Really want to like this place since it's down the street. Today was the 4th time they messed up and when I called (way before the lunch time rush) repeated my order 4 times because this has happened over and over got there paid walked half way home before I checked it and it was wrong. When I went back and the kids working took forever to talk to me I said forget it not even worth waiting another 10 mins refunded me and said if the money is not back on my card to call and talk to someone. Tried out for work lunch. Heard great things about the food. But was disappointed. Ordered a Cobb salad and it was so boring. The lettuce to salad ingredients ratio like egg, bacon etc was like 80% lettuce..to 20% toppings. The chicken was very gamey, dry and rubbery. Couldn't mix the salad and dressing because it was so tightly packed with lettuce. It was also $14 which was way overpriced for such a salad. Others had the chili and clam chowder. Said they were ok but very pricey for the serving size. Reminds me of NYC lunch prices..think I'll wait a while before I go back. I do want them to do well but think they need to focus on food quality and flavor a bit more. read more

I finally got to try Reef Shack today. I've been hearing nothing but great things and I was definitely not disappointed. The cheesesteak is the best in the area and the bacon, egg and cheese sandwiches stack up with anyone (and I don't say that lightly considering that we have both Country Cow and Tasty Yolk in town). Only the best ingredients- ribeye for the cheesesteaks and the best rolls for the sandwiches. Everything is fresh and super clean and the staff is super, super nice. Great food but they really need to figure out a better way to order because it takes way too long

Delish and fresh. Half a sandwhich and I was stuffed. The Italian ice was so fresh and smooth I had the mango.

Very solid cheese steak, I find myself craving it! The new roll vs the original one they had is awesome, and the half size is huge.

Great spot however I recommend ordering online because the staff at the counter is lacking experience

This is a review for 2 visits. Phone take out order was clumsy and slow. Had to give Cc twice. Tip for staff: Have a pad and paper to write down info, and destroy later. Staff seemed confused and unsure both visits. Ordered a salad and when I got home with it, it had NO dressing. And the avocado, although ok, was under ripe, and was in one big chunk, not cut into bite sized pieces. My 2nd visit was in person. Ordered at the cashier, and then had a really long wait. At least 17 mins! Seems like table customers shd have some kind of priority over take out. No amt on my receipt...? Good to get auto text when my order was ready, but no way to call back bc text number not the main restaurant number. Re-looked up phone, called back abt missing dressing, but no one picked up! The reviews for this place are stellar so I've been wanting to try this place out for a bit. I finally got the chance to and I am very disappointed and I hope it was just a one off experience. The place itself is very nice and clean and spacious. However, the cheesesteaks we ordered were underwhelming to say the least. The steak itself was fine, maybe a touch on the dry side, but overall could be a component of a great sandwich. I think the sandwich itself and other ingredients combined to make a very uninspiring sandwich. The onions seemed to be barely cooked and were not cooked much with the beef. I would much rather eat a cheesesteak from the Super Duper Weenie across town. Would I try this place again? maybe, I was really hoping it would be as good as the other reviews led me to believe. Surprised when I had the idea this place was going to be seafood based and then looked at the menu and there's limited options but your standard clam strips lobster roll etc. Clam chowder was good wish it was $7 not $9! I do wish when you ordered a soup you didn't have to wait for your number. I had a hard time hearing the girls yell names. A bunch of people were texted that their order was ready at the same time and there was a crowd which made me a little nervous because the 6ft rule didn't apply to some at that point. read more

Not the best chicken cheesesteak!!!! Chicken was very bland...definitely not seasoned and it would've been nice to know that it would be mostly dark meat!! Pretty cool for a new place. Nice atmosphere, friendly staff, and large menu. Prices are more expensive than similar places around town, but the portions of food are pretty large. The bacon egg and cheese I ordered came on a sub roll, which I've never seen before, but it was surprisingly good and pretty generous with the bacon. Amazing new breakfast spot in Fairfield close to the beach. I am originally from New York and very picky about my breakfast sandwiches. The bacon egg and cheese sandwich was absolutely amazing and you can tell that they use fresh, high quality ingredients. Little pricey but big portions and you get what you pay for. My wife kindly picked up a cheesesteak for me on [soft] opening day today. Damn I'm glad she did. Cheesesteak review: excellent. Great bread, stuffed full of steak, delicious homemade wiz like cheese sauce, and I like the way the onions were cut long and micro thin. We added hot peppers (free) as an option and they added some crunch and extra flavor. Not bad for their 1st day!! Yes we will be back. Easily my favorite cheesesteak in CT now. read more

