Prices- You have to search for bargains here because the regular prices are high. If you are a regular shopper but not a regular buyer you will do well. I got a Marmot Precip jacket for about 50% off - but I had done my shopping online so I knew a good price when I saw it. Staff- A very helpful staff. They are knowledgeable about what they are selling. I also enjoy the classes. Garage Sales- I love the garage sale. I've gone in about 10 AM (they open at 9) and not found stuff, but headed back around 2:30 and picked up boots and wool wear and much less than half price. It pays to be a member. read more

Compared to other REI locations, this location is great. It's spacious and well stocked, clean and organized. I don't need outdoorsy items all that often so it's not worth it for myself to get a membership, although it can be worth it. The seasonal staff was as knowledgeable about their section as the permanent staff, which I really appreciated. read more

Ordered a bike from this REI location beginning of June and when I ordered the bike through the REI website it said the bike was in stock. As a customer, placing my order with this information led me to the natural assumption that I would have my bike relatively soon considering this location has been closed and especially closed for curbside pickup for almost 10-12 weeks. After receiving the confirmation email, stating that my "estimated arrival" would be June 17th, when I didn't receive an email to pick up my product I called the store. While the store rep on the phone was pleasant, they were less than helpful and as stated by another dissatisfied customer would not be ready for another several weeks as they are building some "300" other bikes and nor can they tell you where your order is in the queue. I called REI's corporate customer service who was extremely help, but unfortunately they were not able to even get the store to release my bike to me and allow me to have it built at a bike shop within a matter of days instead of weeks. With the cost of the type of bikes REI sells, and the increase in demand due to COVID, it's a disappointing they have not brought on more staff to meet customers needs in this area. I can safely say this is the last time I would purchase anything from REI. read more

Not the biggest or best REI I've been in, but they've got a pretty good selection of clothing, shoes and bike equipment (the bikes themselves were a bit lacking, however). There isn't as much staff around to answer questions as I have seen elsewhere, which is sort of annoying, but when you do find people, they are very helpful and friendly. The bike repair shop is pretty decent too, but they seem to be overrun at times so you might have to wait a bit to get some help. As always, the REI 100% satisfaction policy is handled very well here, and if your purchase doesn't suit you completely, they are happy to find you something that does. read more

Garage Sale! It's always nice to purchase good equipment at a discounted price. Most of the time, people return the equipment for silly reasons. But yesterday I drove to their regular garage sale and I am really disappointed in the handling of the line. I was roughly between the 40th/50th person on the line, should be roughly the 2nd wave in but there were many people who cut the line (roughly another 40/50) and some walked away with items that I wanted. I think they should have an employee there a few hours earlier giving ticket numbers out to everyone that comes, but I could see the difficult in that too because some will leave as soon as they get a ticket and come back when it opens. read more

Very expensive professional sports good. They got lots biking goodies and clothing. I like to go there just to look at their products. They are over price at that store, you can find the same item with better price. Maybe their rental is too high at the spot. Their customer service was very awful, it once piss us of and we decide not to buy from it again. read more

This place is awesome! I needed rock climbing shoes and I was sent here. They have a big selection of everything adventurous. I will say the price is higher than a typical sporting goods store but the staff is very knowledgeable and friendly and the store is very clean and organized. It makes me feel like I'm in Colorado or nearby just by walking in the doors! I wish it was a little cheaper but great stuff! read more

Huge outdoor outfitting store. Good selection of hiking, camping, and biking supplies, though the running selection was nearly non existent. The brands are typically high end like Patagonia and North Face, so prices are high so look for discounts and sales. The staff is fairly friendly and helpful and even helped us box up a purchase for shipping overseas. read more

I come here often as well as the many competors in Paramus. I came looking for a particular running shoe but they only sale it online. I didn't want to go through the hassle of ordering it and coming back with a high probability that I still wouldn't want it. I was directed to the clearence rack which could contain an item I would like since people order then don't go through with the purchase. I did find sandals to replace my horribly weathered ones plus I picked up sunglasses for driving. They sell most of what you need to overcome the zombie apocalypse as a survivalist. On all my trips here, they are pushy with having you sign up with them. read more

After trying several of the recommendations by friends for good bike tune-up service, my husband & I finally took our 16 year old "Mongoose" Maneuvers to Danny & Luke at REI Paramus. We have never had a better experience with bike service & both our rides are in "like new" performance now. We could not be more satisfied! I would give this place a ZERO if they would let me. REI, how do you employ such an idiotic collection of morons in one location? Look at the other reviews, these people are rude, inconsiderate, and have absolutely no knowledge of the product. The manager has been called out on yelp several times for being rude and useless. How have you not fired anyone? You need a completely different team to take over this store. Many of the groups I hike with will never ever even go near another REI location because of the employees, and these are people that love your products! We are currently setting in motion a boycott of your Bergen Town Center Paramus location until we see a complete employee overhaul. read more

I'm a major fan of REI. When I can't make it into the city the next best spot is REI in Paramus. I know when I can't locate something in the city, or I need a quick pick-up for bike accessories or check out the new Merrell's this location is solid. Went here shopping for bikes with my husband. We are newb's to biking, and came here after doing some research. The employee covering the bike area knew NOTHING, NADA. He tried to tell me that at 5 foot 4 inches a Men's Medium Frame bike could fit me. I was dubious after reading up on bike sizing, but figured he was 'an expert'.... so I tried it on for size.... without going into detail, I can tell you it CLEARLY did not fit my frame! I could NOT stand over the bike! He proceeded to ask -- so does it fit? Ummm... NOOOO it is so obvious that it does not! When he sent my husband to the parking lot to road test a mountain bike without checking the bike first and with uninflated tires, I knew then and there we would not be buying a bike from this REI. Lazy, unknowledgeable, poser. Going to my LBS and dropping a grand there instead. read more

Going to Iceland. Had no idea what to buy. The staff helped me and hopefully I have the right apparel. Actually buying an extra coat (on the 6th visit due to my confusion) the cashier told me what I already bought was perfect ergo no sale. He even checked with another sales person who came from Iceland to make sure what I had purchased was the right clothing. Gave one less star for staffing is minimal and wish more on board to help consumers on the floor. Everyone though who I met in all my visits were very knowledgeable. read more

I received bike shoes for Christmas from REI. I wasn't sure if they were the correct size so I went to the store tonight. I had such an amazing experience! The technician not only confirmed it was the correct size, he screwed in the clips.
