Waterfront Park - Ahoy sailors! Great day to sail!

On lovely Lake Champlain, the park possesses northeastern prettiness that could be offensive to haters. Sailboats. Bike paths. Attractive people pretending not to notice sunsets. And, there is always... A jogger. Someone reading poetry or prose. A couple sharing a blanket in a way that says they likely use summering as a verb. Burlington occasionally leans performative crunchy. Waterfront Park itself remains kinda immune to that. Open. Calm. Genuinely beautiful. It is the kind of place you might hear conversations about niche wine bars or an old-money family friend's lake house where everyone wears cashmere beside open water. Go around sunset. Bring something overpriced in a tote. Stare at the water as though you have inherited generational property disputes in coastal Maine. Perfect evening, darliiiiiiiiing.

Great for getting a bit of exercise. There's lots to do around here as far as entertainment such as the ECHO Leahy Center, along with bars, restaurants, and stuff. Big park along the lake is a great way to describe it. It's conveniently located close to the Amtrak station. This is also close to the ECHO Leahy Center science museum, so it's close to lots of things. Has a lot of great views of the water and everything. Lots of room for dogs to run around and whatever. A bike path goes through it. This makes a great ride for those wanting to get some views. A few benches for those needing a breather. There's an ice cream place that's open in summer. Of course it's by the lake. There's not a beach but you can walk along it though. Has a lot of great things in and around it. It's a pretty big park and it's not crowded usually. There's lots of rooms for biking, walking, and whatever.

Starr Farm Dog Park - Big open space = happy dogs!

5/5 - Our Favorite Dog Park!…read more We've been bringing our GSP here 4-5 days a week for nearly a year, and 95% of the time it's a fantastic experience. There's a strong community of regulars, and most dog owners are responsible and attentive. You'll find a rhythm to the park: the 9am crew, the noon "puppy hour," and a lively 5pm group (avoid this time if your dog prefers a mellower vibe). In summer, there's water available and people often bring kiddie pools. The park is donation-based, so consider bringing your own water for your pup (and others!), just in case. As with any public space, you'll occasionally run into an untrained or aggressive dog--usually brought by someone new to dog parks. In the past year, I've only seen two serious incidents. In one case, a dog attacked another and was subsequently banned by the city. In another, a dog aggressively "resource guarded" its favorite best friend dog at the park, and attacked any other dog who wanted to play with his best friend. It was handled by the community. Incidents like these are rare but worth being aware of. Personally, I stay vigilant. I screen every new dog my pup meets and carry a pet corrector spray and small foghorn, just in case. I never assume others are as proactive, so I ask questions and stay alert. It's every owner's responsibility to manage their dog to ensure everyone's safety--that's how public spaces like this thrive. Overall, Starr Farm is hands-down the best dog park around. The positive experiences far outweigh the negative, and we've made great connections. There's even a "Friends of Starr Farm Dog Park" Facebook group, which has grown to include social outings for dog owners. My dog does well here because she's highly trained, socially savvy, and prefers fetch over pack play. If something seems off--like a checked-out owner or a dog with concerning behavior--I create distance or leave. There's also a smaller fenced-in area for shy, small, or young dogs right beside the larger fenced in area FYI. It shares the same parking lot and it's gated entrance is on the left side (when you park). A few asks to keep this space safe: - If your dog resource guards other dogs, please don't bring them here. If they resource guard high value "toys" or other dogs balls, please be aware of this while at the park and manage the situation (like don't bring it's favorite toy) to avoid creating triggers for aggression. - If your dog isn't up-to-date on vaccines or parasite prevention, please stay home. - If your dog is aggressive or attacks other dogs, this is not the place--try a private "Sniff Spot" rental instead. Community spaces only stay safe and welcoming if we protect them. This park is a gem because people genuinely care. Let's keep it that way!

The marker is adjacent to the Burlington Civil War Memorial and faces Burlington City Hall. On the front, it reads "In 1983, a group of lesbian feminists began planning for the first Vermont Pride march to be held in Burlington and invited the gay male community to join. At the time, public celebration of pride in Vermont was controversial. Vermonters attended marches in larger cities where it was safe to be visible commemorating the Stonewall uprising of June 1969 in NYC, the beginning of the national LGBT Pride movement. Linking the struggles to racism, classism and Anti-Semitism, planners of the Vermont event asked for the endorsement of government officials and over 300 organizations. Despite some vigorous opposition, Burlington's Board of Alderman ultimately endorsed the march in a 6-5 vote." And on the reverse, "Vermont's first Pride March was entitled the "Lesbian and Gay Pride Parade and Celebration" with the theme Water Won't Run Straight and Neither Will We. The rally on June 25, 1983, which was proclaimed as Lesbian and Gay Pride Day, was held in City Hall Park, and was followed by a parade through the business district. In a sea of purple balloons, over 350 courageous marchers risked physical safety, jobs, housing, and relationships with family to be openly visible in their home state. Vermonters have rallied every year since 1983 across the Green Mountain State to continue the movement for sexual orientation and gender identity rights and the freedom to live safely and love who they love." Welcome to Vermont. There is metered street parking all around. [Review 1645 of 2024 - 134 in Vermont - 22668 overall]
