I saw Dr. Eugene for an anteriorly protruding right collarbone at the SC joint. He gave me his honest assessment, but doesn't really seem to shed much light on the problem other than what was patently obvious with it, that it was protruding (I need only take off my shirt). He didn't really recommend anything be done, though he did mention a surgery. I asked for imaging, he recommended a CT scan. This didn't really seem to shed any more light on things though, he didn't have much to add after viewing the images. Although I'm no closer to resolving or fully understanding this issue after discussing it with him, this isn't really what this review is about. It may be that there isn't more to understand and that my options are extremely limited. I asked him if he would prescribe nitroglycerin patches, which numerous government studies have shown really help to heal orthopedic problems. I was denied this request by my primary care doctor on the grounds that she wasn't the person to ask, that I should ask a specialist, in particular one of my orthopedic doctors that I am seeing. Dr. Eugene asked me to send him links to the studies proving my case, I sent him about 8 links to government studies. I have heard NOTHING back. Several weeks later, several phone calls later, I'm still waiting for a yes or a no. Every time I would call, I was told I would get a response within a day or two. Lies. That's all I wanted was an answer, which I was promised. I'm done calling and asking for a response, I've wasted several weeks patiently waiting on this. I'm gonna go ask someone else. I find this extremely unprofessional. read more

Can't say enough good things about Dr. Eugene DellaMaggiore and his office. I had a complete rupture of my achilles tendon while on vacation in Hawaii and immediately began searching for the best ortho I could find. Dr. DellaMaggiore was able to fit me in for evaluation on short notice, and I went in for surgery a few days later! He is so knowledgeable and decisive, but also very caring and patient. I felt like I was in great hands the whole time, and that was certainly validated by how well I've recovered since then. Yes it took hard work and committing to PT, but I don't have any residual nerve, tendon or muscle issues whatsoever. 5 months after surgery - no limp, 100% mobility, 90% strength, and I'm well on my way to being better than normal! Office staff is also very friendly and professional, which made the whole process a breeze. An achilles rupture can be very disconcerting and I was concerned I'd never get back to my active self. Dr DellaMaggiore is very conscious and gifted orthopedic surgeon. I read the yelps and I am surprise of the bad ratings. I just had rotator cuff surgery with a bad tear, spurs and frozen shoulder. I healed slowly because of this. He was very concerned about my PT treatments because he was worried I could tear or create frozen shoulder again. He has always been a great listener, gave options for helping myself to be heal properly. My surgery went great. I asked that I return back with no disabilities and he delivered !!! Two years ago he treated my for a torn meniscus on both knees. I took his suggestion to do Hylaluronic injections and it worked so well that I no longer have pain. Look we all know we should be our own advocate when it comes to your health. What you don't know or understand, YOU ASK !! This doctor is caring and dedicated to all his patients. The staff has always been attentive, friendly and professional. There will always be that patient who expects attention and demands service. They are usually mean and miserable no matter where they go. For those patients, human KINDNESS works well. Also check your attitude at the front door. !!! read more

Dr dellamaggiore has been our family orthopedic for many years. It's unfortunate that he is a puppet of his office staffs drama. The staff is horrific. When entering the office the first thing they say is "what is your insurance" or "I need your co pay". Never a hello or even a smile. And don't even try pleasant small talk. There rudeness expels through the stiffness of there very unhappy faces. Sabrina the receptionist is the worst. We have had quite few run ins with her. Don't even attempt to talk to her. If she doesn't like what you have to say she simply hangs up on you or walks away from the conversation. She absolutely has no knowledge of how insurance Companies work. If it gets complicated and you attempt to explain it then she gets angry and rude. On our last visit I was actually accused of staging a three way phone call with our insurance company. Saying that it was not in fact the insurance company on the phone but someone else portraying them. The office staff told Dr dellamaggiore just that. The doctor called me and he also accused me. I was in disbelief. So I immediately called my insurance company And they then called the doctors office And asked for the manager. In addition my insurance company documented the incident and sent a letter following up verifying my insurance with a certification included. Drama expels through the office and in return sucks in the doctors. Dr.'s Anderson and Dellamaggiore are a big disappointment. Being professionals one would only hope they would be smart enough to know that a medical practice should be run just that - PROFESSIONAL. They need to be reminded of the oath they took when they became doctors. read more

