The drinks were yummy, and the food was absolutely delicious! I will say I went in expecting a larger selection of sushi and raw options, so the menu was a little different from what I had envisioned. That being said, everything we ordered was flavorful, beautifully prepared, and thoroughly enjoyed, so I definitely wasn't disappointed. They were noticeably short-staffed during our visit, so the service could have been better, but you could tell the staff was genuinely trying their best and working hard, which we appreciated. Overall, between the delicious food and drinks, beautiful setting, and peaceful atmosphere, Izanami was a really memorable stop on our Santa Fe trip. Returned less than a minute later to take my order, then proceeded to have great service afterward.. let me start with the spicy baby cucumbers: pretty tasty and a large serving, however I didn't think they were that spicy. The chile oil used is mostly oily with some not so spicy Chiles used (that could just be my heat tolerance) but nonetheless, they were delicious. The hot tea was fresh and he brought it out with water, which I appreciated.. I was however slightly disappointed in the Dan Dan Noodles, I didn't take a picture just because it honestly was served not too appetizing or picture perfect like most of the previous reviews. Everything was mixed together, and the meat was all in the bottom under all of the noodles. The flavor was pretty good, but I didn't get the normal Szechuan flavor or spiciness that I've had in the past at other places. I do love the fresh noodles, but the overall dish was a little underwhelming. I would have liked it to be a little more presentable, along with more of a noteworthy flavor other than meaty broth with some chile oil (again more on the oily side not so much spice). Overall, the experience was decent and good service. I will come back to try something else and maybe it just wasn't a dish for me.

The goodness continued with our server Mitzi, who should be teaching graduate classes in hospitality in every big city. She was friendly without being overbearing, informative without being pedantic, subtle and gracious. Now, the food! My wife chose the vegetarian tasting menu and I had some of each dish: so very flavorful (a green salad with pears, a life-changing mushroom bisque [and I don't like mushrooms!], a chickpea croquette with pickled artichoke hearts and ratatouille, and a substitution of the lemon crepe for three yummy scoops of sorbet and gelato. I chose the scallops, perfectly cooked and moist, over couscous, and a dish of tasty sauteed baby spinach. A wonderful experience, and not overpriced, and everyone treated us sweetly. The interior is classy and very comfortable. We were seated at a nice comfy corner booth. The soft music in the background was soothing and just noticeable enough without being a distraction. We were served complimentary flutes of local sparking wine and a fresh baked bread basket and butter to start. We then ordered cocktails and three starters. First was a split plate of the endive smoked duck salad with a warm bacon vinegarette. Wow...this was nice and refreshing. This was followed by the crab dumplings with fresh corn and peas and lobster sauce. Delicious! The final small plate was seared foie gras on top of banana bread toast. This was very good. I miss foie gras. Unfortunately, it's banned in California. They had a 2023 Sea Smoke "Ten"Pi ot Noir on the wine list. This is one of the best Pinot Noirs produced in California and not easy to find. This was a no doubter and we ordered a bottle to pair with our entrees. My wife ordered their signature elk tenderloin for redemption because the restaurant the night before failed at executing this. I ordered the tomahawk pork chop. This was cooked to perfection with a nice thin crust on the outside and a perfect very light pink juicy center. We ordered a side of brocolini that was pan roasted with shallots and butter. Everything was very good and Michelin grade in our opinion. Lastly we ended the evening and split the tiramasu type of desert. My wife had the expresso martini and I had an 18 year old Glen Morangie scotch neat. The service was excellent and worth the splurge. This is a must when visiting Santa Fe.

We attended a matinee performance in downtown Santa Fe on a Sunday with our teenage, twin grand-daughters. They enjoy Asian food, and requested we go to Kohnami. Everyone was happy with their meal choices, though I don't actually remember exactly what I ordered. Our food was delivered in good time, and we mostly caught up on family news while eating. Service was on top of things, as we were out in the main dining area, next to the sushi bar. A few weeks later, the girls requested we go there for their 16th birthday, a family celebration. We reserved a table for 9, and were seated in the very back of the restaurant, past the tatami rooms. Unfortunately, even though it was a Wednesday evening with not many patrons on hand and a 6:30 reservation, service was glacial. It was a full fifteen minutes before we were served water, and another ten minutes before anyone came for our orders. The drink orders came out sporadically and incompletely, and then our food started arriving in very unpredictable bursts. My beef teriyaki was served early on, but it was overcooked and difficult to eat with only chopsticks. The twins ordered noodle soups and sushi, and were very happy with their choices. Their grandfather, visiting from the Midwest, eventually had to get up and go inquire with the kitchen about his missing food order. In all, it took about 40 minutes for everyone to be served. Splitting the bill at the end turned out to be another ordeal, since they don't seem to have trained people on the cash register and we had to wait for a manager to help out. I know it's very difficult to get good restaurant help in these times. But there are some very basic rules of hospitality, and on this occasion Kohnami didn't manage to adhere to them. We're not writing them off, but we'll think twice about returning since Santa Fe is a gourmand's paradise.

The breakfast/brunch options looked amazing and were reasonably priced, but during our stay we did not end up eating here...we simply ran out of time! The space is within a shared work building right off the street, walkable from where we were staying and close enough to walk to the Plaza. I enjoyed walking here on a few mornings and getting the feel of what it might be like to be a local in town, while scanning the many clothing and other types of shops along the way. Overall I'd recommend this coffee shop for friendly vibes and yummy coffee drinks...but next time I'd add an extra shot to my latte.
