Getting arches/foot imprinted
Stephanie S.

I've come into OGE in the past to buy gear for myself or as gifts. They will always honor a price seen elsewhere, which is excellent. As I have been skiing on and off over the last thirty years, not having lived in a place where I had consistent skiing until I purposefully moved to VT to do so, I've had a foot problem I'd neglected to fix until now. I get severe foot pain when I ski and the pain travels up my calves. I end up playing hot potato with my boots, trying to get the pain to settle down to a dull roar. In my regular shoes, I've worn orthotics since I was 14. The only footwear they can't go in are my ice skates, roller blades, and ski boots. I tried over the years to have orthotics made for this purpose in DC and they were always too thick and still painful. Again, not living in areas where I skied all the time, I think I just chalked it up to different factors that I couldn't control. I just skied as fast as I could to get on the chairlift to try and get the pain to go away. Not exactly the most enjoyable way to ski. This year, I decided I needed to do something different because the pain was so bad. Huge difference skiing long trails every weekend and wanting to challenge myself more and falling short. The pain had become debilitating. It was suggested to me to see a boot fitter. So I called to make an appointment at OGE to have my boots looked at. Sam L was my fitter and he listened carefully to my concerns. He looked over my boots and suggested we try to add foam in them initially, to see if that helped, as they were slightly too big. He said based on how that went, he could then make me custom ski boot orthotics. I spoke to my podiatrist in Syracuse who said to have OGE make them. A local PT also said to have a ski boot fitter make them, so I knew this was the right choice. The foam helped; I had an awesome ski day without much pain at all, but it was clear I needed more, so I made another appointment. In the interim, I was diagnosed with tendonitis and plantar fasciitis, so I got two weeks of laser treatments and massage for my feet. Sam explained the process to me and for the next 90 minutes, I had my feet measured, put on the machine to determine each foot's actual arch and shape, then to form the orthotics to my feet, get them made, get my boots reheated to mold to the new orthotic and off I went. Easy-peasy. I have now skied 4 times on these new orthotics. I have had NO foot pain. I've never felt more stable, more COMFORTABLE skiing ever. Supposedly I could put these in my blades and skates, but I'd rather save the money and get a second pair made, as I don't want to mess with my ski boots. This was the best $150 investment I could have made. Thank you, Sam L and OGE for offering this service.

This is your quintessential outdoor gear shop! OGE is conveniently located on Burlington's Church Street in the midst of all the other stores. This store has anything you could need for all of the outdoor sports/activities you can enjoy in this region. On the main floor you will find a TON of footwear, it's nice that they have a ramp to test shoes on. As someone that used to hike a ton in New York's High Peaks, the last thing you want is to find out you have a blister 3 miles into a grueling hike and your new boots are tearing up your heels. Skiing is a popular activity up here, the store sells a decent amount of ski and snowboarding gear. I also spotted bikes canoes, kayaks and so much more. There is often a sale tent outside the store, so that's worth looking through. I also found a section downstairs with either pre-owned or clearance goods. I personally love Yeti tumblers for keeping water cool, this store carries a lot of that type of inventory and some items were on sale. Even if you aren't sporty, there are still a lot of great shoes and clothing to check out here. The store is great, but a bit on the pricey side. Still it's nice to support local businesses and that seems to be the ethos in this area.

Pure awesomeness!!!

I ordered some tele-whacking boots on Amazon. At first, I misread my order confirmation and it said I had ordered 28.5 and not 30.5 mondo. I quickly found the seller info (Outdoor Gear Exchange) and called, not realizing it was 5:48pm EST. Hannah answered my call as they were still open until 6pm and was able to track my order, telling me the order actually reflected my correct size and they would be shipped the next day. I asked Hannah if it was possible to get a sticker since I'm prone to stick them all over the flat surfaces of my garage? Hannah told me no problem and a "couple" would be thrown in the box for me. I received my boots last night and of course was excited to open the box and check them out. Low and behold, there was two handwritten notes (zoom in on pic), along with an envelope with about TWO DOZEN stickers in there!!!! I won't even complain about the Sierra Nevada beer sticker () they included. You guys are absolutely amazing and I wanted to truly thank Hanna for her awesome customer service and the others who put the smile on my face with all those stickers!!!! You guys rock!!!!