I've been to see Dr. Dellamaggiore 4 times for a problem I'm having with my wrist. One of my visits was with his physician's assistant Julie. Doctor D made me feel very comfortable and assured me that I could continue my exercises and that I should make a complete recovery. He also spent time explaining the options I have, including surgery. Doctor D seems conservative in his approach as at my last visit it was looking like surgery might be in the cards, but my wrist was better at today's visit, so we decided to give it more time. I'm an engineer/researcher and do a lot of research on the internet and had lots of questions. Dr. D was happy to explain in detail how the surgery works and was able to answer all of my questions. The staff is very nice, and physician's assistant Julie is quite knowledgeable and has performed a minor procedure my wrist perfectly and without pain several times. I was having pain between appointments and was somewhat concerned and just dropped in. They reminded me that appointments are preferred, but then I was able to see Julie within maybe 15 minutes. This was highly appreciated. I recommend Dr. Dellamaggiore for your sports related injuries. PS. Dr. D also has a great bedside manner. Not only is he very knowledgable about his art, he was also born and raised in the San Jose area and will chat-up the local establishments. I told him I like a good burger and he turned me onto Willow Burger which I plan on visiting soon! read more

I had insurance when I went in as I was working. I wasn't able to work due to my knees. Dr. DellaMaggiore decided that I wasn't eligible for Disability through my employer. He actually only saw me once out of the four visits. This is while my let would give out on me due to a lack of any cartilage in my knees. He even said, surgery would be the main option. He charged my insurance as if he was the one treating me. Once I wasn't able to work anymore and didn't have the insurance, he dropped me like a rock and dismissed me. Doctors are supposed to have compassion and helping the patient get better is supposed to be the main concern. Not this guy. He's there for the $$. Don't be fooled. I will be hiring a lawyer to sue him. I'm hoping his license is suspended for his foul business practice. I hope he is nervous. By the way, he gets hired to say what lawyers want him to say in court. People who get paid to give up their souls are called "whores" in the industry. All he is about is the almighty $$. Nothing else. read more

My Achilles Tendon surgery was done by Dr Dellamaggiore about 11 years ago. I had ruptured it practicing martial arts and went through the normal channels to get a diagnosis. I do remember snippets of my interactions with him and he was very informative, did all of the right tests (and later, an MRI) to confirm the diagnosis. His description of my upcoming surgery was very good and he gave me an option of either having the incision right down the middle or off to the side. Attention to detail like that was very comforting knowing how much I was going in very uncertain on many fronts. Skip to about 6months later and after followups and PT, I was able to continue my martial arts and was able to compete in the US National Kendo Championships. Skip 11 years later and my repaired tendon is still doing great. I can still practice, run, play basketball, etc without problems. The only thing that reminds me of the surgery is the scar and the bigger than normal looking back-of-my-ankle, but other than that, I am pretty much back to where I was pre-surgery. I dislocated my shoulder and as a result tore multiple structures and developed frozen shoulder. I was in tremendous pain and was unable to use my right arm for over a year. I had shoulder surgery 4 months ago and am doing great. Shoulder injuries are slow to heal, but Dr. Dellamaggiore managed my expectations right from the start so I would prepared. He did a fabulous job with what ended up being a complicated repair. I'm going back next week to have him fix my ankle, which I have torn the ligaments in 4 times. There is no one else I would trust to do my surgery. Dr. Dellamaggiore is kind, thoughtful and always takes his time answering questions. He's humble, personable and patient. Eugene, you have paid to have your yelp cleaned up. You still will be the only doctor that I have regretted going to. I injured my hand at home and you sent me for an MRI; then you said you did not believe that it was my hand on the MRI. What? You then left me waiting for two hours. After what you wrote up on my patient portal, I have had doctors treating me like garbage... One doctor even told me about it; what a liability. Have you heard of character defamation? You can continue to have drama in your office between your staff, treat your patients like everything you say is true when it is a made up belief, and you can abuse your privilege to the patient portal. But I promise you that it will continue to catch up to you. You cannot outrun inhumane service. I have read other patient comments, the real ones, and word of mouth can travel further than any yelp ad... the bay-area is small and your network will start shrinking in support. And I will continue to watch the many past reviews get wiped. But I will always be there. And I hope others will join in returning and making other people be aware of your behavior. This review is long overdue. I first saw Dr. DellaMaggiore in June of 2019 due to unbearable shoulder pain that began years ago and finally got so bad I couldn't go a day without severe discomfort. Dr. Dellamaggiore hands down is one of the best surgeons and doctor I have found. Dr.D gets a standing ovation from me! In 2012 I fractured my left tibia plateau in to multiple chunks and broke the fibula too. This is not good for an avid cyclist like myself. Dr.D met me in the emergency room and accessed the injury to my leg. The next day I went in for surgery and 6 hrs later he and his great staff members put my knee back together! Dr. Dellamaggiore has operated on both my knees. He operated the right one in 2010 and the left knee in June 2018. I can't say how pleased I am with his work. My knees were in pretty bad shape especially the left one (I am still recovering from the surgery) and he did an excellent job on both of them. I know that I have to go for knee replacement eventually, but wanted to postpone it for a few more years. I wasn't sure if this surgery would buy me enough time, but I decided to take my chances. Although I have not fully recovered yet, but I can say with confidence that I am much better that before. Also, In all the visits I had with him, he's been always friendly and patient. I am a long time RN, very fit but with a number of worker compensation injuries requiring orthopedic surgery. Dr. Dellamaggiore saved the quality of my life in his recent rotator cuff repair on me, just 11 months after I had entrusted my long time WC Orthopedic to do an open repair after my 5.8.09 date of injury. Dr. Dellamaggiore explained to me via the pictures on his laptop the arthroscopic repair he did, how he did it. He is very kind, will answer your questions, and is very fit himself as a triathlete. I received an ACL Replacement surgery from Dr. Dellamaggiore on 1/30. He didn't an excellent job on my knee and the recovery is going very well. The scars look great and he is very nice and thorough doctor, who really takes the time to explain everything. I would give him 5 stars except you must be extremely careful if your going to have a surgery with him. The outpatient clinics he operates out of are all out of network of the major insurance companies. Upon further research he gets a profit by directing his patients to get operations at this out patient clinics. While he himself performed the surgery for a relatively reasonable cost, the out patient clinic will file a giant claim to your insurance company. I was hit with a 42 thousand dollar bill for my time at the clinic. This didn't include the Dr/s costs or the anesthesiologist. I was not aware of any of this at the time. I just Dr Dellamaggiore because he was recommended and in my network. The facility blatantly lied to me about what the cost would be. Great Dr but be very careful before you commit to a surgery. read more

