Redwood Pie is a great addition to Hermosa Beach for quality pizza. I really like their sourdough crust which is nice and crunchy. They have a good sauce to cheese ratio and are very generous with the toppings. We got a large (16 inch) half pepperoni, half regular pizza with no parmesan cheese which was more than enough for my daughter and I to share. This restaurant is set up more for take out but they do have quite a bit of of outdoor seating, and Hermosa Beach weather is perfect for al fresco dining. I called in our order and it was ready in 20 minutes so they had it waiting for me when I arrived to pick it up. I was lucky enough to find street parking right out front on the same block, but you can normally find street parking on the side streets with some patience and effort. I've ordered Redwood Pie a handful of times now and I think I've finally made peace with the fact that this pizza just isn't for me. Which is a shame, because there's some genuinely good work happening underneath all that cheese. Let's start with the dough. Redwood's sourdough crust is excellent. Beautifully fermented, flavorful, with a satisfying chew and enough character that you could probably eat the crust by itself and be perfectly happy. You can taste the work that went into it. And as someone who takes pizza a little more seriously than a grown man probably should, I appreciate that. Unfortunately, everything sitting on top of it seems determined to ruin the occasion. The cheese is my biggest problem. It's heavy, oily and strangely chewy, with a richness that becomes exhausting after a couple of bites. Pick up a slice and the whole thing folds under its own weight, sending oil wherever gravity decides it belongs. A little flop is perfectly acceptable in a good New York style pizza. But there's a difference between a flexible crust and a slice that appears to have surrendered. The mushrooms weren't helping. They arrived shriveled, dark and saturated with oil. I love a properly cooked mushroom, especially when it develops a little caramelization and retains some of its texture. These looked and tasted like they'd spent too much time swimming in the cheese. The sauce itself is decent, although I found it a little too salty alongside everything else. Once the cheese, oil, mushrooms and sauce come together, the whole thing becomes this heavy, greasy layer sitting on top of an otherwise wonderful crust. Even the underside loses the texture you want. To be fair, I've only ordered delivery and pizza doesn't always travel gracefully. But I've had enough deliveries from other places to know that a good pie can survive a cardboard box. I've also given Redwood several chances and the experience has been remarkably similar each time. That's what makes this frustrating. There's real craftsmanship here. I can understand why people love it and I wouldn't question anyone who gives it five stars. I just wish the toppings showed the same restraint and consideration as the dough. With Prime and EZPZ doing some very good things in the South Bay, I'm finding it harder to justify another order. The restaurant is small inside as it's a grab and go type of space but they do have a little bit of seating and friendly service. There were also umbrella tables outside that you could sit at. We ordered two slices of the Bianca pizza and a 16" Classic Pepp pizza. My son said that the Bianca pizza was okay. He liked the cheese and the crust. The rest of us enjoyed the Pepp Pizza. It was really good. You could taste the freshness of the pepperoni and the sourdough crust was really good. Overall stopping at Redwood Pie was a great idea. This is an order at a counter and they will bring out your food kind of place. I found the person taking my order to be really cool and accommodating. We ordered two pies, a large and a small. The small pie is more than enough for one person. The large pie could easily feed 3 to 4. They are all thin crust with a beautiful char. For the large pie, we had a half margarita and half pepperoni. I always get the dfresh which is their version of a Bianca/white sauce pizza, the Serrano peppers just perfectly complementing the more creamy flavor of the pizza. That said, a few things kept it from being a full 5-star experience for me. There's no beer (which is always a bummer when you want to kick back with a cold one), indoor seating is pretty limited, and the overall vibe felt a bit uninspiring. Caveat: So far, I have only had Redwood Pie pizzas from DoorDash. Redwood Pie makes great pizza. Food: I have ordered the Margherita (tomato sauce, basil, and mozzarella, the Classic Pepp (red sauce, pepperoni, parmesan, and mozzarella), and White Heat (olive oil, garlic, basil, parmesan, mozzarella, and jalapenos). I really enjoyed both the Margherita and Classic Pepp. Barely any "flop" (bending or drooping down of the tip of the slice when held) even though it was delivery pizza with just the right amount of char on the bottom. The crust was good and the toppings didn't overwhelm. In turn, the White Heat was good, but had a little more flop and the cheese was just a little rubbery, but I attribute this completely to the fact that it was delivery pizza. I think it would have been great in store. Bottom Line: My go-to pizza place. I now just need to stop being lazy and get my pizza in person. read more

I love this place. I love this place so much that I make the trek down the coast regularly just to eat this delicious pizza. My favorite is the spicy sausage. They have a generous amount of Calabrian chillies and it just hits the right flavors and gives the pizza a great kick. The pizza is thin crust but the toppings don't all fall off like at other places. The pizza isn't super greasy either. You can tell it's made with quality ingredients. Every single person I've showed this spot to immediately falls in love. Service is quick, they always have your pie out of the oven in around 15 minutes. Pricing is great as well. A personal is around $18 and a large is around $23. On my most recent visit, I split the large with my friend and we were adequately full afterwards. I never hesitate to eat here when I'm in the area. If you don't live in the area, like myself, I highly recommend making the trek here to treat yourself to their amazing pies. That one with sausage and chiles is amazing. We got an overdose of pepperoni toppings (one was pepperoni and sausage, and the other is e-money) and they were a bit greasy for me. A few days ago, I found this new pizza place on Yelp. The pizzas looked so good I knew we should come give them a try. Today, hubby & I came for the pizza. They offer a 12" & 16" pie. The menu is limited to pizzas, a salad, and beverages. The signage on the building says Pizzas, Salads, Sandwiches, and Ice Cream. Maybe they'll update the menu soon. We decided to get the 12" Pepperoni & Sausage Pizza. We ordered, paid, and then decided to take a seat outside on the patio. There are about 8 bar height seats available inside. When the pizza was ready, a staff member stuck his head out of the door and called our name and hubby went inside to pick it up. The pizza was super delicious! We truly enjoyed the Pepperoni & Sausage Pizza! I like the little Pepperoni slices they use. The crust is thin, crispy yet chewy. I don't usually eat much of the crust, but I ate most of it! I read on Infatuation.com that they use a Sourdough for the crust. We bring our own Hot Honey and added it to the pizza which made it all the more tasty!! We will definitely be back! We've been having excellent slices in Los Angeles and Long Beach, so it's great to see this in the south bay! The sourdough flavor is pretty light, which is wonderful. The crust was delightful and crispy, the pepperoni cuppy and delicious greasy, the jalapeno had a serious kick. The single salad on the menu at the moment is fantastic and refreshing. However, this lived up to the hype and won me over-- a chewy/crunchy, thin sourdough crust cooked just right, with top of the line pepperoni well distributed throughout the pie, mixed beautifully with the marvelous melty cheese and tomato sauce. Not too many choices, not so many ingredients so the focus is on quality. I'm a monster who's never loved pepperoni, but their Classic Pepp is one of few where I can understand the appeal. I prefer the Soppressata - love those long floppy slices of salami. The white pizzas are a mild contrast to the reds, a swipe of fresh olive oil to highlight the toppings and cheese. The Bianca is green and creamy with ricotta, and the D-Fresh is hothothot with spicy sausage, pungent garlic, and pickled serranos. THIS is what pizza should be. Seemingly understated, straightforward, carefully curated. Not too many toppings, very little noise to distract from a very memorable, totally unforgettable, and utterly addictive pie. read more
