I was riding down the coast on a Saturday when my generator light came on somewhere between Gold Beach and Brookings. I pulled the fuses for everything but the ignition and managed to run on the battery down to Redwood. I told them it was the voltage regulator, and I was right. They had one in stock and did the R&R that afternoon on a busy summer day. Much appreciated. I was on my way south when I realized I didn't have my tent and bedding with me. They'd taken it off for the repair and left it on the shop floor, and I was so eager to get out of there after a 2.5 hour wait that I didn't check. They were closed when I called, but fortunately the lady answered the phone and agreed to wait until I came back through town to pick my stuff up. Close call!
Here it is years later and I cracked the front header pipe on my Vrod southbound on 101. Shane and the guys fixed it with welding rod and got me back on the road in two hours. Redwood's under new management but they still help a guy out. One week later I'm headed for the barn and the voltage regulator pukes (different bike from the first time but still the same fragile H-D electrical components-when did you last have this failure on a car?). Well, it being a Vrod they don't stock the regulator or the stator. The stator needed replacing because the plug from it to the regulator failed and H-D in their infinite wisdom don't supply the plug without the rest of the stator. However, I prevailed in getting them to use a Dyna regulator (same regulator with a different bolt and plug pattern) and splice in a plug from a failed stator on the junk pile. Once again they ate the best part of an afternoon but got me on the road the same day (Saturday). I have to say this is outstanding service for which the were generously compensated. Thanks Shane! read more
