What a joke. They sold me a part that was repackaged by them, ensured me it would work and when it didn't, their response was that we shouldn't have tried to install the part knowing it was already opened. They refused to refund me my money for a faulty part they sold me. Also contacting the Better Business Bureau. If I could give no stars I would. Poor customer service and management. Talked to a nice woman at the call center, they had the Whirlpool WP 8566184 timer I needed in nearby Berkeley, so I paid high market for it, $220 something, + tax. 240-something, out the door. She told me the price up front. In my opinion, paying more for local stock is better than getting a bargain delivered 8-24 hours later, IMHO. Coulda saved half on line, and if price is your main driver, you'll buy one line. But I didn't. I shop where I want to shop next year. In person, the 3 staff at the store front were pleasant and had the part ready to go. I picked up the box, one of them gave me a box cutter and I verified it matched what I was replacing. Connector by connector and wire insulation color by wire insulation color. Just like I knew what I was doing. Balancing how nice and knowlegable everyone was against what I paid, I'm calling it "Great", 5 stars. I don't always enjoy this kind of thing. Going down to install it now. This place has most parts for household appliances and heaters. Very knowledgeable and helpful staff.

My washing machine started leaking late on a Saturday afternoon. I went to YouTube and look at how do determine where washing machines are leaking from, and found a great video about it. including how easy it is to take the washing machine apart to get to the guts. It takes about 2 minutes to remove the casing and expose everything. Next was looking at the areas where the leak is coming from, and the video I watched said the most common leak is the plastic pump that is driven by a motor. I removed the pump and could see that water had been dripping out of it, so on Monday morning, I drove to the Reliable Parts, gave them my $36, and they gave me the pump. I drove home and in 10 minutes I had the pump on and the machine back together. When I need appliance parts for dryers, washing machines, or even ovens, this store has the part that I need. I had a few experiences there. I don't have any problems with their products, but I would like to rate the service at this location. Staff is always rude, always misunderstand you, always mix up your orders, always take forever. You can tell the workers there don't care about their job and don't care about customers. Drove an hour with part in hand to give my money to a small business after confirming on the phone they have the type of parts I needed. Waited in line for another half hour. Got to the counter and was refused help to find my part because I didn't have the exact model the employee literally made no effort to help me and confirmed they had them in the store. He couldn't have been happier to turn me down. You wonder why Amazon is is closing small business ? Got the part cheaper from Amazon and didn't have to deal with any BS. what a waste of time. Like seriously, this place is a joke! My dryer knob came off. I came back here because this is where I got my dryer. The doors are closed, which is understandable. What is not understandable is that I called while outside and the guy would not even take a look at my knob to see if he has it in stock. I told him there were numbers on the knob but I couldn't read them and he said ' you cant read them?' like he was making fun of me. Yikes - I liked these guys, but I had to bust them from 5 to 3 stars. I have been going here for years, and they've been good. I still will continue to recommend them, BUT. I called them and got a quote for a Maytag dg312 gas valve coil kit - the person on the phone found part # 1200-1348 @ $125.00. The part on Amazon is $8, and includes 2 coils not 3. That should have been an immediate clue right there that this was the wrong set of parts. Later I went to their web page, and found a set of 3 coils for that dryer, for an ignition kit. Scrolling a little down the list, I found the correct part - the gas valve coils - for about $20. So it was just a clerical mistake, that cost me two days waiting for the part from Amazon. Could have been worse. Moral of story, be careful with any over the phone price quote, and check the part number and price if possible on line before plunking down a hundred plus for an 8 dollar part. read more

