    Concert on the Green

I have been golfing at this local course for several years and this is the best I've seen it look and play. After a long irrigation upgrade and some TLC maintenance the fairways are green and lush, minus a few spots still transitioning. The greens are also looking better and less brown patches then in previous years. The price to play is also very reasonable ranging from $28 -$48 depending on day/time. They also offer lessons, tournaments and non-golf activities, like concerts on the grass and host a wedding venue and restaurant. Overall this hidden gem golf course is really looking up and I hope it continues.

This is a beautiful golf course. Got a deal online for 18 holes for $55 (for 2 people with a cart included). The service was amazing and they were all very kind. Course was clean. We got held up a bit by the people in front of us, but it seemed like everyone was a bit held up. Back 9 hot dog was delicious. I will definitely be golfing here again.

This has been our home course and we've been coming to this place for almost 3 years now. We've been a Canyon member ever since and enjoyed this course. We played 18 holes today and even though the weather was gloomy and cloudy, we finished 18 holes without any rain. The pace of play was decent and we're not falling behind the group in front of us. There's a group behind us and this one guy was hitting his drive pretty far. On a par 4, when we're about to walk off the green, his ball landed a few around us. When he reached the green, he approached us and was apologetic. On some tee boxes, they're repairing or replacing the brown grass and preparing for the winter months. For a high handicapper, you'll enjoy this course. It has all the elements to practice both your driver and iron shots. Just be careful not to get your ball off the fairway, the grass is thick and will be hard to reach the greens in two. I always enjoy playing here and the staff are very friendly and courteous.

This course is the perfect place to get good. The narrow fairways and small greens force you to focus on your accuracy. I've met some pretty cool golfers here. Even the Bill, Tom, Dick, and Harry are down to earth! Can you believe that?! I'm unsure why there are so many negative comments about customer service. LMAO. Yes, the guy is a bit of a Bill Mahr type, but you only have to talk to him for 5 minutes. I go there to play golf and mind my own business. So many sensitive people out there. Lol. If you want someone to pat you on the butt before you three-putt, go to Half Moon Bay, Karen! Don't come here if you're a sensitive golf snob

I reviewed this spot over a decade ago but it was called Willow Park then. I'm assuming new owners thus new name/image. To their credit the place does show some improvements but more on the building/amenities than the actual course. Actually the course layout is exactly how I remembered it, but a nice upgrade in greens keeping. The course is in a valley inside a canyon setting. So fairly flat but you're completely surrounded by hills which make it very scenic. Every fairway is tree-lined which is pretty but also quite challenging. A small creek runs on the right side for much of the course, so you have to know how your shot works, either wise you'll run into that creek often, or knocking it around the trees that guard the fairway. Quick rating: Tee Boxes: (3.5*) Level and large. Even though chewed up, there's lots of room to choose where to tee it up. Fairways: (3.5*) Most are nice. But also many spots where it is dead grass or worse just bare dirt. It's a cheaper public course, so this is actually more on par (pun intended) than not. Heavily tree lined so bonus if you hit these fairways and penalizing if you don't. Simple enough. Greens (4.5*) Really good shape. Consistent and fairly quick rolls. Pay attention to downhill putts, you many end up off the green again. No super large greens either that you'll see in links style golf. This is American tree lined golf. The prices are super reasonable for 18 holes. We like to play in the late afternoons aka Twighlight for about $40 with a cart. Traffic is thicker on the weekends, so don't expect a fast round then. I guess my only real knock is very poor yardage markers. Not even color coded poles. You actually have to look on the ground for the 200/150/100 yard markers, which is not efficient. I'm just going to get a range finder, since getting back into golf this year, most courses seem to be going away from traditional markers. Still haven't tried any significant food or sat in their bar/restaurant area, except for that quick hot dog which was suffice. But looking forward in hanging out more as this seems to be where we will be choosing to play most of our 18 hole sessions, since Sunol and Skywest are no longer around. Boooo.

A really nice track in the east bay hills. Challenging but fair. A shot makers course. A rolling picturesque course nestled in a canyon lacking the usual homes that seem to look down in every course these days. A Saturday tee time was running 8 minutes behind. The staff was a bit stressed and trying mightily to keep play at pace. The practice facility is just okay with all shots fired into a pond. At least the balls come out clean. I'd definitely play it again.