We found some nice UV proof beach shirts for our daughter. I also liked a t-shirt and a winter fleece, but the size didn't fit me. So we bought the kid's t-shoes from the store. As expected the prices were on the higher end, as it's Patagonia. But the quality totally makes up for the price. The staff assisted us with fitting rooms, size queries and checkout process. They were very friendly and helpful.

I had been thinking about buying a Fjallraven Kanken backpack (you know the one, the adorable square backpack that looks like a little kid's bag) for awhile so it was neat to see them in person and all the different colors. They also have lots of outdoor gear, other backpacks, apparel, and a sale area in the lower level. We stopped in twice during our long weekend in Burlington and the employees were really helpful and friendly, offering to show us any color of bag we could imagine and explaining some of the features of some of the products. The store is large and fully stocked with anything you need to be a cool Swedish hipster in nature! The products they sell are pretty pricey but the backpack we got is guaranteed for life and is water-resistant due to the beeswax coating. I really enjoyed checking out this shop and was impressed by the knowledge and friendliness of the staff.

Arrived as it was leaving with another customer. I was very interested in a kayak Umiak advertised on their website. I called and spoke to Brian on Sunday to confirm it was there. He advised it was there. I explained that I was VERY interested and was concerned it would be sold before I could come see it. I was assured it was fine and not to be concerned. Monday we had a snow storm. I called and spoke to Brian. I explained I was really wanted that kayak and was worried it would be sold before I could get there. I provided Brian with my credit card info etc. and asked if he could consider it SOLD. He took all my info and said he wouldn't charge the card until I got there but that the Kayak was mine. I spoke to another person there Tuesday and explained that, as it was a 14' kayak, I'd like to come with a trailer but couldn't be there until Saturday. I was assured that my name was on that kayak, they had even just wiped it down for me and it would be ready for me Saturday. I explained again that I was concerned about it being sold before I could get there but was assured it was fine. Saturday I arrived just as the kayak I had "purchased" was leaving in the bed of another persons pickup. Brian apologized, said he had messed up, etc. none of which does me any good. A specific trip was made to Stowe. If I'd had any indication I should get there earlier I would have. I'm not sure if this is incompetence or a lack of ethics on their end but unfortunately I, as a consumer, have no recourse but to complain. Maybe someone in the future will be aware that this is not a business that lives up to it's word.

They said the best they could do is $579.99 plus tax and a $20 assembly fee. My local bike shop warned me not to buy the rebox bike rack saying it was "refurbished" and "missing parts" and "had no warranty". I quickly pointed out that the RackWarehouse.com site said it was BRAND NEW and came with the FULL MANUFACTURERS WARRANTY. With that the sales guy at my local store walked away. Ok. Well, I figured, either way I'm not buying it from you. Shame too because they've always been top notch for matching prices, great quality and an amazing service shop. I called RackWarehouse.com. They explained that sometimes the boxes get so mishandled by the original delivery people when it comes from Thule that they can't change shipping it out to a customer that way and have to rebox it. They even said my local shop likely gets them with damaged boxes but if they have a mandatory assembly fee then no customer would ever know it. He told me the rack was brand new, had a full warranty, was never refurbished and could be returned if I was in any was dissatisfied. Then he went on to say he said he could also recommend some other reputable web sites he's used for items they don't stock to do a price comparison on the rack if I wasn't comfortable using them after what my local store told me. I mean honestly, how many places would send a customer to a different site just to keep them satisfied? I live in Long Island, NY, ordered the REBOXED rack that day, and it came from Vermont the next day. As stated on the site ground S&H is free but there was a $20 fee because it was an oversized item plus $509.99 for the rack and NO sales tax. $529.99 total!! It's BRAND NEW and was SO well packaged I had trouble getting the box and all of its protective cardboard off it. The video on the RackWarehouse.com site was great!
