Fantastic experience renting conventional bikes here (3 hr for $27) when visiting in mid October w/o a reservation. All day rentals for conventional bikes $40/day. E-bikes, kids bikes, trailer/tagalongs available as well. Staff was very friendly and patient with making sure bikes, helmets were correct size. Very convenient they are right by the bike/walking path. Rode to the Causeway and back, which took about 2.5 hours at a leisurely to moderate pace. Causeway was pretty windy, so we didn't spend much time at the end. Bike ferry was not running, as it was mid October. Views are great! Water refill at the store. The friendliest service! We showed up on a beautiful Sunday afternoon without a reservation, and I would highly recommend making a reservation online before coming, especially on the weekend. We were lucky enough to still get bikes, despite them being super busy. We got their cruiser bikes and bikes the 20 mile RT path to the colchester causeway. Service was super friendly, and they even had a checkpoint part of the way through with snacks and info! This might just be a summer weekend thing. The bike ferry is run by Local Motion and it was up and running at the end of the causeway, but we didn't have enough time to take it. It was $27 for up to 3 hours of rental or $40 for the day. They gave us helmets and bike baskets for free to hold our stuff. There's a sticker on each bike that has a number to call for trail side assistance if anything goes wrong while you're riding. I rolled the dice and showed up without a reservation at 3pm, despite their recommendation to reserve online. Luckily, they had e-bikes powered up and in my size! (I'm 5"). We were able to rent two at $45/ea for 1-4 hours, and took a bit over 2 hours going as far as we could go on the causeway (ferry wasn't working, so we couldn't cross to the other side even if we wanted to). Our round trip was 20 miles. We grabbed helmets and passed on the locks, but if we had more time would have loved to be a little more leisurely. Great spot to rent bikes for the trail. Super fun trail, but pretty heavily used. Lots to go around and slow down for. I recommend going North, much more pleasant of a ride than going south., except for a nice spot just south of the shop where you can sit on benches and watch the boats. Definitely do that. Bikes were recreational for sure, no carbon fiber or anything, but good for the day. Everything worked well. I am a frequent road biker and thought the seat was exceptionally uncomfortable but I tend to think most bike seats are, even when "broken in," if there is such a thing. read more

So we plan a trip to Vermont. We wanted to try out some electric assist bikes. My wife found this place online had good reviews so we checked it out. Everyone that was there was nice great explanation of how to use the bike. The bikes were fairly new in great shape and we had no problem using them. The area where the bikes are is very nice close to the water and very close to a bike path that we ended up, taking all the way up to the Causeway and all the way back. Reserved my bike online ahead of time with local motion. The interface was super easy to use, they had a wide availability of bikes, and they're located right on the bike path. When I arrived to pick up my bike the line was pretty long. I'd suggest picking a time slot as early as possible to beat the rush and large groups on the path. The staff was super friendly. I just wish the staff had explained the bike to me a bit more. I'm not an avid rider and totally missed that the 24 speed I was using had separate levers for shifting up vs shifting down. We didn't have reservations but since it was early in the season we were able to reserve bikes the same day. The staff were super friendly and made sure we were happy with the fit of our bikes and the height of our seats. They gave us info about the trail (basically head towards the causeway) and offered us helmets (which we obliged) and bike locks (wish we had grabbed this). The trail was super fun and we loved the beautiful views along the causeway. We will come back when the bike ferry is up and running for the season! We spent about three and a half hours out (including a nice picnic on the water) so the four hour rental was perfect. This was our second time renting bikes with them! Smooth process and reasonably priced! Make a reservation online to reserve your bikes early. The staff is patient and knowledgeable! There's a bunch of street parking that's close or a parking garage across the street that offers a $2/hour rate. My parents got e bikes and I rode one of their commuter bikes! The location is convenient as it's located right along the bike path on the lake. We rode 21 miles in a little less than 4 hours; out to the end of the causeway and back! I do recommend making online reservations at least a couple weeks ahead of time if need a particular bike as certain models do sell out. I got a large electric bike as I had little time but a lot of ground I wanted to cover. With the battery I could only really go to a 3 out of 5 on the pedal assist, but I had enough juice to get me through 20 miles of riding with about 25% battery spare by the time I dropped it off. The staff were friendly but I have to say the bikes were not in great condition. The derailleur on mine was half working, it was pretty difficult to change gears (only 7 of them anyways because the front was fixed) and the chain was constantly scraping and squealing against some component. My wife's hybrid bike had a bent fender which at times was rubbing the tire. Also my rims weren't true and were a bit wobbly which then also made braking a bit volatile since certain parts of the rim would catch the rim brake harder than others. I would come back for the convenience and beautiful ride, but I wish the bikes were a bit more cared for. read more

I was visiting and picked this place because of their great bicycle advocacy/activism work, and I liked that part of my money would go toward that. They also had the same basic price structure (I think) as the for-profit bike rental place nearby. It was very easy to get a bike (helmet included), get some advice on bike paths from the staff, and get on my way. My only issue is I wish the bike seats were more comfortable. Otherwise they will want to charge you $18 and $7 for every extra hour. Part of the trail is under construction so you will need to ride on a busy street. I did the bike rental. You could choose between a racing bike or hybrid. I chose the hybrid, and there were two choices of hybrids. I chose the kind that was red with a brown seat. The bike was not comfortable, and seemed to have too much tension regardless of the gear. It made for a pretty miserable ride out to the causeway. I am in good shape, and occasionally rent bikes while on vacation, so I don't think the problem was me. I'm still giving a good review because the rental process was quick and easy, and I'm pretty confident I could have switched the bike out if I had gone back (not sure if all the bikes sucked though). I was, however, disappointed in the lack of info from the employee. I asked how to get to the bike ferry; she made no mention of which path to take once you get to the rest stop (once I got there, I assumed the one ending in "causeway" was correct, but it was confusing because the other path was called "Champlain" something or other). This is a great bike rental place in Burlington and I would say biking the lake path and around the city is the best and most fun way to see Burlington! The staff is very helpful, they have free trail maps and can give you lots of advice. It's only $28 to rent an adult bike for the entire day. In the summer their hours are 10AM- 6 PM so if you get the rental for the day you can renturn it the next day! And they have locks and helmets to go with the rental. read more

It can be a bit pricey ($18 for 1 hour, $25 for 1-4 hours) but we had brand new cute 10 speed cruisers that were just perfect for our ride along Lake Champlain, especially when it go a bit gravelly and uneven. So maybe they got a completely new shipment of new bikes since previous reviews, because all the others in the store looked equally shiny and new. You can also request things like a small saddle bag to borrow for free as well, and there was a nifty rack in the rear for storage, so we were all perfectly handsfree and happy the whole day. read more
