Okumu was that he was willing to spend time with me explaining my back issues in language that I could understand.

As time went on this became less and less the case. He seemed angry when called, would rush out of appointments and wouldn't return calls. Her referred her to a pain management who was terrible and injected the wrong area. She ended up in the hospital with severe pain, unable to move. On day 2, he discharged her without telling us even though she couldn't even move her legs because of severe pain. When we called his office to get answers he never called back and told the nurses he would not be coming back to see her. We refused to take her home and the hospitalist agreed she should stay until she could at least get out of bed on her own. She was in the hospital for 7 days!!!! I guess it's easy to discharge someone when you're not the one feeling their pain. After consulting with several physicians we chose a Neurosurgeon for her spinal issues and boy what a difference! She's off Narcotics after several years and had surgery to fix her nerve/spine issues which was successful and she only takes Ibuprofen for her minimal pain. Also wanted to mention Dr Daniels has left 3 practices abruptly. His first office in Watsonville, he left and we couldn't get answers as to if and when he was coming back or where he would be moving to so we could get an appointment. Several months ago he sends out letter he is leaving his newer practice with Coastal Health partners and moved to a practice in Texas. Come to find out he left that practice abruptly also and is now working for a practice in Visalia, Ca. Doesn't sound like a stable MD

I have a lot of brain fog and I can get overwhelmed in situations like this. But that did not phase him at all. He patiently repeated if I needed it without getting frustrated with me or flustered. I really appreciate that so much. It was clear to me that his prognosis was for my best health and well-being. Thank you for being a good human.

I had major spinal reconstruction from him divided into 2 parts which were planned for 2 days apart. Just as the first part was beginning, someone in the OR failed to read the computer and put chlorhexadrine all over me, to which I am allergic. 2 days later, when the 2nd half of the surgery was to start, Dr. Summa checked on me first but did not check my back. A severe rash had encompassed my whole torso. In the OR, i showed him my back, and he recommended that i wait 2 weeks for the steel rods to be put in. i trusted him and said okay. 3 months passed, and my scoliosis reasserted itself. By the time the rods went in, they had to go in bent to go with that bend in my back, which was not there after the first surgery and would not have been there if the 2 weeks later operation had come true. Now steel rods keep that bend there for the rest of my life. Still, i was better off and emerged with less pain than before the first surgery. He told me to go to physical therapy, which caused the pain to come back. he told me to hold off a few days, then start again. This went on for weeks with the pain getting worse all the time, but when I saw him next, he said to try 6 more weeks of PT. After that, the pain had settled in. When I saw him next, he said exactly the same words as the previous time and it was evident that this was a standard recommendation. He did not comment when I said that he had just said exactly what he had said 6 weeks ago. He seemed not to recall the previous visit or realize that his recommendation had made things worse and that he was repeating it. I have never recovered and am in far worse pain than before the whole surgical project began simply because the surgery promised in 2 weeks took 3 months to happen and he did not see that the PT was ruining the good results he had created. For the sake of his other patients, I tried to explain what had happened many times to him over the following years, and he would never take responsibility for any negligence. I am in intolerable pain, much worse than in the beginning, and there is nothing anyone can do. He does not show any recognition that patients would benefit if he paid the same acute attention to aftercare and keeping schedules that he dos to the actual procedures. Also, do not expect understanding even though it seems to be there. When I let him know how much pain i was in, he said that he himself has back pain to the point where he can't run marathons anymore. Best of luck.

I can walk 2 miles. I can be in the kitchen and cook for my family again. I'll be able to hold my granddaughter when she arrives in August. I have my life back. Brandy and Lynn have been so helpful from the pre-surgery prep to working with me on my medical leave. So grateful for their kindness, patience, and support. When I first my Dr. Onibokun, he answered my questions and calmed my fears. As I had already explored so many alternatives, surgery was truly the only thing that was going fix the issue and alleviate the pain. The surgery staff was incredible and everything went well. I'm so grateful to have gone with minimally invasive surgery as I have minimal scars and the healing has been relatively easy. I am so grateful for finding San Jose Neurospine. Dr. Onibokun and his team reached out and arranged an in-person follow-up appointment to address everything I had questions about. They were patient, thorough, and took the time to go through my imaging and treatment options in detail. All of my questions and concerns were addressed -- something I had felt was missing from the initial phone consultation. The willingness to follow up and ensure I felt heard as a patient made a meaningful difference. Chronic pain is a complex journey and finding a physician who is willing to engage thoughtfully and take concerns seriously matters enormously. I appreciate the effort the clinic made to make that happen. Updating my rating to reflect this experience.

Since the beginning of this year, I have been trying to schedule an appointment. Instead of helping me move forward, the assistant told me that Dr. Holamandara would not see me until I had an MRI. She instructed me to ask my primary care physician to order it. That made no sense because the specialist is the one requesting the MRI and should be responsible for providing the appropriate referral or coordinating the necessary steps. Because I had previously seen Dr. Pativanda for the same condition, I was then told that they would contact Dr. Pativanda's office to request the MRI referral. That was over four months ago. Since then, I have called both offices every couple of weeks asking for an update. Dr. Holamandara's office and Dr. Pativanda's office are located directly across from each other in the same building, yet no one seems able to communicate or provide answers. Neither office has followed up with me, returned my calls with a solution, or taken ownership of resolving the issue. The lack of communication, coordination, and accountability has delayed my medical care for months. As a patient, I should not have to spend months chasing down referrals and repeatedly calling multiple offices just to get a simple answer. Patients deserve timely communication, clear guidance, and staff who are willing to help instead of passing responsibility to someone else. I hope this office improves its patient care and communication because no one seeking medical treatment should have to go through this experience.
