Should I write a review of a Dr here? Is this appropriate? Is it divulging too much about my life on a public, on-line database? What they hell, Dr. McCoy deserves some praise. He is a hand specialist. I had a problem with my thumb that was causing me agonizing pain and it was getting worse every month. I saw 3 Dr's over 3.5 years and none of them helped. Then my GP suggested I see Dr McCoy. In an hour he diagnosed the issue, the next week he operated and resolved the issue. I had a tumor in my thumb that the other doctors all said was arthritis. He knows his stuff, has a good sense of humor, and my wife thinks he looks like Bill Cosby. read more

Give me a K! Give me an L! Give me a U! Give me a T! Give me a Z! What does that spell?! Cat Veeeeee!!! Yeah, that's me. I'm not the daintiest daisy of the bunch so it's no surprise I'd be the one to suffer a minor trauma and fracture a digit (for the second time). Hate to 'break it to ya,' but I'm no stranger to buddy tape, arm casts or splints. Growing up a tomboy and learning early that a little 'dirt don't hurt' glamorized my youth along with making mud pies and giving Barbie her monthly hair cuts :] Miss those days! Fast forward to 2016, and this severely bruised and fat finger, I found myself at Urgent Care only to be referred to Dr. McCoy who'd help fix me up. He's a humorous man, til he told me I couldn't do yoga or Pilates or work out for all of November. Modified workouts it is, shoooot! He reassured me (multiple times) healing time would be less than the 4-6 weeks I had anticipated and sent me off with some buddy tape and range of motion exercises. I was very disappointed in seeing Dr. McCoy. I have tendinitis and carpal tunnel in my wrist. I found him to be dismissive, cold, and lacking communication skills. OK, so Mr. Personality he is not, but if he could help me like he did the other reviewer then I would be thrilled. However, on my third visit in 5 weeks he came into the room and said, " I see you are quite recovered from your head and neck injury". To which I replied, "You must have me confused with someone else, I am here about my wrist'. He then went out to his receptionist and discovered someone else's paperwork was in my chart. OK, stuff happens. But when he came back in he showed me it was misfiled and acted like I had done it! He did not look at me, interrupted me, cut me off and then said, "I cannot help you. I will send a letter to your insurance company stating this". Then got up and left! I came out to the receptionist and she said in a hushed tone, "I am sorry honey". What an ass. read more

I visited Dr. McCoy yesterday to see what I could fo about the carpal tunnel in my left hand. Dr. McCoy has a wonderful manner with patients. He is friendly and easy to talk to about your issues. He listens very attentively. I liked the way he explains things and clearly outlines the options you have. His experience snd knowledge shows. I recommend Dr. McCoy as someone who can not only help you with your problem but put you at ease as he assists you. read more

This man has been my saving grace... I first saw Dr McCoy several years ago as a teenager for patellar dislocation. Quite possibly some of the worst pain I've ever encountered in my life so far. At that point, it wasn't so severe I needed surgery, so he prescribed physical therapy. The therapist i went to for the next 18 months was amazing, and while I followed the regimen closely, it wasn't enough. 2 years later I went back to see him because I knew it was time for surgery. He was only doing hands and wrists and such by this time, but I knew I could trust him and he would point me in the right direction. He certainly did, but that's another review. I met him again, in a rather unfortunate situation, in 2005. I'd been in a devastating car accident where I broke 2 metacarpals and fractured my pinkie from the main knuckle up to the mid knuckle. In the ER, the doctor said he could recommend a good hand surgeon, but I already knew where I would be taking my broken hand. I called Dr McCoy and got an appointment for the next day (Wednesday). He looked at my X-Rays and saw how bad the damage was. He re-arranged his schedule and booked me for surgery Friday morning. What we thought be a 2 hour surgery turned into to almost 5 hours. But it was worth it. The damage to my pinkie was so severe he prepared me for the worst and explicitly told me how diligent I'd have to be with therapy. I was, but we were all still skeptical about the rang of motion I'd have in pinkie. When I returned for my final check up 6 months later, I could make a full fist and straighten my pinkie almost completely. I had to work hard at it for a long time, but with out the amazing care he took in reconstructing my broken bones, I wouldn't have been able to do it. I was sad to see he had even one less than stellar review, because like I said, this man has been my saving grace, twice! read more

Dr McCoy is one of the best hand surgeons and has a great humble, humorous personality. He performed a surgery on my fractured finger and he's the most gentle (may be even too gentle, if u ask therapists :) ). His experience shows when he's talking technicalities of the treatment. He explained to me my options quite well and told me about best and worst case scenarios. If u r over-worried about ur injury (who isn't), at times it may not feel like but he does know what he's doing (he just doesn't talk big, I had to ask a lot of questions but again I need extra assurances as I'm a chicken when it comes to needles n knives). read more