In July of 2014 I had a total right knee replacement done my Dr. Dellamaggiore at O'Connor Hospital. I suffered for many years with knee pain and this surgery was my last resort. One year later, my knee is as good as new. Dr. Dellamaggiore and his staff, Julie and Stephanie, the physician's assistants are amazing. I can't say enough about their talent, professionalism and compassion for their patients. Again, on October 26, 2015 I had total left knee replacement and today had my staples removed. Dr. Dellamaggiore is a gifted surgeon and I would highly recommend him to anyone who has knee issues. I have several weeks of PT ahead of me for the second time around but I'm more than confident I'm going to have excellent results with my left knee as I did the right knee. I had a great experience at this office . Years ago I was told I would need a knee replacement which I avoided,but over the last few months of a strenuous exercise routine,that knee began acting up along with an elbow issue. Called for an appointment and the front desk staff were extremely helpful and accommodating and got me in within a couple days . Dr. DellaMaggiore brought myself and my husband into the patient room and talked about my issues. He took some X-rays and helped me schedule an MRI to get a better idea of what was going on . Long story short, my knee will definitely need a replacement at some point but for now a small tear in the meniscus is the current culprit of my pain and he will treat it with a minor procedure. Dr. DellaMaggiore is cautiously conservative which was a relief. I love that he did not jump in to say surgery is imminent -which he could have easily said considering the history of my case. Same for the elbow - he gave me a cortisone shot which I didn't feel whatsoever and advice on how to relieve that issue . Dr DellaMaggiore takes his time with his patients, is caring and genuine and most important, he is honest . I would highly recommend him if you are looking for a great orthopedic doctor. Dr. Della Maggiore performed arthroscopic surgery on my right knee last week for a fairly large lateral meniscus tear, and after just 8 days, I feel like a new man. The pain is gone and my mobility is nearly completely back.I had a similar surgery 20 years ago and the results were not nearly as positive as this time around. He was excellent to work with, his staff including his PA Julie, are very attentative and my outcome appears to be outstanding. At the post op appointment, they took me through the before and after pictures, explaining in detail all of the issues they faced and how they were handled. I saw Dr Dellamaggiore last March 2017. Always remember there are 2 Sides to every story. If I could put less then 1 Star I would. I was going to have a Full R Hip replacement and a partial knee replacement from a fall I had, as never have had surgery in my life. Dr D told me he would have to ask his Mentor if he could do a Full Hip Replacement and a partial knee at the same time. I had requested it. That should of been a Red Flag right there. Dr. D got back to me a few months later and said he could do a Full Hip Replacement and a partial knee at the same time. Since then I've seen 4 Ortho Doctor's and No One will do a Full Hip Replacement and Partial knee the same time. They said its way too dangerous for the patient leg, blood clotting, many other reasons. I informed Dr D I had to arrange surgery when my friends could help take care of me, as I am alone. It would be their schedule. I had called Dr D office and got Stephanie and asked her to mail me a Prescription for something to sleep at night. She said she would. She never did. So I called Dr D office to have my Lab work mailed out to me, so surgery could happen in a month. I got Stephanie who said I needed a Primary Doctor. I said I don't have one but my hospital an hour away verified they could do the Blood work, UA, and EKG. I got to the hospital an hour away and went to the Lab and the tech said "I can't do any of your blood work, its Not filled out properly". There is no Doctors signature or nothing is checked off. A wasted trip. So I called Dr D office got Stephanie again, she said she would send another form filled out. Then two days later I received a Certified Letter stating I was no longer a patient of Dr. D. To find another Surgeon. How insensitive and callous for a Doctor to not call you when your having surgery in a month, but to send you a standard letter. Have the common decency to at least recommend another Surgeon. I sent Dr D mentor apparently Dr. Anderson a certified letter stating what happened. Not even the respect to answer back. That shows what kind of compassion they have. None. Apparently there are 2 Stephanie's, one of them could careless about helping a patient. The ONLY staff member that has people skills is Sabrina. The reviews here about the office staff being horrendous, extremely rude are all true. The office Manager is unbelievable nasty, rude. The billing Department acts like your bothering them when you want to pay your bill. It's amazing their still in business. A girlfriend went to Dr D office exact same thing with their billing Department. A nightmare. Its God way I didn't have 2 Surgery's on my leg with Dr Dellamaggiore when 4 Ortho Doctors said No Way it should be done. I'm so glad I am done with this Doctor and his rude staff. I found a competent Ortho Surgeon in which he has done surgery for 38 years, and his staff are wonderful!! read more