Reliable was recommended to us by our plumber when my husband needed a part to fix our stove. He called on a Friday and was told they had the part in Sacramento and that they would have it shipped to their Berkeley store to arrive Monday. He paid for the part. On Monday, he was told that for some reason, the part was now on will call in Sacramento. The person he spoke with apologized and said it would be shipped to Berkeley to arrive the next day. But on Tuesday, it was still in Sacramento and it was then that my husband realized the Berkeley number he was calling was actually linked to a call center in Texas. The guy at the call center said he would fix everything and have the manager of the Berkeley store call when it came in. The days went by. No one called us. We called. No one answered the phone. Maybe they were at lunch? Who knows. Ten days later the part is still on will call in Sacramento. It's an inexpensive part so maybe that makes it less important to the company. Now, I have to say to Tim C, who is understandably frustrated, I work in an industry (motorcycles) where more than one person almost daily will come in and say, "I need a gasket set for a Honda." I ask, "Which model?" "it's a HONDA". "Okay, sir, what year? Model?" "It's a HONDA, can't you find me a gasket set for a HONDA?" "Well, sir, I'd love to help you, but I have a listing of several hundred Hondas and each of them uses different parts. I need a model number and year of manufacture in order to find you parts for it." "Well, how much is a gasket set?" (I sigh, he's not going to know which set he needs, either, not that I can look it up anyway) "Okay, which gasket set do you need" "The one for the engine" "Which part of the engine?" "Why can't you just find me a gasket set?" "Because you don't know which set you need." "You're an idiot., I'm never shopping here again!" "Hey, I'm not the person who doesn't know what fucking motorcycle they have." Tim C., once you have this same damned conversation or variation thereof, several hundred times, you start handing out a piece of paper and a pencil ... On that note, I do agree that Reliance employees can be terse. And I think they might have explained that to you rather than be rude. Also, I tried calling to make sure they had the part in stock, and waited through their long ringing before I was put to a national phone system NOT at that store. I've been going to these folks for probably 20+ years. They almost always have what I need, and if not they can order it and it arrives promptly. As others have said, they primarily serve repair folks who come in knowing what they need, so they don't necessarily have lots of time. Just write down the make and model number of your appliance, and the part you need, and they'll find it for you. If you haven't been there in a while, make a note that they have moved around the corner from their San Pablo Avenue location. Park in the Orchard Parking lot (enter from Ashby or 9th near Berkeley Bowl), then walk through the hallway at the east side of Orchard (look for the sign). Their storefront faces on Ashby, but there's not parking out there (ah, longing for the days before Ashby was a freeway). read more

I call to ask for tines for a dishwasher, and they were completely unhelpful. Part is not made and I am recommended to go into the store and ask them to find some. I do and they do as little to help as possible. "We don't know when we have stuff we don't know any of the right parts, we don't know what other brands could be used instead"...and the best comment: "why don't you ask a repairman?" I will never return here, what terrible service. Almost none of the parts were available in Berkeley, almost everything was available in Sacramento. (Including a small dishwasher part that I was told on the phone yesterday they had available in all stores) I go to the store for good in person service, and to get something right away. We had a wonderful experience with Reliable Parts recently. My mom has a rather old Rheem furnace, and its motor decided to stop working. We tried multiple stores in the area, including Appliance Parts Distributors, and no one could find the correct replacement. Apparently, the part was too old and the design had completely changed facing in the newer furnaces. Finally, we called Reliable Parts after one of the other parts places recommended them to us. Elizabeth Little handled our request, and went above and beyond what we would have expected, spending significant amounts of time searching for a part that would match. Finally, she found one that she thought would be a good match, and called to let us know. The price was affordable, and the piece is a perfect replacement! I'm siding with Heather on this one. This is a great old school no nonsense one of a kind store. We go there for the parts we need. I don't need a smile and a cupcake and a hand holding session. This is an odd one. I ordered a part on the Reliable Parts website but when I received it damaged, I was told that they didn't sell it. Oooookay. So who did? Luckily, I was connected with a customer service agent named Amy who was very helpful and told me that I ordered it on their website but they sent it to Partsips.com and that it was mailed by SKG Holdings. Oh boy. I called SKG Holdings and it is the answering machine of an East Indian man. Oh no, I'll never hear back. Then I called Partsips.com and it said that the number was not in service. The next day Amy called back with a number that I COULD reach someone at Partsips.com. I spoke to a rep there and I had to send pictures of the broken item via email and was promised a refund. We'll see. It all sounds rather shady to me. It was mailed from Reliable to Partsips and they, in turn, sent it to me. It's all very confusing as my order receipt said 'Reliable Parts' in the header. It's all very confusing but I am very thankful that Amy helped me out. I will add a note when/if I ever receive a refund. read more

I've been here twice, to get a gasket for a fridge, and to get a part to fix a malfunctioning gas range. It's for people who fix appliances for a living, but I'm just someone who would rather fix something myself, so I try to do as much research as I can. For the gas range, the replacement part was $170 online, but I also read that the part (a gas igniter) was kind of generic. I took a picture of it, and Maria was able to figure it out and get the right part for only $70. Fixing stuff isn't easy, and selling the thousands of parts that live in your appliances isn't either, so I'm not sure if other reviews were looking at this realistically. read more