Update: I continue to root for these guys, great location, fun menu, etc. But in 10 orders I have ALWAYS had a problem. Forgot utensils in the order, cold soup, gross lettuce. Today, I added hot cherry peppers to my $14 chicken sub and got yellow peppers instead. No big deal, but I do look forward to these nice folks getting their act together. read more

I know very well they are regular clam bellies and not clam strips, I still think $27 is ridiculous. I did not say the macaroni and cheese was bad I just said I didn't really care for it, I'm glad that the little ones like it. Forgot to mention almost $8 for a small clam chowder was also a bit High. I loved Reef Shack when it first opened. Clean and Covid guidelines were followed. Most food items were tasty with the exception of the greasy, saturated, sooty fries. But today I went in, saw a staff member wearing a mask around his chin , asked him to please pull it up over his face correctly, and he ignored my request. As he was preparing my food, that my hard earned dollar was paying for.. I was disgusted! Others may support his decision, but I won't be returning. read more

Tremendous is all I can say! Bacon egg and cheese sandwich was incredible! Service was with a smile and quick. Steak mushroom and cheese grinder was excellent. The shop is bright and well layed out. Lovely selection of teas. My preference is Lipton which they dont carry but it was steamy hot as it should be! We will be regulars as we live in the area. Worth a drive from anywhere! A great local spot for breakfast and lunch. A huge variety of sandwiches and salads. The menu has more than enough choices to satisfy everyone. I stopped in for a sausage egg and cheese sandwich. It was great my only complaint is the sausage is more of an Italian dinner type sausage not a breakfast sausage. Next time I'll get bacon. read more

Placed an order online, got there on time, called, 2/3 items were ready. Waited more than 20 minutes for the other item (2x longer than when the whole order was supposed to be ready), and called to check on order when I was placed on hold for longer than I cared to wait. Unsurprisingly 2/3 of the items were cold and soggy. Cheesesteak was one of the better ones in FFLD, but nothing to write home about. Will not be returning sadly :/ read more

We finally got a chance to head down to the Reef Shack for lunch and were so glad we did! It is about a 5 minute walk from our house so we were able to take our baby in her stroller easily for lunch. I got the cheesesteak with a side of fries and my husband got the lobster roll. Everything was SO good. Cheesesteak was huge and I loved the roll it was on. Got to chat with the owner Jason and we are looking forward to visiting more, especially as it gets warmer out. A fantastic addition to the neighborhood! read more

I agree with the other 2 reviewers. I found the clam chowder and lobster bisque average and overpriced. There is so much competition in our area, for these 2 soups and soups in general, I probably will skip the soup next time. I was also expecting a little more of a seafood selection, that being said I will go back and try them all. read more

I used to frequent this place almost everyday. On the online menu they permit for substitutions so I would typically order a salad but substitute the meat add additional veggies from a drop down list. My order was correct from about March of 2021 until June. This is when school was out for summer and it was obvious most of the staff transitioned and was comprised of high school boys (lil reefers). My order began getting messy and the add ons were missing, incorrect meat, etc. Keep in mind, I was paying extra for each add on and substitution, etc. The straw that broke the camels back was the last time I went in... I had ordered 3 custom unique items (salads w/ add ons, etc). When I went in the pick up my custom order, it was incorrect. I went back inside from my car and explained what was wrong. I then stood there waiting for 20+ mins and again, my delivered my order incorrect. The manager offered me a free pint of Italian ice while I proceeded to wait another 20+ mins. (Meanwhile Italian ice is melting sticky syrup all over me in 80+ degree weather). Needless to say, I will not be returning anytime soon. A restaurant should not permit customers to make substitutions if in fact, they cannot make substitutions. The Reef Shack has turned into Reefer Mania. read more