As I had previously experienced 2 failed surgeries for my knee, I really didn't know which doctor to go to for my shoulder pain. Thanks to YELP, I found Doctor Dellamaggiore with 5 stars rating, I decided to give him a try. From the first examination, I already gained confidence because of his detailed check up, as well as the explanations for my torn rotation cuff. I decided to stick with him for my surgery. My torn Rotation cuff is very serious, thanks to Doctor's excellent skill and experience, my surgery was very successful. I am fully recovered after 6 months. I also want to praise all his office workers, Every time I called, there was a live person to answer and resolve my request (not recording like most other office) . They are fast to prepare the documentations I needed for insurance company and others would patiently reschedule my appointment when asked. It was an extremely satisfying experience. I saw Dr. DellaMaggiore about 2 months ago for an elbow pain. He was thorough with his examination and gave me a few options from letting it go for a few weeks, PT, or cortisone shots. He saw that I wasn't too excited about the shots so we decided to go the conservative route. I'm glad he didn't push the shots. That made me feel better. I would recommend Dr DellaMaggiore to anyone with sports type injuries. read more

Actually I didn't get a chance to discover if he's a good doctor or not - I couldn't handle his office. His office is quite frankly the worst medical office I've seen in my life. They began by forgetting about my appointment. One day I call them on the phone and schedule and appointment, next day they call me about insurance and in the conversation they mention that I don't have an appointment. I re-schedule and re-arrange my plans. Then I schedule a surgery, they tell me they called my insurance and everything is OK and I go on a business trip. I come back from the business trip on Friday and I met by a letter from my insurance saying they that insurance isn't going to pay for the surgery because among other reasons MRI doesn't show a tear or I didn't complain about the problem long enough. I am baffled, because office people said they checked with insurance, MRI shows everything and I complained about the problem in May. I spend the weekend worrying and trying to imagine what my plans are going to look like now. On Monday I call Dellamagiore office's folks and they tell me they cleared this up with the insurance LAST WEEK. It's beyond my understanding why they couldn't call me and let me know. I tried to ask but they couldn't even understand what I am complaining about. A day before my pre-op appointment hospital people call me and explain that Dr. DellaMaggiore's office scheduled my pre-op on the day when no one in the hospital is available. Apparently DellaMaggiore's people didn't clear it with hospital people. Hospital folks re-schedule the appointment. Next day I am getting a call from DellaMaggiore's office asking why I didn't show up for the appointment. I am explaining that the hospital folks re-scheduled and I don't know what I was supposed to do and why it is my fault that DellaMaggiore's folks don't talk to hospital folks. And then DellaMaggiore's office cancels my surgery! At this point I am already happy it worked out this way. If the good doctor runs surgery the same way he runs his office I'm better off with somebody else. read more