Only one problem: if you go in cold to explain your problem, or say your handyman recommended him, he'll interrupt you in MID SENTENCE and hand you a slip to go write down the make and model number of what you want...no more questions allowed...just leave and come back with the information he wants...don't waste his time...so you know what? We ordered the valve for the knob of my LG stove on 07/29/2013 at Reliable Parts in Berkeley since we have just moved in town. They told us the the part will be available in 2 weeks. After we called on this date, they said it was not available for another week, and the same answer for every subsequent week . On 09/11/2013, they called and told us there might be a similar one , but the price would be double. That means for a long period of 6 weeks in waiting the price is double. Customer be aware for this kind of business. If there is minus star, we will post for them also.We figure out that we can order on line by going direct to LP part store or Sears Parts and chat with the customer service. I want to like this place. I have bought so many things over the last 7 years but one thing that hasn't changed is the customer service. These dudes are quite often rude on the phone, and or rude in person. It's frustrating because I think about the everyday person who has a busted appliance and heavily researched what the problem could be, takes apart the appliance to get the part with the hopes that everything works so they don't have to shell out whatever amount of money to buy a new one and gets treated like an idiot at a parts store by dudes who haven't turned a wrench. Not everyone can just buy a new one and that's why this business exists. The everyday man walks in or calls in to be treated like they're stupid. I know how to fix many things but I don't know parts and I'll admit that and that's why I go to them. They know parts but I wonder if they can install any of the parts they are selling. Every person has their skills and nobody should be treated like these dudes treat people. This review is based on 30+ encounters and 1000s of dollars of purchases. Step it up fellas. I don't want to have to tell you that you all are glorified cashiers who punch numbers in a computer to find what I need. I've been directed to this place a number of times by various hardware and electronic stores around the east bay, but the referrals always been rather qualified and my experiences there have generally been mixed. This place has a good selection of bits and parts, but you may not find what you need even if they have it on hand. As is the norm for these kinds of parts stores, you can't browse through most of the stock and are reliant on a customer care rep to help you find what you need. While the reps have always been very nice when I've been by, they seem to be limited to searching for particular part/model numbers in their computer. If any number of parts/products could work to achieve your goal, then you need someone with a rather encyclopedic understanding of the stock that's on hand who can think critically and creatively about what they have that might fulfill your design parameters. I understand that that's a tall order, and tends to only be fulfilled at smaller places where the staff has been there for many years and have lots of experience as builders and repairpersons themselves or where the store owner/manager spends a lot of their time on the floor, so I can't fault this place too much for not having that. Still though, all of my experiences there have been limited to "Do you know what the part number is that you're looking for?" and a willingness to browse alongside me through whatever relevant section of the small retail floor I've already investigated before approaching them in the first place. I had a lengthy call with the manufacturer's customer service who quoted a price plus shipping (and identified the incorrect replacement part, as I discovered later). ABSOLUTE RIPOFF I normally do not go out of my way to write bad reviews. In fact, you can check my profile and see that I've had this account for years and years and while I visit many businesses on a daily basis, rarely do I ever post anything on Yelp. But after my first (and last) visit to this establishment, I was absolutely HORRIFIED at the exorbitant markup they attempted to charge me. I went in, looking for a thermostat for my Whirlpool Refrigerator: specifically, a part #2198202. The man at the desk took my request and returned with a properly packaged part, from Whirlpool, and proceeded to tell me that the total charge would be $90.23. When I asked how a small, relatively simple, part could be so expensive, he managed to rattle on and on about how the part was "rare", "not sold by the manufacturer anymore", and that "that's just what the price is". Not knowing any better, I bought the part, but having my doubts, as soon as I got home I tried my hand at seeing if Whirlpool did, in fact, sell the part. (and at what price) Imagine the look on my face when I saw that WHIRLPOOL ITSELF was selling the part, online, for $26.77 AND was offering FREE shipping! That means that this store tried to charge me about a 250% markup over the manufacturer's listed price! Immediately, I ordered the part online and returned to the store for a refund. Not only that, but Whirlpool assured me that if I installed the part and it wound-up not fixing my problem, I could return the part for a refund, no questions asked. (Whereas if I kept the part from "Reliable Parts", any chance of a refund would be void as soon as I opened the packaging) Needless to say, I will NEVER be returning to this place again and I will advise anyone in the area looking for appliance parts to stay as far away from this place as possible. I understand if a local, brick and mortar store needs to charge a little extra to keep the lights on. But charging me $90.23 for a part that i wound up getting shipped to my door, two days later, for a mere $26.77... that's just unacceptable. Avoid this store at all costs! read more
