Brought a almost new Trek bike in for service with rubbing front disc brakes, was told it was a…read morebent front rotor, spent over $100 for all new discs and I thought all new pads. I had the same rubbing problem when I got it back, took it back in and was told the Tektro brakes don't work well in cold weather cause of the fluid, which wasn't true since it had been sitting in their shop all night. And was told they needed bleeding. Decided to just do it myself and pulled the pads on the front brake that were rubbing, and realized they were the original Tektro pads and weren't replaced, unlike the rear, which doesn't make a lot of sense. Cleaned the pistons with alcohol, exercised them, and oiled them up and solved the problem myself.

I've gotten a flat tire every time I ride my bike. This last time they said to come back if it happened again and they'd keep trying to figure out the problem, but when I came back this fourth time, they wanted me to buy a new rim, offered no apology, offered no discount, offered no assurances that this would fix the bike, and didn't even look me up in their system to see what has been tried in the past. I asked for a discount, given that this is my 4th time attempting to fix the same problem, and also asked what would happen if getting a new rim didn't work, and was told that I should get a new bike if this doesn't work. I will be taking our bikes elsewhere for repairs.

I am still riding 2 Marinoni bikes I bought in 1987 and 88 and I consistently race on them and have won MI State Masters Track Championships for 2011 and 2012 on my Marinoni Pista they fitted and had made for me 1988. They provided track components and wool bike clothing when such things were not popular or to be seen in any other shops. Dave always looked out for me and provided Italian products that suited my taste and budget. The Winooski Bicycle Shop was also the hub to serious racers. Dave and Gene were real mentors and inspired me with their vast cycling and racing experience. They saw me on my way to the Montreal Olympic Velodrome for the first time and evan attended my races. The bike I bought from Hank at Chuck's Bike's turned out to as perfect for me as I had hoped. But what I wasn't aware of at the time was that this bike purchase turned out to provide me with the best retail experience I've ever had in my 55 years of life. For Hank, the customer comes first before his own needs. He wants the customer to have a bike that fits right, that is appropriate for the type of riding they will do, and wants that person leaving his shop thinking that everything was done to make him or her happy. I spent a fair amount of time at Chuck's Bikes the day I purchased. I never felt rushed. I discussed with Hank and his 2 employees the best ways to make the bike fit and work for me. All three were patient, extremely knowledgable and kind. I couldn't believe how busy this small bike shop was that day. But I can see way. I can totally understand why Chuck's Bikes is the only store I've come across with a 5/5 rating. I think most of us who have shopped there would double that score if we could.