Castro Valley hosts this mini golf spot that's an affiliate of the Golfland family and features its two 18-hole ranges perfect for beginners and experts alike. After a few rounds on the green, consider venturing into their arcades to play some good old fashioned video games (Time Crisis and other dual player shooters, Mario Kart and other racing games, and fighting games) and skill games (like skee ball, table air hockey, and claw machines). Be wary, however, for those who have game cards from other Golflands, they're location specific so they won't work here unless you have one from this spot. Starting from the giant parking lot which is just off of a busy street, you'll make your way through the gates and stroll up the long walkway to the front desk where you'll register to get your clubs and balls (you'll get your choice from among a few colors). From there, you'll have your pick of the two courses, one for novices and one for the more adventurous. Make your way through the obstacles and mark your scorecard to determine the winner of bragging rights! We came for a birthday party and logistically, they have the main room amongst the beginner course which is well lit from all the open windows but I believe they have another space near the arcade for those looking for a more enclosed, private gathering. Once the guests arrived, they hosted an orientation and got the members all equipped and ready to go. The youngsters had a lot of fun and can't wait to return! The staff were all very friendly and helpful. You'll interact with them more at the arcades especially if you'll be redeeming prizes with your hard-earned digital tickets. The ticket values on the top tier prizes were pretty large but for frequent visitors or lucky winners, you can get some pretty neat stuff here. The mini prizes definitely reminded me of my times at the arcades when I was a kid, very nostalgic! Overall, Golden Tee Golfland is a well-maintained, family friendly environment conducive to an awesome time outdoors as well as an exhilarating experience soaking up the old school arcade vibe. We accumulated a ton of steps during our visit here and the kids could not stop hitting the greens to get their fluorescently colored balls into the holes. The obstacles are fun - there are water effects and moving doors and bridges. While most of them functioned as expected, there were a few hiccups with some like balls getting stuck or certain doors just not functioning as expected. For wetter seasons, the holes for the balls do end up pooling which makes picking the balls out a bit of an unpleasant endeavor. For being exposed to the outdoors, the place was in pretty good shape, however. It's a bummer that the Golflands don't have a unified system for the game cards as it just incentivizes families to just pick one and stick with it instead of venturing out and exploring the other amazing locations like this one. If you're a local, this is a great place to take a date or the family - it'll tee you up for a good time!

The road to the golf course is beautiful with trees on both sides. I always walk with my golf cart, but booking online it only had the option with cart. I was glad that they forced us to pay for the golf cart, BTW, when you book online the night before, you have to pay for the tee time non refundable with a credit card. If you want to walk which is a little difficult and slow due to many hilly fairways, you must call the pro shop to book. I didn't see anyone walking on last Friday. There are 2 courses on this establishment, there's one 9 holes and one 18 holes. The check-in pro shop is across from the cart return area, hard to see, a small house, may be it's still in renovation? The driving range is right next to it. BTW, it's a little difficult to find a parking spot close to the pro shop, the best is to park, then check in to get a cart and go to the car to get the clubs. Anyhow, the first hole is right there at the golf carts. I could see the hill already. It's beautiful. The fairways are very well kept, plenty of grass but many bushes on the sides, easy to lose balls if they went in there. Many fairways are quite narrow, and a few that have flags up in the hills to guide people for teeing off due to blind fairways. The greens were just aerated a few weeks, still very thick and spotty but puttable. Many greens are quite small although some are big. I like number 9 par 3 on the top hitting to the bottom of the hill, beautiful but quite challenging. The 18 hole is amazing, par 6 and so vast, long, hilly, and beautiful. Love this hole. Most of the holes have wonderful views of the valleys, canyons, I love the scenery. Ah, at the end of the 11th hole, the BBQ grills smelled so good that I had to order the Cheese Burger and believe it or not it's the best $13 cheese burger anywhere at any price. The young lady did it so well, so perfect and I even had a bag of chips to go with it. She deserved a great tip. The prices on weekdays are quite reasonable, for Senior like me, only $43 including cart which is inexpensive. Yes, I'll come back here again and shoot a better score than the first one due to not being familiar with the golf course.

Despite that, I can have fun playing, especially when I have plenty of spare balls and the course is a par 3. I think I probably found as many balls as I lost, so that was an added bonus. You can usually see some wildlife on the course. There is a nice little putting green to get warmed up before you play or to try and relive some of the missed puts from the round you just finished. It is inexpensive, public and usually not overly crowded.

But in my first 5-7 years on taking up the game (95'-02'ish), we played here often, as this is a great course to learn on for several reasons. 1) It is only 9 holes, so you don't have to commit to a long 5-hour round on a big course. And when one is a beginner, 18 holes can be grueling. 2) The course is wide open, lots of room to err, without much penalty areas. Now there are areas you have to watch out for, but still much more generous than most other courses. 3) Lots of other not-so-good golfers here. So even if you suck, you won't really be holding up snooty better golfers, who will often press your pace. So be prepared for a slower round here, can't be in hurry here. 4) Cheaper green fees. Currently in 2026 it was $20 to walk on a weekday morning. Not sure what it is on weekends. It doesn't get any cheaper to play, especially out here in the Bay Area. Now for better players, this is still not a bad place to practice and hone your short game. I took my regular Monday crew here, as 1 of them had never been, and the other golf mate hadn't been in a long time, just like me. And we had a great time. For a 9 holer, there are 3 short par 4s. The rest are par 3s and they are really not that easy. Some of them are longer like 170+ yards, and almost all the greens are bowled/raised so it looks like a turtles hump. So a little tougher on getting your ball to stick to your target. You'll be doing a lot of chipping and pitching, which is all great practice for your short game. This course is in the middle of horse racetrack, at the Alameda Co. Fairgrounds. Great way to make use of otherwise dead space. Now when the fair is going on during the summer, I'm sure this course will close down. But the rest of the year, it is open. There is also a driving range/practice facility. But haven't used those yet. Locals seem to use it. And since it is inside the racetrack, in order to get inside, you'll have to drive under a one way tunnel. Which used to be scary back in the day, as you had to honk to warn the other direction that you were going through. Now there is a traffic light that directs traffic, which eliminates guessing and having to back up inside a tunnel. A nice course that has stood the test of time and is still serving a very specific purpose...to teach and prep newer golfers by providing a relaxed and beginner friendly environment. To that I gotta give props.