TOP NOTCH ORTHOPAEDIC SURGEON!!! I'm trying to keep this about my experience Tues. with Dr. McCoy, which was above and beyond, but I must say something. Whoever L.S. Is... the reviewer who said the Dr. was dismissive and cold is SO FAR OFF BASE, I HAD to comment! The false accusation that his receptionists said, "sorry honey" after Dr. McCoy supposedly told you to leave is not true, they were astonished by your lie! Feel free to call and ask them! You have a problem, not him, he has VERY high marks, and is highly regarded by his colleagues! I am a meat cutter, and cut my tendon a few days ago. He got me in the very next morning, which was critical. He is a fantastic Dr., very warm and personable, and I highly recommend him to anyone. How dare you call him an "ass"? Condition : Wrist - smashed tendon. First visit - he was 40minutes late Second visit - he was 1:20minutes late Confronted him on it - he brushed it off saying he has emergency surgeries on Mondays. Neither was on Monday. Asked me about my neck. I corrected him that it was my wrist. Took MRI and said bones we not broken but there was some swelling so wear a brace for a while. I WORE THAT BRACE FOR OVER A YEAR. IT WAS A SMASHED TENDON. I DIDN'T GET TO HOLD MY NEWBORN PROPERLY BECAUSE OF THIS. His office staff are rude. I have no idea why Anne F thought they were nice. I can sit here and write details about my horrific experience with him but I am not going to waste my time and save you some as well. This man needs to retire. He is too old to interact with his patients and he rather recording his voice than telling them what is wrong with them. He was hushing me during my visit when I was asking question so I wont interrupt his recording device. Not even he didn't tell what was wrong with me, on my MRI form did not mark the type of request and on top of all he forgot to write my prescription. You need a doctor who truly care about you as his patient and not how fast you make his pocket full. Save yourself time and money and do not go to him. The chance of him not even remembering you on his next visit is great. I do have to mention that his reception lady was amazing! read more

I went to see Dr.McCoy for some wrist pain i had been having. I waited over an hour and half to seen, and even though he was great once he was in the room, I am giving him a bad review because of the physical therapist he referred me to. She was complete incompetent and in no way helped me with my pain or wrist problems, plus my bill was astronomical! For someone who is a 'hand specialist' he needs better people to refer his patients to who know what their doing as much as he does. I had no idea Dr. McCoy was a hand specialist. Lucky me because I saw him for a hand issue. He looked at my x-ray and showed me where the problem was. He was soft spoken, gentle and thorough as well as open to any kind of therapy I might need. He called in a prescription for me before I even arrived home! You rock, Doc! read more

Dr McCoy is so thorough! He listens to his patients and exams your hand carefully as he asks you what you are felling and what has taken place to date. He has a wonderful sense of humor and really cares about you. Dr McCoy correctly diagnosed carpal tunnel syndrome and trigger finger thumb and treated me with professional care with good post procedure follow-up and care. Dr. McCoy was very knowledgeable regarding my trigger finger. Said surgery was not necessary at this time and probably would be corrected with a shot of cortisone. He took the time to discuss what causes it, handed me a pamphlet and walked me through the whole procedure. He was so patient and made me aware of my problem and what to do from here on out. My 15 year old broke his pinky finger during football practice. We had a unhelpful time at our urgent care and the ER. I contacted the office the next morning at 830am and we were seen by 230 same day. Dr McCoy was somewhat irritated that the urgent care or ER did not contact him the night before when we were there. My son's finger was injected with lidocaine then manipulated back but it was not back to where it should have been. it needed more manipulation. Dr McCoy was ready to take my son that day, unfortunately we had eaten right before we came. So he scheduled it for the next morning. Rarely do I review MDs but I felt I needed to because he was courteous, thorough, kind and understanding. he had a great bedside manner, came and spoke to me after surgery and even agreed to take the cast off if fully healed earlier, so my son could get back to football. My son was in pain after we came from my the OR and Dr Mccoy called me and adjusted his pain meds and everything went smoothly from there. We are now going to buddy tape his finger to prevent any other injury and my son miraculously healed in 2 weeks. I am very thankful for Dr McCoy and Allison his medical assistant. They went above and beyond for my family. Allison is a absolute delight. she was knowledgeable and very kind. I am 100% happy with both of them. Thank you! read more

I fell on my hand, and afterwards my thumb didn't work right. I play the bagpipes so a thumb that didn't work meant I couldn't play. Dr. McCoy knew exactly what had happened, fixed it with surgery and my thumb is now normal. I think of him every time I play those pipes. He's wonderful. read more

Dr. McCoy surgically removed a cyst from my thumb. Amazingly, I felt absolutely no pain throughout the whole process. He told me exactly what to expect, and I am very happy with the result. Dr. McCoy is gentle, soft-spoken, and has a good sense of humor. He inspires confidence and is obviously very good at what he does. Dr. McCoy was very patient, kind. I have a trigger thumb and really did not want to get a cortisone shot. He explained the benefits, talked to me and warned me when he was giving the shot. I like how he immediately updated my chart with me in the room via his laptop. I'd recommend him in a heartbeat and will be scheduling a follow up call. I thought I was getting arthritis in two of my fingers, they we're locking up to the point where I couldn't use them. I had put off seeing a Dr. worried about what the prognosis would be. I had heard great things about Dr. McCoy and his work with hand problems. I saw him at his new office and had a great appointment. He explained that it was not arthritis but a carpal tendon problem. He explained the options and their recovery rate clearly, cortisone shots first and surgery if that wasn't satisfactory. I had the shots and within a week there was a noticeable improvement, by 6 weeks all symptoms had disappeared. His manner was kind and thoughtful and his treatment was minimal with excellent results. These are a few of the reasons Dr. McCoy is so highly regarded. read more

I had surgery by Dr. McCoy and he cut the nerve in my hand during surgery. I am sure it was not intentional. The way he handled it afterwards was intentional. He told me it was an "anomaly" nerve ending in his operation report. The nerve ending was the end of my severed nerve and that is why I lost the feeling and function in some muscles in my hand. He led me on for a year of his assurances that it would get better. I finally went to another MD and he said the nerve was clearly cut during surgery as I had developed a large neuroma. I went on to have two other surgeries, one a major nerve reconstruction. I will never have a hand the same again. I am a physical therapist and need my hands. I lost two years of work. The very bad part of my story is that had he taken the high road I could have had the reconstructive surgery sooner and saved more function. He was more worried about his checkbook and the chance that I may sue him than he was concerned about my well being. He deserves this review due to his ignoring his Hippocratic Oath. read more
