The next day I also had the breakfast and was able to get the whole tray of assortments and all the juices and coffee I wanted PLUS another dish! All complimentary with my Hilton Diamond status. I ordered the French toast and everything was delicious! Obviously I couldn't eat it all but was able to take some left to the room for later. I also had a spa appointment while here. Massage was great and the masseuse mentioned to see a physical therapist to help my lower back pain that I was complaining about as she said it was coming from my glutes, legs, knees. I've seen a couple of masseuses in the last two years in the states and one in Canada and NONE had ever even mentioned that that could help. I love this! Very professional staff. The spa also very serene with sauna, jacuzzi, and pool. They have a door to the garden which I'm assuming is beautiful in summer but I was here in February so it was freezing! When I checked out it was with Lisa again and she was great as usual and the guys helped me with my bags again when my uber came. They let me sit in the other room and said they'd let me know when it was here. Very nice. I did not want to leave. Haha!

You Get What You Pay For…read more I bartended for Hard Rock Cafe for 12 years. I love rock and roll, so when I saw this hotel it definitely jumped out at me. I will list the positives first since there are not that many: 1. The dayshift employee (cannot remember his name) was a very nice man. He recommended great vegan restaurants and was super cool. We actually ate at his recommendations for the remainder of our stay. He booked our taxi for us the night before our departure and was very hospitable. 2. The hotel lobby is set up like a bar/lounge with a pool table and it's cozy. 3. I liked the use of musical instruments such as a drum stool for a chair in the room and the drum light fixtures in the room. It adds to the theme of the hotel. 4. It was walking distance to a lot of cool places. Negatives: 1. Amsterdam is an old city with cute old buildings. I get it. We stayed at another hotel which was also an old building (and had a very slow elevator; but still had an elevator). This hotel had nearly 90-degree stairs to carry 50 lb. luggage up four flights of stairs (we called them ladders). I could not imagine anyone with a disability or elderly ever staying there for their safety. Literally, the stairs were about 4 inches wide. I slipped on them. sober. 2. The clients mostly consisted of younger hipsters that we could hear stumbling in at night after drinks and the walls are paper thin. We even heard someone fart in the next room. 3. To drown out the noise of the other clients, my partner and I used a rain app on our smartphone so that we could get some sleep (let me add that it was currently pouring outside). We get a loud knock on our door, waking us at two o'clock in the morning by the nightshift employee, telling us to turn the rain sound down. This woke us up and we were literally trying to book a room at two o'clock in the morning at a different hotel due to his unprofessionalism. It's like, how about telling the clients that are actually making the noise to be more quiet? If you are a young and do not mind the paper-thin walls and the ladder stairs, the disgruntled night shift employee that patrols the halls for noise, and have minimal luggage, then I would recommend this place for the location. Otherwise, stay somewhere else.
